  • OMG!!! what a brutal crash!

  • that is something sad to watch

  • Guys , the price is a hell no for REPAIRS , it's the price for REPLACE .

  • 4500 dollars for only that shit ??

  • 4 Grand for that? Well i fixed a 2000 dollar dent in the side of my door for free....

  • is this what happens when you bump your 2007 Volkswagen Passat on a pillar in a parking lot?

  • pos volkswagon.

  • DID HE DIE?

  • @BruinsRock8 -- Ouch! If I caused that much damage from a 5 mph bumper collision, I think I just might die!

  • @BruinsRock8 Probably when he saw the repair cost he just dropped dead right away.

  • nasty

  • Dummy:

    Y U NO GO UNDER!

  • I liked the add where it said "Just Dont Drive" as soon as the VeeDub hit the wall.

  • Why aren't they testing veyron?

  • what kind of bumper is that low!!!!

  • Hmmm, VW's are better? I just read some actual owner reviews on some recent ones....not a lot of happy people...

  • @stuwip839

because you're in america, come to europa, no problem with VW

  • @BeKozlov90 That could very well be true, I truely don't know how much they differ between the American and European versions. But actually today, there is an article on the Yahoo homepage that is called "Five used cars to avoid," and VW has two on there, the New Bettle and the Passat and its based on JD Power and Associates for the 08 model year. Truth be told, VW makes some very nice cars, and I almost bought a Passat before my Fusion, but after doing some research, Im glad I didn't.

  • @stuwip839

in europa engine are 1.2 to 2.0 for basic car, in america all people choose (automatic) because automatic eat some fuel then manual and choose big engine (V6 / V8), but in europe we take 4 cylenders because we pay 1.50 € / L gas and 1.35 € Diesel . (Galon = 4 L )

    and for a little engine 1.1i Gas 60 HP , i pay 60 €(86$ us) / month , for a 2.0L VW TSI GOLF, i pay 150€(215$ us) /month

    and by month, a normal people(have a job) win between 1200€ - 2000€

that's not the same life ^^

  • @BeKozlov90

there's another difference... european cars get 180 ps out of 1.4L

in america you need min. 3.0L to get the same power.

  • @TriumphBiker1980

hahah you talk about TSI or RS of 1.4L to 180 hp ? :p (ps : i love new TSI or TFSI i don't know the different)

    so a 5.0L american = killed by R8 Gasolina ? :p (FSI 525hp to 5.0L)

  • @stuwip839 Actually, here in Europe they are the most reliable of cars. It's very common to see used Golfs (1980-present) for sale, and they are tough little bastards. By far, the most used diesel engine is the 1.9TDI from VW or the 1.5 dCi from Renault. The VW TDI engines are often quoted as reliable, and my family has one (on a Skoda Octavia) topping the 300.000km mark with a 12 year old engine. Skodas are also very popular around here (Portugal) since they are cheap VWs with original engines.

  • @stuwip839 american owner, I suppose. Interesting, considering american cars are the worst cars of the western hemisphere.

  • @locoawise Nope, not an american owner. But it is noted that European vehicles trail just as much as American ones. Sorry.

  • haha good

  • I am ready to do this test myself, I am really ready for me to safety I hope I am a volunteer safety testing company to take care of this speech and I am in full mental

  • Not better than subaru, seach this title and see the difference

"All ALL WHEEL DRIVES are NOT created equal"

  • thats verry good better than moast other cars have a look how a ford gets on

  • It looks like rubber front :) Even headlamp is flexible! :D

    Awesome! xD

  • WHAT???:O:O:O DAMAGE 4.594$.. Are you crazy??

  • fuck this car

  • This test should be against a car instead a wall .. I mean ppl isn't that stupid to go to a wall LOL. For me this test fail.

  • ok, bumber test, 6 mph, old cars are better then new one...just try the same comparation at 40 or 50 mph...

  • If it was a lambo.......

