I would have totally been pegged for the ADD drugs when I was in school, luckily I was in school in the late 80's and early 90's so I escaped the Big Pharma grasp, and graduated from college without a hitch. I did discover that marijuana helped immensely with my symptoms, but they will never legalize it because it would crush their bottom line.
My son is 5 & just started kindergarten, his school held an "intervention" because he cries in class, doesn't run like other kids, doesn't play w/ other kids on the playground a lot & other nitpicking things, I know they're on this track of eventually wanting to medicate him, I'll pull him out of school & homeschool him before that EVER happens, sadly I have to make a decision before it goes too far.

I suppose my parents were the last to lose hope,, but in the end they were pretty close. I am now finishing a AP degree, that was suppose to be impossible. Hi, I was diagnosed with ADHD soon in my 20ties. I suppose it all started showing up when I was a kid, like 6 or 7. I had some trouble relaxing, and stay put. I probably didn´t finish any homework at all, until age of 15 or so. I also learned to read about that time also. In my early years I was sent back and forth withing the system, I was fyrst sent to a psychiatry age of 9 cause of thought weird behaviour and disturbance. I know it very hard to believe for those dont have to deal with ADHD.
This man is NOT a PhD. ADHD/ADD, Bipolar and schizophrenia are not "different ways of thinking" they are brain disorders. The brain works on chemicals. All organs in the human body can fail or degenerate or even come out of the womb inadequate. If a person has diabetes, we do not begrudge them insulin. If a person has kidney failure we do not begrudge them dialysis. Why is it the brain (and women's breasts) is one organ people seem to think never ever fails or is inadequate to certain tasks?

SOLUTION` If schools are pressuring you to get you child on drugs. Accept their direction, get him the perscription but you don`t have to give it to your child. They want the child on drugs for funding so they don`t care after that. no more pressure and you can stock pile the shit. win win
I just want to say this: the medicine isn't to blame. When a parent, teacher, or doctor doesn't put enough time or follow-up into a child's case, that's when negative effects result. Including drug addiction. There are so many misperceptions about ADHD and ADD. Kids who have it really do have more struggles to face in school, increased chances of having poor self-esteem, etc. If you do your research you'll find that no one grows out of ADHD. It simply takes on a less obvious appearance.

The drug Ritalin changed my sis and it changed our lives, for the better!! Her ADHD ruined our family, but for the 2 weeks they put her on the drug she became a normal human being, my lil sister! They took her back off it and she turned bck into a monster, she was then in and out of foster homes for the rest of her childhood because we couldn't cope with her manic episodes of trying to kill us all. If only they had kept her on the Ritalin it could have saved our family, saved my little sister.

This really hits home for me. My girlfriend was badly abused and traumatized by her father, given severe PTSD. Because of this Trauma she was institutionalized, and given Drugs that Made Her psychotic. She badly abused, pinned to the ground, and injected with drugs like Thorazine just for asking for a glass of water. Sagamore Long Island was the worst, she has flash backs of what they did there, and now that she's off the drugs her only problems are related to bad memories, which she copes with.
My GF has a story of bad child abuse by her father as well. She was treated by one of the best therapists I know, and she fully recovered without a single pill of nothing. Only humanistic psychotherapy, which is not very popular in the US, because of bs like conductism (mouse circus training) or psychyatry (Valium! Next!). Curious, because the founder of humanistic therapy was American.
im 15 and have adhd and without my medicine im hyper and i cant sit in a chair for a minute wihtout tapping something or moving and i cant even hold a normal conversation with someone without being annoying and switching subject and stuff. so many children have adhd and actually need this medicine, but some kids find a way to abuse it

ADHD meds are over-prescribed. I was on ritalin, then dexadrine, then i stopped. I love to drum on things, and I am annoying to many people. But when I am interested in something, i am very focused, and I respect myself the way I am naturally. I think traditional education is just the wrong fit for some kids.
I will take a wild guess that it's the food you are eating. There are chemicals in processed foods that affect the brain. The best thing you can do is remove all boxed, packaged foods from your diet and subsitute it with real food that comes from nature. Fruit is a good start because it tastes the best. You can make banana ice cream just by Blending up frozen bananas with a little water in a blender.
You don't need drugs, hon, you need to get up and go outside and get active like young people are supposed to do. Go out and run, swim, ride a bike, etc. When I was your age we didn't sit around and stare at a computer all day or watch TV. We went outside and had vigorous activity!

