  • This is not illegal, you are confusing it with the fumblerooski, where the ball is actually bounced off the ground by the center, this is an illegal snap now. This version called the puntrooski is still used today. The Carolina Panthers just ran it for a touchdown on Sunday

  • Epic WIN

  • GENIUS!!

  • #56(the one who chased him all the way down, was the first to notice it. But not quite quick enough :p This 1988 team lost their first 31-0 against Miami and then won every single game after.

  • The puntrooskie is illegal now. That is the reason they do not do it anymore or why no other team does it. It was not illegal when they did it. But it is illegal now.

  • @CDParmele1 why is it illegal? if it is snapped to a rb it should be okay

  • @REIDTV Because when it is snapped to the guy in the back he clearly walks up to the guy in front of him and hands the ball to him thru his legs,.. It is considered an illegal forward lateral. He is not passing it to him. He clearly walks up to him and hands the ball forward to him which is clearly a forward lateral which is now illegal and therefore backs up my claim as to why it is illegal and you will never in the history of college ball ever see that play again.

  • Clemson was the most dominant team in the ACC in that era, until that play I'll prolly haunt them forever because look at them now they are a mediocre team with a sub .500 record just about every yr.

  • THE 80's, THE 80's, doign lotsa coke and votin' for Reagan. hahaha, oh god, gotta love the 80's.

  • When did going inside the 5 become taking it to the house?

  • @bluraychamp I was disappointed at the end after reading the title.

  • @bluraychamp

Dude, it's a fake punt on our own 20.... No coach today would every try this.

  • Bowden at his finest.

  • I remember this play because while Leroy Butler was running up the field the freaking local station (KLST) weather man (Roger Something) cut into the game to announce that there were severe thunderstorms in the area. I was pissed, but he did apologize for interrupting the game. Next thing I know Florida State is inside the Clemson 5 yard line. This was sheer guts, and FSU deserved to win that game.

  • I sure hope they attempt this play this year at least once every game. They sure need it!

  • @davidmelnick hopefully they will not need it...

  • @AMorrell14 I'm sure Clemson will always use this as thier worst nightmare. Let alone, come ready for another one eh. ;)

  • I was there

  • this was before bowden was senile.

  • Back when Bowden had guts.

  • And his wits.

  • He didn't give it to a lineman...

  • I miss these days.

  • i thought you had to fumble it in order to give it to a lineman

  • Why doesn't FSU take chances like this anymore? The way they play now is so boring.

  • If there's no blocking up front on the special teams, this would only work on a 4th and 2 or 3, our guys arent quick enough. We don't have enough athletes to rush it down the field like this enough to be significant.

  • Agreed. Which is why I like college football more....its less serious but now....meh

  • @IAmaPersion

I've been a lifelong fan of your nemesis, UM (since 1984), and I've wondered the same thing for both of our teams. When Bobby Bowden first got to Tallahassee, you could tell he was hungry to win, to put FSU on the map as a legitimate NCAA football power. After winning two NCAA titles, Bowden grew more conservative in his play-calling, which hampered FSU's attitude and mindset on the field. I liked what I saw from Jimbo Fisher last year. Let's see if he can sustain it.

  • @mjabate It wasn't Bowden that got conservative in his play calling. The fall of FSU came when the play calling was up to Jeff Bowden. If you look at the year to year statistics, the offensive output greatly decreased after Mark Richt left for UGA. Bowden had this philosophy later in his career: Hire the best people and let them do their jobs. Unfortunately, he didn't make the best hire with his son.

  • @72BlackonBlack jeff was so out of his depth, it wasn't even funny. and they had to pay him to leave. it just pisses me off to even think about it. and you couldn't tell bobby he had made a mistake. between jeff bowden and chris rix, it amazes me we even won any games with them there.

  • they came back and beat us the next year. and it was on my 18th birthday.

  • if im correct i believe they banned tht play the very next day. lmao.

o well FSU all day im lovin it

  • GO LEROY

  • I am an FSU alumni. This totally kicked ass and must be re-lived! So tired of hearing about "wide right" and "wide left" -- what about this stuff?!

  • GO NOLES!!!!!!!!

  • Is Bowden wearing leather pants in that press conference?

  • it was the 80s

  • My claim to fame....the punter is my cousin Tim Corlew (#17). We always kid him: "The best punt you ever did was the one you never did."

  • haha thats pretty funny

  • he actually ddnt score...

    but Go Noles!!!

  • i love the annochor ! how bout those noles! leroy butler can move

  • hey gene deckerhoff, the voice of the seminoles and the buccs.

  • One of the gutsiest playcalls of all-time. 3 minutes to go in the game, and if Clemson stops us there they win it.

  • Tom Osborne ran that play against Missouri in 78 I am thinking. Didn't the NCAA outlaw plays like those?

  • fake punts?

    Do you even watch football?

  • Not fake punts, I am talking about plays like this... puntarooskie, fumblerooskie etc. and yes I watch football esp college football all the time.

  • The fumblerooskie was banned because it exploited the fumble rule to use linemen as ball carriers. As far as I know, the puntrooskie is still legal.

  • The puntrooskie is just a snap to the upman

  • No, it was a snap to the farthest-back of the upmen, who then handed off the ball to the guy in front of him, BETWEEN THAT GUY'S LEGS.

  • Well I was just saying it like that because it doesn't do anything illegal so it wouldn't be illegal

  • Greatest play call ever, total guts to call that.

Also, Butler was better off getting tackled and NOT scoring because FSU was able to run out most of the clock. Had he scored on the puntrooskie, Clemson still has plenty of time to come back and tie.

  • The Butler did it!

  • Not a Beano Cook fan, but the best thing he ever said was "This Is The Greatest Play Since MY FAIR LADY!!"

  • But revenge is sweet. Tommy Bowden, your son has beaten you on a regular basis at Clemson.

  • FSU is much, much >>>>> than Clemson.

You guys cant even win the ACC...

  • Well neither can you nowadays... lol

  • Maybe because LSU plays in the SEC, dumbass.

  • Ha Ha Ldog12395 got owned!

  • lol that was funny FSU owns

  • @LSUcHamp606

and how many ACC championships does FSU have again?

  • @xSUPERFUZZx They won 9 consecutive ACC titles in that 14 years of 10 wins or better period... the latest came in 2005...

  • @AMorrell14 Streaks are nice, but call me when you reach 13.

  • @xSUPERFUZZx 13 what? how about i give you a number, 14. Thats consecutive years inside top 5 in rankings.

  • @xSUPERFUZZx

FSU has 12 ACC titles... despite only being a conference member for 18yrs.

  • True, but we can beat you!!

  • Who can't love coach bobby
