Had a medical recently and my LDL is through the roof, so I'm on (voluntary) porridge breakfasts. Just oats, water and milk. I've always liked it. In the old days we added sugar, but it'd be too sweet for my modern taste.
I've tried other supermarket brands, and they all have an unfavorable odor. Quaker is not only a brand, it's also superior to whatever else is out there.
you're pretty funny man. Quaker is just a name brand there is nothing special about quaker oats it is just a little more expensive because of the name.
I never even knew about oat groats. One question, I like my oatmeal a bit more watery (almost like soup viscosity). The oatmeal is still cooked, but has more water. Is it still as healthy?
is it ok to use quakers oats if not what is a better brand but something that you don't have to grind or add water to it and let it sit over night just something you can use easily in the morning
hey i am just wondering about rolled quick oats... the nutrition facts are the same as rolled old fashioned oats but i have heard rolled quick oats have less nutrients.
I buy it from Trader Joes, but I moved so I had to find somewhere else to get it. Put in the rice cooker, with the lid off or else it boils over, and it is an experience. Grains kind of crackling in your mouth. Very good with plain yogurt and some fruit.
I just want everyone to know that you are not doing your food any justice by microwaving it. Its nice that this lady is trying to get you to eat more whole grains but she should know better than to microwave anything!!! As a holistic nutrtionist I can tell you that you absolutely destroy about 73% of all vitamins and minerals found in a food once it has been in teh microwave for a minute. Putting healthy foods in the microwave is a sham, you shoud just eat cardboard.
@TheYesterdaysnews how about the fact that vegetables keep more then 50% more of their vitamins if microwaved then steamed, i think your previous statement is false so if you want to share your tips make a video and dont bash hers she's just trying to be helpful
rolled oats are ten times better with milk (1/2 cup oats, 1 cup milk) takes a bit longer to cook. flavor with a teaspoon of fruit preserves of your choice. very good.
That was some good information on oatmeal. You do really good videos, and your gorgeous... why dont you have your own show yet lol... keep it up i enjoy your recipes.

Hi does anyone know what type of Oats are the lowest in terms of glycemic index value? I googled but get drastically varying results between sites.. peace!
is eating oatmeal for dinner healthy? as in....is there such a thing as "too much of oatmeal"...i'm desperate to lose weight so i've been eating oatmeal for both breakfast and dinner.
Seriously Asians do oats so much better, Most delicious oats I've ever eaten was a bowl of plump steamed oats eaten with a small dollop of homemade fermented dwenjang bean paste somewhere in Korea.
dumbass, oatmeal is not fattening. You can eat it 3 times a day and not worry about getting fat. Get the fuck out of here!! you don't know shit. I bet you have the body of a hippo
Hey man cool down. I did not insult you, so stop that! I know that you can eat oats 3 times a day and you won't get fat, but you have to do sports.
And that's the point most of the people fail. They train no hard enough but they're eating and eating and eating and then they are wondering why they get fat!
So if a person eat just medium size portions of oatmeal a day they will get fat of what about eat it every week like a couple of days of a week for lunch they will get fat? Yes I am talking about w/out exercise
Most people only eat Oatmeal for breakfest. You know, right before you're gonna be active all day, so those carbs are put to good use. Don't spread your stupidity.
Steel cut oats, warm/cook rice cooker, outlet timer, breakfast ready in the morning. 1:3 oats:water. Toss in maple syrup, cane sugar, milk when you wake up. Eat. Fart city.
i eat the rolled oats in milk just like a cereal real chewy but i add cinnamon and brown sugar.. or there great to put in a meal replacement shake.. or just cooked like regular.. sometimes if i microwave them in a bowl they take like 1 mnute flat...and i put flax seed on them that way.. mega fiber and cholesterol reducing.. this is really helped me simce im a weight lifter that likes to stay kinda chunky
Nice tutorial. wtf is up with the first one taking 45 minutes! to cook and the last one taking 2 minutes? lol. Nobody is going to buy the 45 minute one.
I do. Steel cut oats arent cooked beforehand which is why they take so long. But usually though, I usually eat Scottish oatmeal without cooking with some goats milk, now that is good. I eat it at least twice a day.
Seriously, This lady is effin' ACE. I'm glad of people like this giving proper back to basics advice. The more like this on telly giving people ideas for how to cut the crap out of their diets in a workable viable way, the better.
Also, in The Simpsons episode "Kamp Krusty", Bart and some of the other children are forced to eat "Krusty Brand Imitation Gruel" as their only meal, punctuated by the comment "Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference." Martin, who spent the episode in fat camp, later remarked, "Sweet, nourishing gruel!"
Gruel is a colloquial expression of any slop that is of unknown character, e.g. pea soup; soup is derived from sop, the slice of bread which was soaked with broth or thin gruel, The eponymous character asks the master of the workhouse for some more, and is struck a blow to the head for it.
Actually steel cut oats work very well in the microwave. Heat to boiling, remove and let them set overnight (no need to refrigerate). Then reheat in microwave again to boiling, cool, eat. This is the best and by far the easiest way to cook them. I have it down to a science using the same size bowls and measuring oats and water, so I just set the microwave for 4 min. and leave.
1/2 CUP OF OATMEAL IS 150 CAL. Steel cut oats have less moisture and 1/2 cup of those equals 300 cal. Once they are cooked, the volume of 1/2 cup instant or old fashioned oatmeal will be the same as 1/4 cup of steel cut oats after preparation. The package you have has less than 1/2 cup of oats, and probably sugar in there too. These "value added" packages are usually much more expensive than adding your own ingredients (like sugar and cinnamon) to the boxes of 100% oats.
stop eating foods high in fats, salts and sugars, and you'll taste the fine sweets of the grain - it can take you a while (month or 2) if you're used to average American food.
Quick oats tend to have the glue texture. Old-fashioned oats much less so and steel cut oats the least gluey, unless you overcook them of course. They will still be creamy because of the higher fat content though.
Same here, every morning for breakfast. I usually add diced fresh fruit in it also. Always have a fruitsallad in the fridge, no sugar added ofc. Oatmeal is great for keeping you feeling full for a long time. The kind I use is the third one shown in the video but with extra fiber. Not sure what the english name of it would be(I'm swede) but they are kinda darkish brown in colour. Tastes great, better then the regular version that is lighter in colour.
Had a medical recently and my LDL is through the roof, so I'm on (voluntary) porridge breakfasts. Just oats, water and milk. I've always liked it. In the old days we added sugar, but it'd be too sweet for my modern taste.

IDK I went to the Store and checked out the nutritional info on the little instant packets and the instant packets had
138cals -- What surprised me is that I then saw the quick oats and it turned out that 1/2 cup of them has 152cals...I got confused.

The trouble is that for some of us, oatmeal tastes like glue.
The steel cut oats are better, but rolled outs are worse than eating paste. Blech!
Now oatmeal cookies have potential. I think oatmeal is better as an ingredient than it is as a food on it's own.
