a lot of people in america talking through the whole show.derek should do more shows in europe.this audience is more jazz-oriented.It is a pity if people gossip all the time.in Derek's music should listen to.he is soooo great!
@cm0220ster Totally. I love seeing Jazz shows, or shows in Jazz venues or with Jazz audiences, for this very reason. The silence allows everyone to hear, but it also allows for quieter playing (more mellow and introspective parts), which I'm a big fan of.
The other thing I like, at Jazz shows, is the respect for the soloists. Someone finishes a solo, or plays a good run, and people clap. No need to wait for the end of the song. :)
i was referencing the origin of the song...the sound of music. of course the derek trucks band plays the song more like coltranes adaptation than broadway musicals.
@REDHAIREDMONSTER I agree. WHat I do believe that I don't hear people mention much is that McCoy Tyner gets about as much solo space and just kills on that song as well. Derek's new (ish) live album has a killer version of Afro Blue as well. For the record there is a Gov't Mule live track that has both him and Warren on it. And if I could take a second and plug their friend Jimmy Herrings Lifeboat album, it's a must hear especially if you like instrumental jams like this.
isn't that a ginantonic scale?

amen. be quiet and listen to the song. youd think it would knock trucks off, this is a song you really listen to and get immersed in.

boy, this is what I hate so much about DTB shows. its the one show I go to that i wish had complete silence....
hendrixlp1970 2 years ago
@samjonathanjowett At a real jazz show show the audience would be dead quiet for this. Sign of respect for the music you know.

Wow! I wanted to go see him when he was in Chicago this day. I regret not being able to go. This is an amazing performance.

derek plays coltrane, just brilliant- but why the fuck are people talking through it?
Benfatbackbeat 3 years ago 11
Id loved to see Derek and his band play more jazz orientated music.
I love the different flavours of notes he plays in tracks like 'Bock to Bock', moving away from the simple pentatonic notes.
thebomb321 3 years ago 2
Yeah, but the thing is, Derek makes those simple pentatonic patterns sound insane.
unscrupulousrane07 3 years ago 8
@unscrupulousrane07 That's because it isn't purely pentatonic. He's adding every other note and playing modally, which is what sets him appart.

my favorite things. as in the song from The Sound of Music

More like, as in the John Coltrane Quintet. To your defense, though, the song does appear in The Sound of Music.

yes, the song was written for The Sound of Music(which I love), but Coltrane did my favorite version.
