Brilliant fielder. So casual too. Dravid is a fine fielder - he catches the ones that come to him but Mark Waugh creates catches from shots batsmen just don't think should be caught. Laxman's expression said as much.
@snyperdoc1 He's not. Mark Waugh is one of the best fieldsmen ever, not because of the number, but because he never let the ball through, and he took screamers and made them look easy. Add miraculous runouts, etc. Number of catches means nothing. Example, Matthew Hayden scored 380, doesn't mean it was the best innings ever when you look at the bowlers.
Mark was a great player; I fancy he was even finer than his impeccable record would suggest; perhaps he could have averaged slightly more than just shy of 42 or been the kind of bowler that would have warranted the label 'all rounder', but this is academic. Like Kallis, de Villiers, Murali et al., he would have been exemplary in any era. People often confuse a genius with a personality, Waugh was both; his axing was a great sadness, but he is a great nonetheless. Thank you :-)
for me, the most naturally gifted fieldsman ever. johnty was terrific, gibbs great, ricky ponting tops. but waugh took speckies for breakfast. nothing fazed him. btw, that was the greatest test series of all time. india v aust 2001. cannot beat it for quality or competitiveness. it was australai at their peak and indians in good form on home turf infront of bumper crowds. easily best series ever
Lets not compare Jonty and Mark Waugh on who was better in black and white terms. Both were fantastic, I'll say Waugh was a better all round catcher, if my life depended on the ball being caught I'd want it headed Waugh's way. Jonty is obviously far superior in other aspects, athleticism, ground fielding and was an amazing catcher to boot. I think Ponting is the complete fielder and might be the most valuable of all for his versatility but he's not as dynamic as Jonty and not as slick as Waugh.
mark waugh was phenomenal when it came to catching. Made the difficult look ridiculously easy and it all came down to technique, had the perfect technique to catch a ball.
i think this is the only australian cricketer's video where the indians would praise without any condition:) players like mark waugh not only entertains us but also binds all the cricket lovers from all parts of the world into one love-CRICKET
mark waugh was not the athletic type like Jonty Rhodes. that just tells you how great of a technical catcher mark waugh was. he once said in a televised interview, "never look at the bat or the batsman or the bowler when a delivery is being bowled. look at the ball and keep your eyes on the ball, not the bat even when it is being hit." Those were the best catching tips i ever heard:)

Bowler was Colin 'Funky' Miller, and this was in the third Test of the best Test series I have ever seen.

the first one was a good catch, but he's taken way better. 2nd one was a ripper, who was the bowler?

Agree with Brendanvio only Mark Waugh would have caught it. The greatest fielder/ catcher cricket has seen.