  • nice to know when you hit a truck..... ftw

  • if you dont pay for insurance for a new car you cant drive it its the law

  • i'm a designer at BMW- for mini.

all new cars are designed to satisfy health and safety rules set by the government/ EU etc to be sold.

for those that question why it's more expensive etc- the higher amount of damage is because the car crumbles, and slows down slower. all to reduce whiplash and all those things.

if it's money you're worried about its your cars insurance premium, or potentially you're out of work for months.

in the bigger picture it saves money/injury..

  • @tonyjd12 If your a designer for Mini, make the bumbers actaully work, last time I checked, a Mini-s has to have around 7 grand to be fixed from a 5 mph bumb into an angled wall like in parking decks.

  • @Motorfordtoyota dont worry, that was before i came!

the jsw is still expensive to fix in all honesty, because of its body kit, but the new new mini is cheaper to fix as a whole because it has a slightly easier design for fixing :)

i dont know who quoted you that though.

  • yeah safety, well honestly they need to make bumpers for bumping again, like if you get into a fender bender with someone, i dont want the car to "absorb the energy" and fall apart costing me thousands. its a fucking fender bender, your not gonna be killed just a little bit of whiplash tops, id rather deal with a little bit of slightly anoying pain than pay a thousand bucks to replace the front end of my car. bring back tough cars!

  • why some test are with the full bumper and others jst with the corners..??? i just think this is kind of lame...

  • Germany has best cars

    but damn, theyre expensiv

  • Front bumper crash test took up the hood. o.o

  • i like how the repair cost at 7mph is more than four times as high as the one for tall the other cars i've checked out. Because VW is a piece of shit.

  • @frozenskipper The car company that owns Bentley and Porsche...

    ...is a piece of crap?

    o.o You got problems, man.

  • @dmenkhau owns, yes, doesent really have alot to do with the cars.

And i was mainly reffering to their people carriers.

Theyre like audi really, some think owning one gives them status, 2 bad when they spend half their lives at a repair shop...... its not my fault m8, blame vw

  • 4600?!!! That's how much my friend bought this car for! (with 47000 miles! from an auction)

  • vw sux

  • @Guitarnoob99 no it doesnt, have u ever owned a vw?

  • @B789c yes, a 1997 vw golf....but never the less look at the video that is terrible thing to see, the car is badly designed

  • That's rediculous! The whole front frame came apart and the front passenger head lamp became loose! Any vids on the rear bumper?

  • this is a very bad bumper design. too small you can see the other bumper slide over the passat's dammit VW make cars like you did in the 80s!

  • It must be, the metallic paint. With metallic paint you have to respray most of the car to blend the paint properly

  • fuck that's bad:O

  • When I saw the cost, I was thinking "here is another Nissan Maxima where the bumper is so low to be of as much help.

  • cheap FAIL!

  • it got served .

  • How can you feel robbed?

Better four and a half grand in repairs than in medical bills.

  • What a piece of dung

  • damage is only 4 grand, wow, that's super cheap!

    /sarkasm

  • The grill and the hood are damaged. I thought they wanted to test the bumper?

  • oh snap

  • I have an 06' Altima Se. Perfect little car, does what needs to be done. So I accidently hit a light pole in front of me in a parking lot. I didn't feel a thing. I get out and see the bumper is half-crooked, the plate fell off, the grille is broken, ETC. The insurance company wanted $7,000 to repair it! WTF? I have a cousin who's a mechanic and he fixed it pretty well for $2,200

  • @mypassmark1 you might want to start looking where you go

  • @fenix144

Thanks Smart Alec, I didn't see that one coming! But really, I am a safe driver. It was late at night, I was tired from 12 hours of work, and probably dazed out a little.

  • hhahha older cars do better than that

  • Best one in these bumper tests ive seen so far is the Audi A4

  • the bump wasnt absorbed by the bumpers.

they should make a changeable height of the bumptester.

  • OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • NOT PLASTIC! There are haevy steel bumpers behind plastic covers.

  • ahh the good old days with the classic 60's and 70's cars with fully metal bumpers.. sht like this didnt happen..