My son was in kindergarten (6 yrs. old) when the school demanded I put him on Ritalin. I refused because he was such a good boy at home, and the family doctor said his health was excellent and I was superb at making certain his nutrition was excellent. The school used the "hyper excuse" to have CPS kidnap him from me so they could exploit him. He was imprisoned by the state for TEN YEARS in foster care where he was drugged, abused, and indoctrinated with the gay agenda. CRIMES against humanity!
I never heard of such a thing. My understanding is that it is illegal for a school teacher or school employee who is not a licensed psychiatrist to make a diagnosis. Therefore, they can do nothing for refusing drugging. The steps are a school psychologist to evaluate your child. Mine had that done and they stopped hounding me for ADD. It turned out it was just a processing problem and she is now a straight A student.

An addition: If some psychiatrist would prescribe me drugs, just for the mere fact I have PDD-NOS I would simply refuse it. Some drugs can even have severe side effects and I don't trust psychiatrists who even prescribe drugs to people who don't need them. Forced medication, by the way, is something I am always opposed to. Especially when that happens to children.
Yeah. Even in the Netherlands (my country) it is common. I personally have a mild disorder, called PDD-NOS, somewhat similar to autism and thank God I have no medication. However I personally have known and still know people with for example autism and ADHD who do have been prescribed drugs and for a while already, I have doubts if that really was and is necessary. There are many successes with therapy's which don't involve using drugs and other bizarre treatments.

The problem with treatments by most medications is they just mask symptoms and you will still be hella weird. If you actually treat the causes then you can be normal.
Being a child, is not the illness here. Being a child is fine. It is when being a child and being a healthy, able child are impossible, that ADD and ADHD can be found.

I have a brother who had ADD and he cured his. Uneducated? About what? My brother spent 100's of hours researching his condition and wrote many papers about it. You have no idea what your talking about. ADD medication's street name is kiddy cocaine as chemically it's almost exactly the same thing as cocaine.

I go to high school, and i'd say that about half the students in my school or on some sort of medication for A.D.D. Doctors thought i had A.D.D. when i was six and wanted to put me on ritalin. it turned out that i didn't have A.D.D. and that i was just a daydreamer. it's normal and i outgrew it. i know about seven people who were on that drug and it affected all of them in a negative way. it's so easy to look at a hyperactive kid and decide that they need to be medicated. it's disgusting!

I believe that children are being overly medicated, and in some circumstances, they are being drugged for being children. There are some cases, where one can suffer from a mental illness. I am still unsure as to whether or not to give chidren in any age group meds. I highly believe in CBT therapy however. Great video. Thanks so much.

Ironclawz, there may be some TOVA test but these test are subjective unlike, say a urine test for diabetes. Unlike testing for diabetes, with mental illness (other than demetia) there is no biological evidence that these illnesses exist. If you can find some I'd like to see it.

I told my doctor I would give it 3 weeks because they told me it would take about 2 weeks to notice a difference. 4 days later I got a call from her teacher (who didn't push for her to be put on it) telling me what a huge positive difference there was in my daughter.

She is a vibrant and enthusiatic, happy child who can CONCENTRATE better and is now liking school instead of feeling like "a dummy" or "stupid" as she called herself because she was so behind in her school work due to an unablility to concentrate in school. I want to thank you, and just mention that my decision had nothing to do with anything that her school, or Dr. said to me. Her school was actually reluctant to test her they made me wait a year after I asked for the initial test to actually do it. As for her Dr. He pushed for behaviour modification and counselling more than perscriptions (which I tried for 6 months b4 I tried "the pills") I totally agree some kids are being drugged for others benefit but NOT ALL. I would have totally been pegged for the ADD drugs when I was in school, luckily I was in school in the late 80's and early 90's so I escaped the Big Pharma grasp, and graduated from college without a hitch. I did discover that marijuana helped immensely with my symptoms, but they will never legalize it because it would crush their bottom line.

That the condition can be uncontrollable. Well, I hate to brake it to you. I first got some tranguil with the drugs. They are true blessing for someone like me. I suppose my parents were the last to lose hope,, but in the end they were pretty close. I am now finishing a AP degree, that was suppose to be impossible. Hi, I was diagnosed with ADHD soon in my 20ties. I suppose it all started showing up when I was a kid, like 6 or 7. I had some trouble relaxing, and stay put. I probably didn´t finish any homework at all, until age of 15 or so. I also learned to read about that time also. In my early years I was sent back and forth withing the system, I was fyrst sent to a psychiatry age of 9 cause of thought weird behaviour and disturbance. I know it very hard to believe for those dont have to deal with ADHD.

