Jesus. I just got goosebumps. But it's good to finally hear it fully, cause my dad used to sing it but he never really knew all the words. I cry every time I hear it, and I think I always will.
what do you mean why is an Irish man singin ti? you fucking idiot!!!!!!! idoit!!! GAHHHHHHHHHHHHH IDOIT !!!!!!! fucking DOPE!!!, most Aussies are from IReland, fucking dope!!!
What a waste of fine infantry was the Gallipoli campaign.
It's not that war is pointless, but rather that once the decision to wage war is made, the cost in suffering is too great to leave command in the hands of damned idiots.
@sjdoc War is always pointless.. The human animal is the only one that wages wars over something pointless as ficticious lines we made up to claim something that we'll never own as our own.
(This comment is not meant to degrade the men who died to perserve their homes. Because if you're under attack you defend yourself, I'm speaking of war in general)
No legs - no eggs - no man, no one should lost something, not at war not in zivil life, save and cherish people and all life, men without legs can`t !
anyone familiar with a irish singer calling himself noel nash? he played and sang in a club in NOLA called RYAN'S PUB in the french quarter. i have them and noel on 4 cassettes they called themselves, THE CELTIC FOLKS then.
This has never ceased to bring a tear to my eye. I am so proud of my heritage. Pride, Mateship, Courage, Passion, you couldn't ask for more. God bless our great nation!
kalxtube, without wishing to sound anal... it's not about the lyrics and what they mean. i haven't heard the pogues version, but this brings a tear to my eyes even now.
We should remember the people that were maimed or killed in wars throughout the ages FROM BOTH SIDES and remember how pointless war is. This song says it all for me.
I like both versions. I think the older voice here makes it sound like the man is reliving it right now, maybe telling a young person the story? Shane's voice seems to me to be coming from the distant past, like a younger man coming to grips with what happened. also very poignant.
I agree that it's a great song, it certainly doesn't suk^. (Am I spelling that correctly?)
This doesn't sound like the same guys who did "The Weight" and "Up On Cripple Creek" at all!!

@pas22cal war is used in good ways, some things can only be obtained through force, revolution from tyrants as an example

Yeah I agree, the different versions tell different stories as it were.
Oddly Bogle who wrote it's version is the weakest.