  • i really don't understand the reason / meaning of this type of crash test...

  • @Adrianish84

The insurance companies do this for 2 good reasons amoung many, 1 so they can understand the typical of damage in given situations (to prevent people scamming for the repair costs etc), and also to better understand the risk loading on a particular vehicle, ie a cheap to fix vehicle will be cheaper to insure than an expensive repair bill vehicle. HTH :)

  • plastic

  • @The38boy38 no not plastic, paper

  • YOU CALL THAT INNOVATION?

IT RUINED THE FRONT OF THE CAR!

Look at the 1981 Ford Escort bumper test

    THAT'S a bumper!

  • @MissingNo11

It seems we've look the vids in the same order.....You're so right !

  • @MissingNo11 Why do you comment on vides regarding a topic about which you clearly have no clue...and that goes for some other people here as well.

  • @derbigpr500

I'm sorry, I thought this was the internet.

  • @MissingNo11 when you don't understand physics you don't post

  • Shit results...

  • Actually the Passat looks better after the crash;)

  • @Granada28 lol. true somehow :P

  • this crash tests are made for situations like you underbreak behind a truck lets say and pay a lot of money for little-energy impact...

  • What? So much for nothing?

  • That's amazing for 6 mph.......won't be buying one of those!

  • you must not know what these tests simulate do you? Volkswagens in general are better than any American car in the price range you can find.

  • yeah right, wait till the repairs bills come for these VW's, twice the cost for maintenance, i'll buy american any day, let's support our country for once.

  • @xXStupidHurtsXx

    In what area?

  • @xXStupidHurtsXx No, Volkswagens in general are better than ANY american car, in terms of quality, reliablity, technology....america has no answer for cars like VW Touareg... VW Pheaeton....not to mention Audi's , which are made by VW.

  • @derbigpr500 or Mercedes-Benz

  • @xXStupidHurtsXx and they have the most companies : VolksWagen owns Audi, VW, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Scania Trucks, a small portion of Suzuki, Volkswagen commercial vehicles, 50% of MAN , and they now own some small bike companies

  • @xXStupidHurtsXx

    and better quality

  • @xXStupidHurtsXx u sayd tht coz u are european

  • @dolphinfanatic3939 half of todays cars behave the same way... impact in that height means pushing engine back = big cost

  • this is NOT a bumper crash test, it's an above bumper crash test

  • Do you know this test or not? don't know, please don simply comment.

this car damage reason for the design, when hit the curve of the bone pull the head down. if you look at Camry design will not have this happen.

it is car head chassis design problem!

    no offence here....

  • a lot of cars have so designed noses, and bumpers of trucks are too high above the road. and always, even if small impact, the car behind gets much more damage...

one idiot hit me from behind on crossing, i only had to change the rear bumper and he needed to change the support of the whole engine space

  • yeah i know.. but... why didn't they do something so that it won't hit that curve part... i don't know.. higher suspension.. just to see how it's bumper reacts

    cheers

  • That is why, alot of car company will research others brand car design, and learn and improve the next new generation design.

Some brand will improve, some brand will never improve, that is human been... it was sad. that is why war is happen everywhere. sad.

  • aerodynamic fail

  • lol lets defeat the purpose of a bumper by hitting it right above it......even enough to drive the front down....

  • the bumper of a truck for instance is not going to adjust itself to that of a a Passat.

  • @yellowmusicfreak Its showing the effectiveness of these bumbers against the typical pickup of SUV bumber. Infact, no cars have bumbers that freaking line up. Some have way low, some way high, some recessed behind the lights ect.

  • @yellowmusicfreak That's the idea. They intentionally hit above it. They find the standard high of bumpers and they run the cars into them. Since SUVs were so popular in '07, they tested it against an average bumper in '07 to determine how much damage you'd need t pay for an average traffic collision with an average car. You clearly miss the point of a bumper crash test. Accidents don't always happen at the level of your bumper. This clearly went right over your head.

  • @yellowmusicfreak they're only hitting there because the bumper is not at the standard hight it should be.

