It was a very good fight on both sides but it seem a little crazy to me to give the nod to Ward. He was very effective when he was throwing indeed, but Gatti landed a lot more shots throughout the fight, in fact I gave Ward only the nine round, 7 for Gatti and 2 rounds even. 97-93. Anyway the grit of Ward was admirable.
What these guys lacked in boxing ability they made up for in Heart and grit. In my mind these are just as valuable if not more valueable than pure boxing skill. To quote Jim Lampley. "Real fighters love this, they love this kind of competition". I have far more respect for these two than I do for a woman beating, arogant piece of shit like Mayweather even if he did kick Gatti's arse.

It's going to take one hell of a fight to top this Gatti-Ward bout though. Arce-Vazquez Jr. from the Pacquiao-Mosley card ranks up there with this fight, but only some of the classics--Ali and Frazier, Hagler and Hearns, pretty much and Sugar Ray Robinson performance--could land a punch harder than this bout.

I don't think Ortiz will land many punches on Floyd. Andre Berto fought dumb and Ortiz didn't look good at all against Devon Alexander. Floyd's much better.

In fact, I think Alexander drops him in their draw, which tells me he should have got the decision. The draw was a gift to Ortiz. Its really sad that he did, cause they threw very few punches in the fight. The Maidana fight and the Alexander fight are why people question his chin and heart. At least he showed up against Berto.

Like I said a boring fight, and the draw seemed more like a gift to Ortiz than a fair decision. I'm not too impressed with him.

You can dislike Mayweather as a person, and not like the way he fights, but the discipline, work, and dedication Mayweather puts into his training and his fights is the equal of any boxer. Mayweather is a master boxer, a true expression of hit and don't get hit.
To deny Mayweather the proper respect for his talent and skill is to deny the science in the "sweet science"
floyd jr. falls short in comparison to these guys. This is what people pay to see. They want to see a display of warriors' heart, grit, courage and determination. This is what fight fans want, a fight.
This is the reason why floyd jr. will not earn much respect as a fighter, these gentlemen are fighters, warriors to the highest level. when measured against these guys, he will be found wanting.

I don't believe this decision... Gatti won this fight. He controlled the entire fight except 2 rounds. It's like they gave Ward the decision because they could only remember those two rounds. It was a really great fight but I think Gatti was cheated out of a win.

What can you say? Talk about digging deep. Some fights get embellished with time, made to be better than they actually were. This fight is the opposite. Evey time I go back and watch it, I realise that I forgot how thrilling it was. Not just breathtaking back and forth action, but a higher level of skill than these two get credit for. They should have been co-Sportsmen of the Year. I had it 94-94 but it's hard to argue with the close MD 10 for Ward. Bravo.

I had it 115-113 Ward but what an incredible fight. Havent seen anything like it before or since. I just dont understand why the other 2 fights were only 10 rounds long. They should have given one of them like a WBC interim vacant fedalatin intercontinental europa title just so they could have been 12 round fights.
I have heard and read about this fight, and this the first time that I have ever seen it, and I have never seen such an exciting an utterly thrilling fight as this as long as I can remember. Two great warriors who absolutely threw everything they could at each other and absorbed everything that they took from each other.

One of the greatest fights of all time. Ward won because he hurt and knocked down Gatti even though Gatti controlled the fight. That's the way judges usually call bouts. Unless the knocked down fighter just comes back and completely dominates.
im sorry but if anyone was going to get a decision, it should have been gatti, the fight should have been a draw, but i give an edge to gatti. yea he never really hurt ward, but when he boxed, he controlled the fight, and when he stood and brawled, he landed a bunch of POWER shots, ward clearly fought better on the inside, but not as convincingly as gatti out boxed him on the outside. I have heard and read about this fight, and this the first time that I have ever seen it, and I have never seen such an exciting an utterly thrilling fight as this as long as I can remember. Two great warriors who absolutely threw everything they could at each other and absorbed everything that they took from each other.
My respect goes out to both Micky Ward and to the late Arturo Gatti. Thank you for giving us such wonderful memories.

Wow. Still gives me chills, having initially seen this fight as a 15yr old.
These fighters epitomise the word, "courage." Both of them took a royal beating, but just kept coming and coming.
I would challenge anyone to find a UFC fight 1% as entertaining as this.

One of the greatest fights of all time. Ward won because he hurt and knocked down Gatti even though Gatti controlled the fight. That's the way judges usually call bouts. Unless the knocked down fighter just comes back and completely dominates.

im sorry but if anyone was going to get a decision, it should have been gatti, the fight should have been a draw, but i give an edge to gatti. yea he never really hurt ward, but when he boxed, he controlled the fight, and when he stood and brawled, he landed a bunch of POWER shots, ward clearly fought better on the inside, but not as convincingly as gatti out boxed him on the outside. Edge - Gatti.

from my count it was a draw. the main reason why someone would consider Ward the winner would be because of the down he got on Gatti and the deducted point. i had Gatti winning the last round.
still amazing fight. Round9 was beautiful. lots of guts and preserverence from both of them.

Nah. Punch volume aint everything. Ward hit harder and controlled the ring from round 3. Draw IMO.
