Gwacha-Josh is using the Hanwei Practical Pro.And you are right about the length,he has come to the same conclusions. As for the cutting,I cut more than anyone in class(at least 3-4 times a week),from backyard targets to traditional targets. As for the noto or lack of,I cant really say, since noone cuts that often, I think they would rather clean the blade.I always chiburi, noto, and then go to the back and clean my blade.
one of your collegues has a huge nakago.... they are difficult to handle as i found the tsuka would hit your own body when wielding. I also find it odd that your school dont chiburi after the cut with a cloth in your gi... perfrom noto then step back... (instead of walking with a drawn blade to the back) i think you was the only one who did this on your first cut. \im interested to know why this is so (tradition of your school or so)
Gwatcha-Maybe its teacher or student preference, but I dont think I have ever seen chiburi with a rag in Toyama Ryu.I have in other systems.

Beautiful Tameshigiri john ... and loved the sparring in the video before. Wish there was more schools like this in the UK

Great stuff John! I also think your cutting was the best, and that there were some safety concerns but overall you all did a great job!

John you had the best control out of all of them... good job.

Wow John, you seem to be the best of them all! :p
You have the skills, form, zanshin and awareness of safety! That's good!!
The guy who always comes first seems to lack safety...
08:09 If your noto didn't work and the blade slipped off your left hand... that guy could have died...