  • ehm, today, cars dont have a chassis anymore, that is safer, all the frame is taking the kinetic energy so its in europe

i dont know about american cars...

  • @RenegadeXS

the chasis got to absorve damage, so it deforms more to dissipate the impact, even though some today's cars are "plastic made" for low cost production, i dont think thats the case for the passat.

  • what's the chance of hitting something the shaped of that thing.. -_-

    car bumpers aren't like that...

  • F'kin expensive !

  • Bumper, radiator support & if its a turbo the inter cooler will also be damaged seeing as the condenser/pipes, radiator+fans & inter cooler are stacked up against each other.

  • if the actual bumper was a little higher it probably would have half the effect it did, just the bumper and i guess the "plastic bumper cover" would hypothetically needed to be fixed

  • My 2007 kia spectra was rear ended by new york city yellow cab , he was doing at least 20 .The only damage was to my trunk lid which shifted 3 inchs to the right ,and some scratch to my bumper.

  • how is that 4000 dollars?

  • did damage to the grill, hood, and front bumper, as well as probably ruining the radiator and air conditioning, its not even drivable, each part is a few hundred dolars, plus to be installed, painted, and labor costs. its crazy i know.

  • Because the manufactures rip us of with spare parts.

  • Rad damage..ac damage...grill bumper damage..

  • Because its VW man...

Me da owns b6 like that nd its a roket!!! Really cheap cost of usin as well

  • did the driver live?

  • The dummy got back in for more. Go figure.

  • wats the point of having a bumper if it's gonna make $4k worth of damage for a small ass bump like that

  • still, it depends on the height of the obstacle. IIHS standard obstacle is designed for US, whereas VW is a german car, and its front is designed for European standard obstacle (whatever that means), you see, if the obstacle was a little lower damage would not probably exceed 1K.

  • Ouch!

Totally brutal seeing my car get bent out of shape!

My insurance went down $20/month when I traded in my '01 A4 for my '08 Passat! Crazyness!

  • I still wonder what's the point of this test other than for insurance company to determines the rate.

Is that bumper the car crash into a SUV height or normal car height? and if it's car height ...how many car vs car low speed fender bender will allow the other car to dive under and destroy the grille and hood?

  • The car makers make sure that the hood buckles in every impact so that you wont be able to drive it and have to get it fixed. CHA-CHING!

  • its for your safety. The energy better is absorbed by the front of the car then by your body. Moreover the passenger-cabin stays safe while everything else is getting heavy damage.

German engineering. Better pay for a car then a life.

  • @theRoSh Read up a thing called 'physics'. Though passat is a safe car, in this case, ie. at low speeds, a more spring like bumper, resistant to damage is better.

This is so that when car hits the barrier, the barrier starts to deform the bumper, but bumper acts like a spring, meaning it absorbs energy to a point until it cant be compressed farther. This way, the deceleration from the hit is less as energy is absorbed more slowly by a springlike bumper than by a rigid bumper.

  • @theRoSh Check out the 2007 Toyota Camry's front bumper test. Its much better since the deceleration is less, more gradual so you are less likely to bang your head on the steering wheel and break your teeth (assuming airbags dont deploy at low speed). For the camry, you can see how the bumper springs back, since it effectively got compressed like a spring and then returned all the energy back to the barrier. The passat bumper offers no resistance, so energy is absorbed very quickly

  • @PlancksTime But what about the results when it automatically hits 90 mph on its own and crashes?

  • @lololmao7 convert to Islam

  • @PlancksTime YOU lol :D

  • @GhostsH2O I already have, HA!

  • @PlancksTime

Why convert to islam ?! If I dont like that " religion " :D I respect it :D :D soz if I say something that hurt youD

  • @theRoSh Also, to further destroy your bullshit comment, because I am at this moment in TROLL MODE, you should realise that AT SUCH LOW SPEEDS no one is going to die and a bumper that returns to its former shape, or is less costly, will be more superior to the passat's breakable bumper. At 5 mph, you are likely to not even get a minor injury, like tripping while walking. So plz dont talk about energy until you understand what it means. ARRRGGHHHH!!! >>:()

  • @theRoSh At 5 mph this amount of damage is unneeded and actually just drives up repair costs.

