I read that the Filet-O-Fish was originally started in Ohio in 1963. I am not sure how long after that it went nation wide if not world wide. However, I live in New Jersey and remember it pretty far back in the seventies.
@Smartboy8877 and it was created so Catholics could have something to eat there on Friday during Lent. Ray Kroc created his own thing called a Hula Burger, which was a burger with a slice of pineapple instead of a beef patty, but everyone thought the Hula burger sucked and loved Fillet o Fish and the rest is history!
I remember my sister telling me about the Catholic aspect of the situation. I once volunteered for an organization in which the leader told me about the Hula Burger. I had never heard of it before that and it was long gone by the time he told me! I can imagine it having been a pretty big flop! In any event, nice chatting with you!
@fl1992 Around the very early '80s they changed him to an actor w/o a mask (possibly to soften him up?) Then they changed him again around '85 - they gave him real lazy eyes & made him very fat - after that, he disappeared & they went after the Hamburglar, changing him into what he is now
@Smartboy8877 It probably has something to do with a Sid and Marty Krofft Theme Park that was built in the lobby of a skyscraper in Atlanta (Who goes to a Hotel Lobby in Atlanta to go on vacation? It was amazing, but it made the Kroffts lose money like crazy). After that, their only hope was The Donny and Marie Show. McDonald's probably decided to stop McDonaldland until the Krofft empire got back on its feet, financially.
this doesn't have the groovy McDonaldland music.

At first I did not know who you were responding too or what the context was. Now I see the post in the uploader section. Irony at its best!