I just want to say this: the medicine isn't to blame. When a parent, teacher, or doctor doesn't put enough time or follow-up into a child's case, that's when negative effects result. Including drug addiction. There are so many misperceptions about ADHD and ADD. Kids who have it really do have more struggles to face in school, increased chances of having poor self-esteem, etc. If you do your research you'll find that no one grows out of ADHD. It simply takes on a less obvious appearance.

They took her back off it and she turned bck into a monster, she was then in and out of foster homes for the rest of her childhood because we couldn't cope with her manic episodes of trying to kill us all. This really hits home for me. My girlfriend was badly abused and traumatized by her father, given severe PTSD. Because of this Trauma she was institutionalized, and given Drugs that Made Her psychotic. She badly abused, pinned to the ground, and injected with drugs like Thorazine just for asking for a glass of water. Sagamore Long Island was the worst, she has flash backs of what they did there, and now that she's off the drugs her only problems are related to bad memories, which she copes with.

My GF has a story of bad child abuse by her father as well. She was treated by one of the best therapists I know, and she fully recovered without a single pill of nothing. Only humanistic psychotherapy, which is not very popular in the US, because of bs like conductism (mouse circus training) or psychyatry (Valium! Next!). Curious, because the founder of humanistic therapy was American.

ADHD meds are over-prescribed. I was on ritalin, then dexadrine, then i stopped. I love to drum on things, and I am annoying to many people. But when I am interested in something, i am very focused, and I respect myself the way I am naturally. I think traditional education is just the wrong fit for some kids.

I will take a wild guess that it's the food you are eating. There are chemicals in processed foods that affect the brain. The best thing you can do is remove all boxed, packaged foods from your diet and subsitute it with real food that comes from nature. Fruit is a good start because it tastes the best. You can make banana ice cream just by Blending up frozen bananas with a little water in a blender.

I refused because he was such a good boy at home, and the family doctor said his health was excellent and I was superb at making certain his nutrition was excellent. The school used the "hyper excuse" to have CPS kidnap him from me so they could exploit him. I never heard of such a thing. My understanding is that it is illegal for a school teacher or school employee who is not a licensed psychiatrist to make a diagnosis. Therefore, they can do nothing for refusing drugging. The steps are a school psychologist to evaluate your child. Mine had that done and they stopped hounding me for ADD. It turned out it was just a processing problem and she is now a straight A student.

An addition: If some psychiatrist would prescribe me drugs, just for the mere fact I have PDD-NOS I would simply refuse it. Some drugs can even have severe side effects and I don't trust psychiatrists who even prescribe drugs to people who don't need them. Forced medication, by the way, is something I am always opposed to. Especially when that happens to children.

Yeah. Even in the Netherlands (my country) it is common. I personally have a mild disorder, called PDD-NOS, somewhat similar to autism and thank God I have no medication. However I personally have known and still know people with for example autism and ADHD who do have been prescribed drugs and for a while already, I have doubts if that really was and is necessary. There are many successes with therapy's which don't involve using drugs and other bizarre treatments.

This video is wrong on many, many levels, sadly.
Being a child, is not the illness here. Being a child is fine. It is when being a child and being a healthy, able child are impossible, that ADD and ADHD can be found.
I myself struggle with ADHD and I know this to be true of my own free will after running self-tests.
I am just as happy on the drugs I take as off, however, I preform better with them. this is not a horrible thing; it should never be blown out of preportion. Ever.

There are three main reasons why kids have ADHD. If these problems are corrected, I believe most "ADHD" will be corrected as well:
1. Poor diet and/or exercise.
2. Tv as pacifier (or too much technology)
3. Inconsistent/inept parenting

Wrong. ADHD, such as the case I have, is not caused by any of those as it appeared in me at a very early age.
I will agree that, sadly, too many people now are pulling the ADD! card and drugging their kids.... but for people like me, who actualy have it, and KNOW they do (I have even self tested myself and know that I cannot concentrate as well without the addition of pills) it has become a struggle to even maintain we have a problem.
It is WRONG to label ADHD and ADD as simply drugging.

yes...there are people who truly have ADHD, but the problem is that today children are being over diagnosed for it and being drugged so that parents can continue to do a shitty job parenting...and placing the blame on a disorder because it's easier than changing the child's lifestyle into a more positive one (because that means they would have to stop being lazy). That is the problem, not people like you who truly do have ADHD without a false diagnosis

plus, its easy to say you have ADHD by those self tests pretty much everyone puts off doing stuff they don't like, attention span strays, etc. Drugs are a cop out so you don't have to make lifestyle changes...like not eating processed foods all the time and exercising, and not having the tv on while listening to music and playing on the computer with 6 screens open with your xbox on pause...you don't think all of those don't contribute to behavior problems??