  • @theRoSh yay at last someone that isnt a complete ignorant

  • @theRoSh I've seen people walk away from accidents were the car was not even phaised .... I guess it depends on certain things here and thier.

  • @theRoSh bumper = fail. what happened to big steel chrome plated bars of steel like in the 70s that actually survived a crash at 5mph? Instead of sheets of plastic and foam. I wouldnt mind if it didnt cost ~$2,000 - ~$5,000 a pop. I know you say "its for your safety" but that actually comes into play at 20+mph. By then your gonna damage most of your car no matter how strong the bumper is.

With a bumper this weak I wouldnt call a car "safe". I'd call it cheap.

  • @theRoSh at 5mph? There are little things in fairgrounds that suffer harder hits than that and the occupants are fine and the total repair cost is $0.00

at 30mph I expect expensive damage, at 5mph i expect the car to be fine and maybe have a scratch or two.

  • hey nomasain they do this cause if you hit somebody your car gets the most of the damage isnt because they wanna steal your money

  • GOOD :)

  • wooooooooooow.

  • also, desgins like this one is better for pedestrian protection.

  • Even IF all bumpers have the same height, hard braking causes cars to dive underneath another.

    Manufacturers know this.

Older cars had bumper overriders or bumpers encirceling the entire front and rear facia to prevent this.

Nowadays SOME cars flex back into shape after bumps like these, protecting the occupants non the less and not weighing down the car.

Others are deliberatly designed to steal your money in case of a minor collision, so let the latter go bankrupt please.

  • Yeah :) I've been in insurer's cars service and it was pretty fun to see like 20-30 bumpers on the grass :)

  • my sister has dat car in sport she is 18 now!!! she did someting like that!!!

  • kill her ;]

  • LOL bumper test

  • the bumper is too low

  • the bumper is too high

  • $4600 dollars worth of damage? WTF!? Almost nothing happened. Fucking companies and mechanics want to rip people off.

  • Tell me about it, someone scraped our 2000 malibu bumper and the dealer wanted $600 to repaint it....yeah just for PAINT.

  • theres like 10 dollars worth of plastic beauty ruined!

  • how could such a safe car suck at bumpers?!

  • What has that to do with the saftety of the car? Explain me...

  • they are made to crumple and absorb all the energy so when you hit another car doing 40 or 50 or whatever the car crumples around you and you stay as safe as possible its kind of like a pillow which absorbs and slows the car down but they cant make cars out of pillows look at and older vehicle crash test not as safe see?

  • The results was the same with Maxima, and the hood fucked up too :/

that shit for the crash tests was too high!

the cars mostly have their bumper lower than this.

Passat is a gr8 high class car,if you buy it,you should also afford that money ;)

  • you know you have a lousy car if it can't drive away from an accident like that.

  • I think that their fake bumper is mounted to high. Almost every car submarines like that on this test.

  • Yea probably. And this thing is a stiff and narrow piece of metal... totally unlike most vehicles on the road today. I'm thinking that an accurate damage estimate would be 1/3 of what the IIHS determines.

  • exactly haha

    i totally agree

  • nicknameneverused1.

haha same here its so ridiculous to just have your car scratchless!!

  • only an idiot would pay that much to fix it i'd leave it how it is

  • lol, yeah. I'd just call it a battle scar

  • only an idiot wouldn't pay the insurence for a new car!

  • @jagalskaripod well in some countrys its imperative to have a insurance in order to drive that car....

  • more aerodynamic after

  • dissposable car

  • what car you have ?

  • agreed

  • ...in a major impact. Bumper tests at low speed don't involve enough G forces to injure a passenger with an ordinary seatbelt (which is why air bags are designed to go off at low speed; expensive to replace if not necessary). They are really testing how well the car takes da
