  • Leadbelly would be proud to hear Rory play his tune.

  • An inspiration. Rory is a musician's musician.

  • The greatest most talented guitarist there has ever been or probably ever will be.

I am proud to say I have seen him live twice.

    God bless you Rory.

  • come a ca cai gigica come a ca cai gigica gigica yeah

  • Rory was loved and admired by all the great guitarists, Clapton said the man who brought me back to the blues. See what the likes of Slash or Brian May had to say, they all looked up to him. Sometimes it take genius to recognise real genius.

  • Saw Rory open for Nazareth and Deep Purple in Atlanta in the seventies. Guess who blew both headliners totally away? He and the drummer did a harmonica drum jam for fifteen minutes to thirty thousand people.

  • should be an "OMG...hell yeah!!" button on some youtube vids...like this one.

    Much appreciation to the uploader.

  • Every single time I hear/se e this I gotta cry. The guy was in a league of his own. maybe Alvin Lee was the only one in Europe to reach something similar at times.

  • seen Rory 3 times.... he was mearly excelent '..... & missed

  • There are no words to describe this guy's ...... can't explain. Gotta cry. After all these years, decades with hard rock, metal, prog, fusion, anything with guitar,. this still makes me so humble. Words are not enough. None of you "critics" are worthy.

  • i love this guy, so passionate about his music a true genius without a doubt, im proud to be from cork where rory grew up

  • i love this guy, so passionate about his music a true genius without a doubt, im proud to be from cork where rory grew up

  • @thekevster76 As am I proud to be from Donegal where Rory was born.

  • Did you see the thing he does with Harmonix?

  • Simply superb, the first concert I attended was Rory Gallagher in '74 at the Ulster Hall in Belfast and it was brilliant, I shook his hand and went to every concert of his thereafter. Check out Michael Steenson for a low key but great version of this immortal tune.....

  • I can't believe this guy isn't a household name. This song sounds so much like Jimmy Page and Zeppelin.

  • @mvflaim he never wrote it

  • he was one of the best blues guitarrists of that time!

Who likes Jimi H. likes Rory too!!!

  • Saw one concert on 8, 6 , 1994 Langenau / Germany , when a dream came true !

    Rory , sadly missed , never forgotten . R.I.P.

  • Once, when Jimi Hendrix was asked what it felt like to be the greatest guitarist in the world, he said, 'I don't know. Ask Rory Gallagher.'!

  • Very special. I remember seeing him live several times at the City Hall Newcastle upon Tyne. One of the best blues men ever. Not bad for a bog irishman lol

  • Rory! For always in our hearts.

This look at 1:11... that´s so him, that was what made him special amongst the others.

  • Ben Taylor (James' son) does a tremendous version of this, called "cow Cow Yikkyy Yikky Ay" I just saw him do it a couple weeks ago in SF. Its on bens website and a clip of it is on Youtube as well...

  • rest in peace gold boy.good luck my friend

  • it is rory singin ya fuckin dickhead fuck off i hate people that dont understand what an irish blues guitarist is about fuck u prejudice sap

  • Next you're going to be saying that he wasn't really wearing flannel, then that he didn't really have long hair, then who knows... maybe you's try to convince people that he never existed. It never ends with you people.

  • The audio's out of sync, it happens sometimes when a clip's uploaded. I can assure you that it is indeed Rory singing. Don't you know his voice?

  • in response angel..it definitely is him!..have you ever gone to the rory festival in bundoran?..havent been but goin this year...just realised that was 6 months ago you wrote this..oops.

  • I know Sean, I've had it on DVD for years, I was responding to somebody who thought it wasn't because the sound didn't match the video. Never mde it to Ballyshannon yet but I did go to Cork a few years ago for his 10th anniversary. There was a nice exhibition in the library with some of his instruments and many of his handwritten song lyrics. I found it very moving to see where he'd crossed out words and added others as he put the songs together. Took some flowers out to St Oliver's for him too.

  • if there was a messiah then it was rory..........sounds kinda cheesy but i think its true :) R.I.P. Rory

  • This man was divine !!!! Rory forever

  • They don't make them like you anymore, Rory...

    We're talking about mold here.

  • top man thanks for the music rory

  • Why can't there be such a sort of musicians nowadays? I guess I m "born on the wrong side of time".I love you Rory!

  • My thoughts precisely - thank god for these recordings though.

  • me too :(

  • ah there is

just need to look out for it

but yea theres alot less nowadays becoz of some bad rappers like soulja boy nd mike jones

  • Why can't there be such a sort of musicians nowadays? I guess I m "born on the wrong side of time".I love you Rory!

  • a true all the way blues man and a unbelivalble musician he shall never be forgoten

  • I love this song....and I love you RORYYYY!!!!!!

  • fuckin class you can't get better than this man. Other guitarists take notice !!

  • guitar super man- great great song on Against the Grain- Rory made some great music

  • does anyone know what that little thing on the lower end of the bridge is? does it pick up the treble strings or something?

  • the guitar mic- for amplification

  • It's a pickup. Since older acousitc guitars doesn't have built-in pickups at the bridge, you have to either mic them or stick a pickup on.

A lot of new acoustics have pickups in the body of the guitar, but to be honest, I think even the better ones sound like garbage.

  • Awesome guitar player! Just as amazing as is playing though, is the sheer look of joy and passion you can see in his eyes as he plays his heart out -- priceless! :)

  • actually my favourite version of one of my favourite songs of my absolutely favourite musician... thanks for sharing!!

  • well said!

  • well, you're pretty much a dumbass... it's spelled Jimmy "Page"- stop posing as a zeppelin fan

  • Rory <3 !

  • this footage of rory gallagher is great. one of the best ive seen, along with a great version of I Could've Had Religion.

bein an irish blues guitarist, this man is one of my greatest influences ever!!

him and S.R.V, those 2 styles of blues are great. listenin to both artists soo much makes it feel like its real and they are different yet still under the general blues genera.

    music is amazing stuff.

  • What a great guy.

We miss him much. God Bless Rory! Slante

  • Deuce kicks ass, easily one of the greatest underated albums of all time

  • lynard skynard were, and still are big gallagher fans, infact they dedicated freebird to rory, the most under rated guitarist of a generation

  • whata cool guy and perhaps the greatest live performer of alltime.roll on roryfest ballyshannon 07..he`s sadly missed

  • the man could play, you fucking know he meant it eh damn shame he died

  • "acroustic"

    hahahah, i love spelling errors

  • actually he spelt it "arcoustic" not "acroustic" siroliver1, it goes to show that u are a hypocrite (hopefully I spelt that one right) for spelling wrong his spelling error

  • martin d 35

  • thankee

  • Rory was a already a professional at age 15- playing and touring with the Fontana Showband until 1965. He quit, at 17, after 2 1/2 years. He did it just for the experience.

  • great , saw rory at the liverpool empire around 1978, brilliant, one of the best guitarists ever, came out with my ears ringing , loved this song though

  • ah , Montreux 1979 .

by far the best version of OOTWP .

  • Have you heard Alvin Youngblood Hart's version from his album 'Big Mama's Door'? More stripped down, but a strong vocal.

  • Can't really put it any better than that.

If anyone's interested, there's an online petition to rename Cork International Airport to Cork Rory Gallagher Airport

    All signatures appreciated.

  • Always loved this tune - thanks for posting the viddy. Rory was a class apart; he had such a wonderful combination of outstanding cratftsmanship and humility. What a rare, rare gem that man was.
