Yet these folks go to work with other races. Part of the reasons gays separate themselves is to increase their odds of meeting other gays and associate with folks they have more common with. I served from '02-'07 with several deployments made and know for a fact that the men and women are by FAR opposed to repealing this act, enlisted as well as commisioned officers!

The US Congress should sit up and take notice of the Australian Military who got rid of the notion of discrimination against gay and lesbian military members in 1991. There are plenty of gay and lesbian openly gay men and women now serving on the front line in Afghanistan right now and it has no impact on the quality of the fighting force. Yet these folks go to work with other races. Part of the reasons gays separate themselves is to increase their odds of meeting other gays and associate with folks they have more common with. It has nothing to do with avoiding straight people. At less than 20% of the population, that would be impossible.

Powell is so wrong. I talk with troops everyday and they are AGAINST repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell by a factor of 55 percent. but the Liberal Media keeps distorting that message. They keep reporting that supposedly 70 percent want it repealed. But actual service members in the military Don't want it to End.

I saw the report from the DOD study in regards to Army Combat troops/units that 48% say repealing DADT will have a negative or very negative effect. Remember, these are the soldiers that are the front line on the war on terror. When there is a greater than 75% approval in Army/Marine combat troops then would be the time to remove that policy.

And if they threaten to resign their commissions, then these people have demonstrated that they are willing to defend America, but not other Americans., showing, that they never were patriotic to begin with.

Idiots don't understand that DADT is actually instituted to PROTECT homosexuals in the military. Protect them from persecution and humiliation that would come daily and often, you take that away and they have no safety net, its open season on them! I served from '02-'07 with several deployments made and know for a fact that the men and women are by FAR opposed to repealing this act, enlisted as well as commisioned officers!

The US Congress should sit up and take notice of the Australian Military who got rid of the notion of discrimination against gay and lesbian military members in 1991. There are plenty of gay and lesbian openly gay men and women now serving on the front line in Afghanistan right now and it has no impact on the quality of the fighting force. Letting openly gay people serve would be no different then making men and women shower, and live in the same barracks together. How comfortable would you feel if there was a girl on your football team (you arent attracted to her) who showers and changes in the same locker room that you do? There is absolutely no difference. Also i dont think people realize the level of harassment that would come. Whats worse, holding in the fact that they are gay or being constantly harassed by soldiers
