  • I'm used to four timpani. Ha.

  • I will buy this and play this at metal band, haha

  • at school doing a project:p

  • I watched this several times, and the audio isn't synch'd with visual.... maddening.

  • This deserves a shot from above, too.

  • :S

  • The sound and video aren't synched.

  • I want to play on those!! :D

  • I need to get the higher ones on a set of marching tenor timpani...

  • he looks silly.

  • sounds a bit like Bozzio

  • looks like terry bozzio set up for timpani's also

  • OMG that's a monster!

    like nicko mc brain haha

  • @hybridassassin1991 Nicko McBrain is the best drummer in he world PERIOD.

  • pretty good! I like it

  • Like being in a giant steel pan...

  • Man u can't really make abunch of timpani sound that cool

  • Thank you, it is part of the grow of the instrument, I hope I did something helpful, hope you enjoy my related tenor timpani project too.

  • its kinda funny that a song called octopus calls for 15 instead of 8

    hahha....ok i'll stop.

  • thank you for the comment, great try. actually the composer suggested the timpanist hands try to swing like an octopus.

  • Great playing! Who made the drums?

    Leon.

  • Thank you. Walter Light from American Drums made the drums.

  • I worked with this dude at my school last year, he can play some good mallet stuff too.

  • Thanks for the comment, what is your real identity? i hope everyone back in San Francisco is doing right.

And yes, I could make some good timpani mallets!! thanks for the adv. email me someday man.

  • My name's Gene, I studied with Louis in my sophomore year during sectionals at SOTA.

  • i bet those were fun to tune!!

    lol

  • Tuning tenor timpani requires more details attention. Same as conventional timpani, there are tuning rods on the drum (much shorter) There are 3 sizes of the drum, but there are nine different pitches, so each adjustment is a fine tuning. Thank you!

  • something about this really reminds me of west side story

  • when ever i play yarn mallets on a tom from a drum set i feel the same.

  • really which part?

  • in part its the highly charged sound in the music, and also its the parts where the music gets a little faster, like around 21 seconds

  • @oztimpanist the start :O

  • @oztimpanist I think he means the underscore music right after the fighting where Tony kills Bernardo. They all fly from the police and you hear some sirens in the background

  • @happyfetusday Me too. I think the part where the rival gangs are meeting over the fence. I haven't seen the movie in a while so I might be totally wrong.

  • @happyfetusday I think you mean the underscore music right after the fighting where Tony kills Bernardo. They all fly from the police and you hear some sirens in the background

  • feel claustrophobic? theres like no entry or exit to that set up.

  • Yes, there is if you're Superman.

  • XD

    thats good

    there actually is tho

u can kinda see it behind him

  • beautiful, the piece and the pieces :P

  • umm question are the top timps crank timps or how do u change the top timps pitches

  • the top drums have fixed picthes, thanks

  • Im playing Timpanis too. I want to have such a construction of timpanis too XD

  • if you are interested, i encourage you to contact American Drums Company. thanks

  • hi !

    thanks for the vidéo !

i wonder when you learned this piece, where was posted your music stand for the musical score ??? ^^ that's sound great :)

    cheers

  • thank you

    last year's march

    it was memorized

  • I think he's asking more as to where you put the stand during practice...

  • that is freaking crazy

  • I hate that electronic media really messes with the sound of the instruments. Watching it online kills the tone of the timpani all together. I wish I could see more of this performance - live!

  • Wow. That takes major chops. The only down side (from my point of view), is lack of dynamic contrast. But, I only saw 44 seconds worth of it. =]

  • dude

  • Wow, I'll tell my director to buy thos timpanis :P

  • thats kinda whats they have pedals for

  • that's one crazy setup - where did you find those 'extended range' timpani?

  • They are David Herbert, Timpanist of SF Symphony's Drums.

    Thank you
