Everyone needs to stop bitching about tax. The more tax you pay, the more civil benefits you enjoy. When the wealthiest one percent were taxed at a high rate the country was much better off. Yes, Taxes should be lowered for small business because they drive our economy and job market. However, people seem to think that lowering taxes to almost nothing won't have any negative effect on society. Mind blowing!

Only big businesses pay taxes directly to the government, and let me tell you, we get no social benefit.The public schools there are horrible. I had to go to private schools that cost quarter of average upper middle class earning. I am glad that U.S. makes good use of the tax dollars. I would be even happier to have a good health benefit through the tax we pay. But, that seems like it's gonna take light years.

What sucks is... Obama did alot of double talking on his State Of The Union address on cutting the trillion dollar deficit. First, he wants to cut spending. Then, he wants funding for college grads. If he's successful on creating jobs within the next 2 years, I would love to see him and the Democrats back in control of Congress in 2012.

Paying your taxes so you can reap the rewards that the goverment use with the money they get from your taxes. What the goverment decide to spend those taxes on depends on who you wote for congress and who you wote for president.

From a doctor's perspective it means that the government dictates where the doctor can live and work. For the patients, the threat can be doctor strikes. But there are about 10-18 % of the 46% uninsured in the US who simply don't want insurance. These are mostly young people who simply don't care about their future health yet.

@eric5335 The nationalization of all medical institutions was never, is never, and will never be part of the proposed healthcare system. In countries with real national healthcare systems, like Canada, UK, France etc, there is still a private sector in the healthcare industry, which you can opt for if you can afford it. Hence, competition remains, and consumers still get the healthcare they want, just that no-one is left who can't get healthcare. Everybody wins :)

Here in Denmark there are on average 3 nurses for 46 patients. Also, the quality is now so bad, that you will have to buy another private insurance, to have everything covered. I think that we shouldn't blame any one person for the situation now, but I do believe it is fair to assign some blame too bush. It's naive to think that Obama could turn around the situation we were in completely, even if he were the best president ever. Where we are now is culmination of decades of bad policy. We need to be realistic about what caused this if we are ever to find the solution, otherwise we'll really be in a bad place.

Also even though I'm for drill I think we need more nuclear plants. According to Modern Marvels 103 nuclear plants give the U.S 20% of its electricity. Think about it 515 nuclear plants could supply us with all the electricity needs.
@ryancicocki I know this late, but you clearly don't understand energy policy well. Nuclear plants have nothing to do with how much oil we use. Nuclear plants produce electricity, so although they would lower our usage of natural gas and coal, they would do nothing to reduce use of oil (which as you know is used to, among other things, create gasoline). But to Shawn's earlier point, we don't have oil resources in the US (prospective, strategic or otherwise) to last any more than 25 years.

Yes, Taxes should be lowered for small business because they drive our economy and job market. Only big businesses pay taxes directly to the government, and let me tell you, we get no social benefit.The public schools there are horrible. I had to go to private schools that cost quarter of average upper middle class earning. I am glad that U.S. makes good use of the tax dollars. I would be even happier to have a good health benefit through the tax we pay. But, that seems like it's gonna take light years.

What sucks is... Obama did alot of double talking on his State Of The Union address on cutting the trillion dollar deficit. First, he wants to cut spending. Then, he wants funding for college grads. He needs to end the bailouts, that's probably the only thing I agree with the Republicans on since they have control of at least the House for Congress. If he's successful on creating jobs within the next 2 years, I would love to see him and the Democrats back in control of Congress in 2012.

From a doctor's perspective it means that the government dictates where the doctor can live and work. For the patients, the threat can be doctor strikes. In countries with real national healthcare systems, like Canada, UK, France etc, there is still a private sector in the healthcare industry, which you can opt for if you can afford it. Hence, competition remains, and consumers still get the healthcare they want, just that no-one is left who can't get healthcare. Everybody wins :)

@Jordan8789 Thats how a socialist economy works. In a free market economy like ours we let business fail and prosper by there own leadership and business practices. GM failed, it sucks that people would lose there jobs but what makes you think a company like that will do better under the unions and federal government. The government does a decent job running our military but never have they done anything profitable. GM will fail it will just cost the tax payers this time.

An unsuccessful war, poor welfare programs, and a terrible health care system which leads to the #1 cause of personal bankruptcy as people cannot afford health care. So much for equality for all, if everyone would give a little the world we be so much better. Think about it, no homeless due to welfare means decreased crime rate.

@ryancicocki I never said I was for a pure socialist/communist government. I am in favour of socializing healthcare. Canada has it and is not socialist, we have people making various amounts of money so no free healthcare does not = socialism. I agree socialism will not work but maybe in a time when they economy is better they can try healthcare. I am done debating on this issue.

Obama might not be fixing the problem directly and suddenly, but he has made some things better at least, unlike Bush. However, we are in an path of endless debt and turmoil and no matter what is done, everything will get worse.

I think that we shouldn't blame any one person for the situation now, but I do believe it is fair to assign some blame too bush. It's naive to think that Obama could turn around the situation we were in completely, even if he were the best president ever. Where we are now is culmination of decades of bad policy. We need to be realistic about what caused this if we are ever to find the solution, otherwise we'll really be in a bad place.

What specific policies do you think lower gas prices?
Also, I'm really surprised that your saying we have high gas prices, because in comparison to other countries our gas prices are much lower. If anything, we should be glad they're getting higher.

134 / 7.665 = 17.48 *This means there is only enough for roughly 17.5 years (this is 182.5 years less than your statement)

You're right, on some matters wikipedia is not a reliable source. However, on matters such as this, facts are often cross-checked, and – if you even bothered to find the figures I was using- you would see that they are supported with references to more “reputable” sources.
I would be willing to bet that wikipedia’s information is more “on target” than yours, especially as the figure you’re using is 10x larger, and a gross exaggeration.

@shawnw585 Did you factor in the oil off shore of Alaska, California, and Florida. Or the areas restricted by national parks and such. Also even though I'm for drill I think we need more nuclear plants. According to Modern Marvels 103 nuclear plants give the U.S 20% of its electricity. Think about it 515 nuclear plants could supply us with all the electricity needs.

@ryancicocki I know this late, but you clearly don't understand energy policy well. Nuclear plants have nothing to do with how much oil we use. Nuclear plants produce electricity, so although they would lower our usage of natural gas and coal, they would do nothing to reduce use of oil (which as you know is used to, among other things, create gasoline). But to Shawn's earlier point, we don't have oil resources in the US (prospective, strategic or otherwise) to last any more than 25 years.
