The racist part of this song is when the crowd chants "the South will rise again," instead of the real words of the song, "His truth is marching on." They take words about God and change it to the rallying cry that segregationists used in the 60's.

Dixie was actually written by a guy from Ohio who was a circus performer. So the story goes, circus performers who traveled in the Midwest and Northeast during the winter would say to one another "I wish I was in Dixie" referring to their desire to be in a warmer climate.
