  • thanks for sharing Lockheed

  • very interesting video thanks

  • technology has gone backwards, look at what could be done back in the 50's and 60's with no computers

  • @bigchiefmingingbolok no till 50 u had normal goverment wich showed some stuff to public but now your world goverments dont show to public nothing what they invent and blieve theyre are some crazy shit invented 20 years forward if not more but we dont know nothing about it

  • Great footage! These Lockheed videos help us 20 and 30 somethings understand the progression of modern aircraft. And do so without heavy metal that makes my ears bleed.

  • Thank you for posting these videos. A great tribute to an awesome plane, designers and builders.

  • Pilot must be very nervous flying a prototype...

  • @Rumeel12708, the a12 can out run the Sr71, has one pilot, and shitier cameras

  • WATS THE DIFFERENCE BEWTEEN THE A-12 AND SR-71?????

  • This is such an awesome plane! My grandfather was a test pilot for this in the 60s. Flying at 80,000 feet going mach 3+ would be so amazing!

  • Excellent

  • Is this at Groom Lake or the "Skunkworks" at Burbank,Calif?

  • @DuckNuzzFTW ara 51. theres all your ufos people saw back then over area 51

  • This looks identical to the M21 and the SR71. What's the difference?

  • Waaaaaay ahead of its time! May Lockheed Martin and the Skunk Works keep turning out cutting edge stuff!

  • Kelly would be proud

  • the most first version is made in 1945 - 1950, color was like gray but looks like curve mirror in shape.

  • thats the sr-71 blackbird or something not a-12 right?

  • Is it the Black Bird?

  • Lockheed needs another Clarence Johnson! Would love to see what that genius would have come up with using today's technology.

  • this plane is faster than gun bullet

  • this was one of the u.s.'s best plane though it didnt get the best standards but it was the predecesor of the sr-71 which is larger and can carry more fuel, not to mention two cockpits. they use them for training

  • ...Ultimately it comes down to which spyplane is the cheapest lol

  • Spoiler Alert: Lockheed martin owns Area 51

  • Now you need to build Mach 10 version:D

  • In the bare titanium this must be one of the most beautiful aircraft that has ever flown - shows what can be done when there's the need and the knowhow. Thanks for posting this, Lockheed Martin...

  • Was this also the last flight?

  • @Rudeinfw No - the A-12 was in service from 1963-1968 and led to the development of the SR-71.

  • @LockheedMartinVideos ...for the CIA, right?

  • Comment removed

  • @Rudeinfw its the sr71 black birds prtyp

  • yo trabajo en eos y me siento orgullosa de aser las cosas para los avion ..mi trabajo es eos la mesa en tijuana bc mexico

  • SR-71 ?

  • Filmen er jo fra 1970 tallet, tull...

  • @TheLilletiger Luk røvn lille tiger xD

  • When I was a kid in the Valley (CP),I had Rocketdyne testing breaking the House windows and low flying planes like this breaking windows and guess what I got,I got a very big spanking every time a window got wreck. And when they did it a night and I was alone(lots),it scared this little kid to death almost.

  • thanks

  • its too bad theyre not in production :(

  • What format was originally used for this recording?

  • @twitchyfingers It was original shot on film. We have been digitizing some historic flights recently in order to preserve and share them.

  • @LockheedMartinVideos Like the recently declassified missions during the cold war?

  • @LockheedMartinVideos Thanks for your valuable work, much appreciated..:-)

  • a war nation.

  • Just beautiful.

  • I hope to see more footage of the A-12 Cygnus/Oxcart.

  • hey Lockheed, what about some F117 test videos!!!

  • So amazing seeing the first blackbird to fly. Wish there was sound to go with this video. Wonderful seeing this old footage. Keep it coming!

  • @swiltzius Check out our "From the Archives" Playlist. We have uploaded many first flight videos recently - more to come.

  • @swiltzius Just do what I do and make your own sound effects! WOooosh! :-D

  • Great video. Thanks for uploading.

  • I love this aircraft :)

  • why isn't this top secret !?

  • Hey Beard, you forgot the M-21. It first flew on the same day as the YF-12.

  • this is the History !!!

  • I love how it looks bare metal! Very interesting shading on the panels!

  • karânba ki legal

  • Kudos to the CIA for making the whole series of blackbirds possible in the first place! Kelly Johnson said later that they "built the wrong airplane" he thought the YF-12 interceptor version should have been the "pick of the litter".

  • 25 Stars!!!!! Now I'm hot for YF-12A, my FAVOURITE Blackbird. :-)

  • At 1:15, what model is the aircraft flying alongside the Blackbird? Looks like an F-104...

  • @89Sunbird The chase planes at groom at the time were F-101 Voodoos

  • @beardhd Ah, thanks for clarifying...I thought the intakes looked like F-104, but couldnt see the tail clear enough...

  • I never understood, was this project cancelled due to cost?

  • @flightrulez No the A-12 was used in reconnaissance missions. It retired soon after being built, but it was one of the building blocks for the SR-71.

  • @ihavtugo But I always thought that the A-12 came after the SR-71, because I was told that the A-12 was a high altitude interceptor.

  • @flightrulez A-12 was the FIRST of the blackbirds, THEN the YF-12 interceptor version. THEN came the SR-71....basically a loaded down, version of the A-12 with a guy in back.

  • @flightrulez It's a simple mistake. Just Google A-12 you'll find everything you need to know.

  • @flightrulez It was cancelled due to Gen. Curtiss LeMay wanting the ONLY reconnaissance role for the USAF...Thereby cutting the CIA's throat

  • BLACKBIRD IS CREDIT TO TEAM

  • GREAT VIDEO OF HISTORY!!

  • very weird and eerie, test took place at Grrom Lake air force base in 1962, Dreamland, Area 51.

If they were doing this type of technology in 1962 just imagine what these skunk work fella are working on now!

Keep up the good work guys!

  • @beefforhire hope fully something better than have blue lol

  • @beefforhire Groom Lake isn't technically an "Air Force Base" per-say. Groom Lake is a DOD research facility for use by all Defense Department offices and agencies, but it is maintained by Detachment 3 of the Air Force Flight Test Centers.

    Otherwise, GREAT POST! Thumbs up!

  • imagine how was that vid secret you are watching right now.

  • You NEVER see any footage of the spooks flying their planes.

  • @Eyeofnelms This isn't one of the spooks either....only the 1st of MANY test flights of the prototype to prove the concept

  • Great footage LM! needs more footage like this.

  • @fighterace2688 More to come - we are working on adding first flight video of several aircraft from our archives

  • @LockheedMartinVideos awesome, can't wait

  • @LockheedMartinVideos These recently declassed or something?

Damn, man. The Blackbird was a sexy beast.

  • @AmericanAviator We just recently converted them from film to a digital format.

  • Awesome footage !
