shifter is in the wrong place. belongs on the column. my intrepid has the column mounted shifter and a front bench seat. it's awesome. that's the way a sedan should be. floor mounted shifters, in my opinion, are a waste of space and inconveniently located. love the intrepid though. mine is now 11 years old and still running strong.
@mikeyhh1488 I guess thats a matter of opinion. Although having the shifter by the wheel makes sense for space. I wouldn't buy the car if it was like that in mine as I think it looks ugly. Not to mention I've never seen one with leather seats in it set up that way. I love my intrepid though but would stay away from the 2.7's. I ended up spending about $5000.00 on repairs on that pos and it only had 39,000 when I finally got rid of it. My 03 ES is a dream though, looks like this one but with roof
@jleeangelo yes, it is a matter of opinion. everyone has their own taste and that's fine with me. I just think the shifter should be on the column because, in my experience, the driver has to look away from the road to shift. That's not the case with the column mounted shifter. my intrepid has a 2.7 with 117,000 miles and it's still running with no engine problems at all. i did have to replace the alternator, though (demanding stereo system). and my oil pump is going. other than that, it's fine.
I've also been using synthetic oil since day 1. no sludge problems. the engine is great. i do wish it had a few more horses though. my 0-60 time is about 5.5s, flooring it. thats pretty good. i just wish it had more hp. i guess if i want that i'm gonna have to go for the 3.5 police package. i generally only use police engines: better cooling, more horsepower, more torque, stock 220 amp alternator, tougher. right now...overall, i'm satisfied with my 2.7.
@jleeangelo nope. it's been that way since day one. always used synthetic oil, changed it regularly, and some new spark plugs once in a while help a lot. it's all about good maintenance. the governor in mine never worked...it's gone 120+. not going to argue with that. lol
Anyone thinking of getting an intrepid with the 2.7L motor, be advised to ONLY use full-synthetic motor oil, or purchase one that only used full-synthetic. Getting one of these with high-miles is rolling the dice bigtime.
Otherwise, 2.7's do not last long. They sludge up and fail very quickly.
The 2.7L had a design flaw with the oil passages being too small in the motor, causing not enough oil flow and sludging.
I am getting a 2000 Dodge Intrepid in a few days. Its has a reconstructed 2.7 engine cause the original owner didn't take care of the original engine.....now it has 0000000 MILES!!!!!
this cars suckk.. i had a 2001 intrepid and i had it for about 10 hours and the engine fucking blew up.. idk whyy.. and i bought it from a dealer.. BIG,UGLY,SLOW..
I think im Going to put 24V emblums on the fender Of my Stratus, im going to get them off of a broken down 24V taurus. It does have a 2.7L...24V V6, 225Hp,,,Mods, lots of mods.
i dunno i think they should put the 250hp 3.5L in it and call it a srt6 or something, considering it does a 7.5 0-60 with the 200hp 2.7L i bet it would fly with the 3.5....and for the size i kinda doubt thjat cause the 2.7 is basically the same size(mass-wise) as a 3.5
7.5 for 2.7L, well scince mine has been modid it does 5.4 to 60. C&L intake Chip from Dodge performance Dayco Belt Tensioner pully Costom Dual Exsahust, Flowmaster 60s seiries No Rev Limiter No Govoner. 234hp 227P of Tourqe. lots of mods. it was not my car, it was my fathers. he did some stuff to it at the time, but this is the stuff i did to it.
Where do you get 7.5 0-60 for 2.7L...it's more like 10 seconds to get to 60. The 3.5 in the RT, SXT and the M will get the car to 60 in about 8 seconds
if you put costom duals on intrepids or stratus 4 doors, they sound wicked loud. flowmasters, cherry bomb, magnaflow, it costs couple hundred for the setup.
Nice Intrepid. I notice it's a Dodge Intrepid in the States, I have a 2000 Chrysler Intrepid. Its a Chrysler in Canada, has the Chrysler Logo on the wheel, hood and doors. Nice Car. I love mine, had it for years and had no trouble with it.
Nice Intrepid! I've got an 2000 Intrepid ES with the 2.7L V6 and as of today 189,000 miles on it. Someday I'd like to drop a 3.5L in there but I wanna see how many miles I can get off the 2.7L for now.
Hey, my name is Ivan and I work on Dodge Cars & Trucks, i soup' them up really good. I Had a 93 Dodge Intrepid IES 3.5 that ran mid 13's in a 1/4 mile and I am curently Working on a 2001 dodge ram that so far is doing low 14's in 1/4 mile. So let me know if your interested on a custom Dodge Engine Job.I am really good with Dodge....
So far had to replace the drivers door lock, now the passenger rear lock is buzzing. Had to replace both front door speakers, the foam surround came loose on both. And the rear brakes and rotors. No other repairs so far
Hey, I just wanted to say that al of your Intrepid videos are great! But, I have a question. What do you think of your Intrepid? I know that this one isn't the junk 2.7, it is the nicer 3.2. Is this car reliable? I have an oppritunity to get an Intrepid with the 3.3 engine. Thanks!
Its been reliable, no break downs and it allways starts, comfortable, nice power, good handling, great stereo. Its just a bit too big for my taste, the only thing is I had to replace the drivers door power lock, other than that, everything else works great.

@mikeyhh1488 did you do mods to get it to do 5.5. Usually the 2.7's take 8.5 to 10 secs to hit 60.

The engines of the 2.7 3.0s
remind me of the taurus engine,WHY?
because there 4 doors, they have 4valves per cylinder, DOHC, one thing is, Duratec, then Mopar.

Why cant dodge put the 3.4L or somthin over 3.0 in a Dodge Stratus?
does it have to do with the size?
i bet they could fit it in the 04 R/T Stratus.

i dunno i think they should put the 250hp 3.5L in it and call it a srt6 or something, considering it does a 7.5 0-60 with the 200hp 2.7L i bet it would fly with the 3.5....and for the size i kinda doubt thjat cause the 2.7 is basically the same size(mass-wise) as a 3.5
