Yeah, fishing is my passion and I do a lot of shark fishing. However, if I have no intention on eating it then I see no point in keeping it. Honestly, I feel like having a published record in fishing doesn't mean much unless it's on a catch and release basis (look at Albert Zertuche, he released his monster Tiger shark and get's just as much recognition as this guy).

The only good shark is a dead shark. If I catch one, I kill it....especially hammerheads. Hammerheads are one of the most vicious sharks in the ocean, just under great whites and tiger sharks. Kill them all or they may kill you..
I want to start off by saying that fishing has been my passion for my entire life, especially shark fishing. This though, is just sad, there is no point to kill an animal like this, the thrilling part of catching a fish like this is the fight, and then seeing the beast when you get it to your boat/shore. There are fewer and fewer sharks of this size out there, and any respectable fisherman who finds them self lucky enough to land an animal like this would leave the damn thing in the ocean.

So yes, some fisherman are ruining the waters, they are the ones I was addressing. And also, I'm a big advocate of using a "Slot" type size limit, in which fish of a certain size (lets say between 36"-42") can be kept, in order to keep populations in a better balance. Don't assume all fisherman are out to kill anything they legally can.

In my area there are some lakes that really are very overpopulated with pike and full of super-skinny 16-26 inch fish. 99% of the pike I catch are released but every now and then i"ll keep a few mediium sized fish to bring home and have a shore lunch of fresh-caught fish, (delicious lol). It amazes me because a LOT of the people around here wouldnt conssider eating pike, but if you can learn to remove all the bones its great!
@AweSomo84 For some reason many people have some notion that pike don't taste good and are too full of bones to be worth eating. In reality they just have an extra strip of bones right under the ribs, and once you get the hang of it they can all be removed with two simple cuts without wasring any meat. It's very mild, white flaky meat, and once deboned you can't beat it and I'd challenge anyone to find something better IMO it's on par with walleye. Do you guys have walleye in the Netherlands?

I want to start off by saying that fishing has been my passion for my entire life, especially shark fishing. This though, is just sad, there is no point to kill an animal like this, the thrilling part of catching a fish like this is the fight, and then seeing the beast when you get it to your boat/shore. There are fewer and fewer sharks of this size out there, and any respectable fisherman who finds them self lucky enough to land an animal like this would leave the damn thing in the ocean.

Perhaps you should stop fishing and see how the number of bigger fish you find increase. It's not only the fact that there are fewer large fish out there, which you are correct, but you must think about WHY that is. Because all the smaller fish you catch prevent anything else from living passed a certain age!

@ChaseSevereWeather Actually I consider myself to be quite a responsible fisherman, and might keep two dozen fish a year, TOTAL. So yes, some fisherman are ruining the waters, they are the ones I was addressing. And also, I'm a big advocate of using a "Slot" type size limit, in which fish of a certain size (lets say between 36"-42") can be kept, in order to keep populations in a better balance. Don't assume all fisherman are out to kill anything they legally can.

I'm looking forward to pulling some up through the ice this winter, theyre a riot to ice-fish for. Man, I bet over where youre from you've seen some huge ones, If I remember right pike over in Europe get much bigger than the U.S. because there are more fatty fish for them to feast on. In my area there are some lakes that really are very overpopulated with pike and full of super-skinny 16-26 inch fish. 99% of the pike I catch are released but every now and then i"ll keep a few mediium sized fish to bring home and have a shore lunch of fresh-caught fish, (delicious lol). It amazes me because a LOT of the people around here wouldnt conssider eating pike, but if you can learn to remove all the bones its great!

@AweSomo84 For some reason many people have some notion that pike don't taste good and are too full of bones to be worth eating. In reality they just have an extra strip of bones right under the ribs, and once you get the hang of it they can all be removed with two simple cuts without wasring any meat. It's very mild, white flaky meat, and once deboned you can't beat it and I'd challenge anyone to find something better IMO it's on par with walleye. Do you guys have walleye in the Netherlands?