Look into natural "cures" for ADD as this problem can be corrected other ways that do not require drugs. ADD medication is almost literally cocaine.

I have a brother who had ADD and he cured his. Uneducated? About what? My brother spent 100's of hours researching his condition and wrote many papers about it. You have no idea what your talking about. ADD medication's street name is kiddy cocaine as chemically it's almost exactly the same thing as cocaine.

Again, I know for a fact the pills I take help me. They have helped me for a long time. Without them, I do not function properly. And I don't take ritalin, I take Concerta, which is more concentrated. I still live with my parents; I still have right.

I go to high school, and i'd say that about half the students in my school or on some sort of medication for A.D.D. Doctors thought i had A.D.D. when i was six and wanted to put me on ritalin. it turned out that i didn't have A.D.D. and that i was just a daydreamer. it's normal and i outgrew it. i know about seven people who were on that drug and it affected all of them in a negative way. it's so easy to look at a hyperactive kid and decide that they need to be medicated. it's disgusting!

I believe that children are being overly medicated, and in some circumstances, they are being drugged for being children. There are some cases, where one can suffer from a mental illness. I am still unsure as to whether or not to give chidren in any age group meds. I highly believe in CBT therapy however. Great video. Thanks so much.

Very informative it is really a brave new world. The drug companies prime motive is financial wealth and gain they literally bribe doctors to dispense their potions and inject their witches brew. How children can be taken from parents with out due process is amazing. I am dumbfounded to look in the medicine cabinet of a senior citizen. I have studied the vaccine situation and the amount of lies and denial by those with a vested interest in medicating our children is sickening. Wake up and think.

Stuff like this makes me terrified to ever become a teacher or a parent. This is one of the main reason why I don't have kids of my own and am not going into teaching. Just get me through college, graduate school, and medical school, set me in front of a microscope and some beakers and Bunsen burners, and let me wear a lab coat, and I'll be happy.

That's so true. The school is having a problem with me not wanting my kid on drugs. He was put on drugs with out my permission. Paternal Grandma lied and said he lived with him. Am still fighting this. Have a lawyer but the process is real slow. Not backing down ever. CPS said I have to because the school said so. Whatever. Good Documentary. Everyone should watch this!

Ironclawz, there may be some TOVA test but these test are subjective unlike, say a urine test for diabetes. Unlike testing for diabetes, with mental illness (other than demetia) there is no biological evidence that these illnesses exist. If you can find some I'd like to see it.

A friend of mine just forwarded this video to me and my jaw dropped. I have 3 children one of which is ADHD..now I feel for these parents of the children who have been misdiagnosed, and given these drugs when they don't need them. I told my doctor I would give it 3 weeks because they told me it would take about 2 weeks to notice a difference. 4 days later I got a call from her teacher (who didn't push for her to be put on it) telling me what a huge positive difference there was in my daughter.

ummm I hate to break it to ya buddy but her "natural spirit" has NOT been removed. She is a vibrant and enthusiatic, happy child who can CONCENTRATE better and is now liking school instead of feeling like "a dummy" or "stupid" as she called herself because she was so behind in her school work due to an unablility to concentrate in school. Some kids don't need it and are improperly diagnosed but don't sit behind your screen and judge me for HELPING my child feel like every other kid..NORMAL!!

Maybe your child was behind in school not only due to her UNability to "concentrate"... Everything begins at home. I want to thank you, and just mention that my decision had nothing to do with anything that her school, or Dr. said to me. Her school was actually reluctant to test her they made me wait a year after I asked for the initial test to actually do it. As for her Dr. He pushed for behaviour modification and counselling more than perscriptions (which I tried for 6 months b4 I tried "the pills") I totally agree some kids are being drugged for others benefit but NOT ALL. Thanks again.
