Hi... to make your own ocarina have a look at my tutorial... it`s in my video list. Most things you need to know are in there.
I am currently working on some ocarinas to sell on ebay.... if you`re interested you can e-mail me and we`ll figure out a price. I can keep one apart for you.
that is an amazing ocarina!!! i just wish i could make better looking ocarinas with air dry clay because air dry doesnt bend or curve very well without cracking or ripping apart
@Schwessie Glad to hear it. Would you be interested
in releasing more tutorials on clay ocarinas? I've never made an ocarina before, but I intend to start learning, and your 12 hole tutorial was extremely useful.
Right now I am making some molds and trying to get a 12-hole concert pitched ocarina-mold. I might make some other tutorials, but not in the near future. I just don`t have the time besides work, bands, etc.
@Killerboot369 In about a month I can make you one if you want, but now I`m still busy with my house (renovations). Once it`s done I`ll be making ocarinas again.
These are some of the most beautiful ocarinas of yours i just started making my own last Friday. 5 working ocs! xD You should make how to's on how to play the instrument :)
Man i look at differnt people ocarina's and they buy it. but yours, YOU made it and it looks wonderful. I don't actually own one (yet feel left out ) but really want one like yours. So cool
Thanks! I`m still making ocarinas. You should also get some clay... watch my tutorial and start making one. I`m also thinking oc doing another Youtube ocarina contest soon, so maybe you can win one... and since you subscribed... you`ll know when the video is up.
@MrTommykk What does the starter ocarina look like... do you have a picture? I could make an ocarina of time, but I don`t have the right glaze colours right now. What colours do you like?
@jumpingjellyguy I think that could work. The handle will be the moutpiece then? Make sure that you try to make the internal cavity as round as possible... that works better for the sound.
I currently use creaton clay 25% chamotte 0- 0,2 mm. So really fine grogged clay... but there are more brands that have similar clays. Just ask at a local arts and crafts store or pottery. Good luck on the ocarina!
Thank you... It was quite a lot of work, but it turned out nice. I`va actually mode a few more in more or less the same style, but I`m quite busy with work lately, so I haven`t been able to make a lot in the last few weeks.
Had you ever considered selling your ocarinas? They seem to be of VERY high quality, and you could probably get a respectable following, with proper advertising.
Thanks, I am thinking of putting some ocarinas on E-bay, but I don`t have molds yet, so I can only make a few... I should start thinking of making a mold or two... lol
Do you mean the type of clay? The clay needs to be really fine grogged that has to be baked at at least 1200 degrees in a special kiln. So clay also used for sculptures, etc.
Hi there.. Yes, there are so many possibilities with ocarinas. I have made some zelda-replica`s, but never in the puple fairy colour. Maybe I`ll try that some day!
Well, that`s a great compliment. The muse looks great, but that one is even more complicated with the lines and has a different overall shape. I guess it`s the face and the colour that give it a similar feel.
No, it`s not a patent, just copyrighted because it only applies to the shape of the ocarina, not the technical aspects. Copyright is automatically your right as an artist/creator of that specific shape.
Well... ask I guess, but it`s better to come up with another original design. It`s only a way to keep the right on my own design... so if I ever want to make them commercially I am the only one who can use this specific shape. That`s pretty much it.
I could teach you the basics, but you`d still have to practice at getting a great sound. Unfortunately it`s not as easy as it looks especially the 12-holes. I would start with a 4 or 5-hole first. If you have questions just write me at my hotmail.
Lots of practice and lots of messing up! Everytime I try new approaches and see how I end up. The 12-holes are defenitely the most difficult, but keep focussing on the airway, soundhole and ramp. You`ll get it...
Yes I did. Officially I am an art-therapist, so that helps with making them look good, but that`s not the most important. Once you have a good sound then you can focus on the shapes. It`s pointless to spend time on a great shape when the oc sounds rubbish, haha.
Yes, and I now have the sound perfected recently. I now need to make them look nice, but the clay that I use still has little pebbles in it. I need smooth clay to make them look nice, but I'll be selling them as they are (provided they don't lose their sound after initial firing.
So that's why your ocarinas look so much smoother than mine! You've taken art-therapy classes. I never worked with clay before I started making ocs, so my first ones were terrible, lol!
Yes, I would really recommend getting a really smooth clay. Those small dried clay particles or chamotte can really change the airflow inside the airchannel or on the ramp, so it`s better to avoid that. I just watched your tutorial and I do see some differences in the style of making them, especially the airway/voicing part and also about shaping them. Yes, when I can find the time I might have to experiment a little with trying to make molds, or maybe take a class or something. But for now I`m just trying to make different shapes and using different types of clay. Thanks for the comment!

Practice makes perfect, I suppose. How long have you been making ocarinas for?
OcarinaTycoon 3 years ago
Hmmm... I guess I started about six months ago. What kind of tool do you use to make the airway?
Schwessie 3 years ago
I use a popsicle stick. It gives a perfect width for the tenor and bass :)
Six months! And they sound and look far better than mine do? Did you take a pottery class for school or something?
OcarinaTycoon 3 years ago
Yes I did. Officially I am an art-therapist, so that helps with making them look good, but that`s not the most important. Once you have a good sound then you can focus on the shapes. It`s pointless to spend time on a great shape when the oc sounds rubbish, haha.
