When we declare ourselves a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. person, we are signing some rights over, presumably in return for a benefit. We believe that we are merely affirming that we are born in America, whereas we are submitting to the state. You will never see "person" defined as "A living, breathing human being".
The speaker got it backwards- the term "person" does not encompass all of our rights as a human beings. It is actually ourselves that are responsible for limiting our own rights when we opt into the status of "person". That term denotes a specific legal entity, and a corporation can be one too. Those rights are all granted by the state. The state can create an entity. We can ask for that same status too.
