Let me preface this by saying that I love both this version and the original, so this is no "This or that is better" comment. What I love about Bourne's version is that the swans seem like real swans rather than fairy tale swans. There is something threatening, fierce and proud about them, fluid yet abrupt, which real swans have, too. Not evil, but dangerous. The impassive glittering you see in a swan's eye as it floats toward you on the water, I see that in the dancing. That's pretty amazing.
Absolutely beautiful. Absolutely beautiful in every way. I really have no words to describe how I feel about this amazing dance and that amazing dancer!
I'm straight, but I've heard this referred to so often I thought I'd take a look, I don't understand how anyone can compare the quality of this dancing or music with something like 18-Swan Lake. It's men dancing as swans, maybe it's a first, but that's all it is.
emergency! does anyone know the name of this piece (the music?) im doing this solo for A level performance studies but cant find this music anywhere...PLEASE HELP
I am hopelessly addicted to Tschaikovsky ballet scores. If Swan Lake were choreographed for trees dancing in a forest, I would be among the first to buy tickets. I attended a performance of Matthew Bourne's rendition of this magnificent ballet and loved it; so did the audience (roaring ovations and countless curtain calls); so did the critics. I was so impressed, in fact, that I purchased a video recording of it.
@0nceUpnATime It's been a while since I signed onto YouTube, so I just saw your response to my comment about having a video recording of Matthew Bourne's version of Swan Lake. Perhaps you've located it by now, but if not, try Amazon.com or Google Matthew Bourne Swan Lake video -- whatever it takes. Just get it. I have a new addiction now -- the movie Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman. My favorite part of the film is when she makes her premier entrance onstage as the black swan, Odile. Wow!
Wow, so he played Billy Elliot who played the swan in that movie?
Oooh, I love Billy Elliot, I wish the movie had shown Billy's dance longer. But now, I think I'm just gonna consider that the swan here is THAT Billy Elliot, not Adam Cooper. Haha!
Ps: Adam Cooper looked cute as adult Billy, is he real cutey in the real live?
I saw Bourne's swan for the first time when I was 13, and I hated it cuz it's so different from the ballerina image I aspired. But earlier this year I attended the performance again and I was absolutely stunned. One of the best ballet ever.
the one i saw was alan vincent too.... he looked a bit tired and a bit of wobbly legs issue.... he is still great.... but i think ADam is prolly better...he is a bit leaner too!
