it's not really an easter egg, you would know this if you had the universal dock. if you have the universal dock and change the volume when you are on the home screen, that image pops up.

This feature is actually available on the iPhone, so its just a software bugs where they've not removed it from the iPod Touch firmware.

Actually I've found what that volume overlay is used for. When you have one of those mini iPod speaker setups with the docking bay, if it has volume buttons on the setup they will trigger the volume overlay. So my guess is that they left it in there for 3rd-party accessories like that.

this is probaly a stupid question but if you jailbrake your ipod and it gets broke like this guys or it want go off the apple sighn and you take it back to were you got it, will they fix it because you jailbroke it.

p.s i already tried to restore it many times and it always said that there was an unknown problem and wouldnt let me restore

hold power and home for like 15 seconds until itunes icon shows up. restore. use indepednance if on mac to kick it out of dfu mode. it will give you an error when you restore.

They took the OS from the iPhone which does that volume icon when you use the volume buttons on the side or when the volume is changed on another screen other than the ipod. All they did was take out most proograms and phone features, change the dock, and kept all the ipod controls. It does that on the iPhone so they most likely just took it from the iPhones and NOT the Mac OSX

it was just a thought that came to my mind saying that it's almost exactly the same on a mac. and now that i think of it the iphone's and touchs' run on a ARM processor, OS X doesn't support ARM processors.

But what i'm pretty sure will happen in the future of iPod Touchs' is that they are gonna have physical volume buttons. If this glitch isn't possible to do on the factory firmware, then this is most probably true. This overlay might have to do with changing the volume with the buttons.

its from the iphone. apple used the iphone's operating system and just stripped it of the phone, maps, weather, and stocks part. on the iphone, you use the volume buttons to adjust the volume. when you do that, the black volume popup comes up on the screen. also, if you connect your touch to speakers and adjust the volume with a remote, that black popup will come up and actually work with the remote.

i agree about the iphone but the iPod Touch doesn't have a silent button (since it doesn't need one). and also if that was there on purpose, it would have to be a lot easier to get too, and should have a specific purpose. why would you need a volume overlay to tell you the volume when you set the volume slider right there? This kinda thing would be useful if the iPod Touch had the physical volume buttons. wait, this is a sign that apple is making touches with physical volume buttons!

no, if you see the video it shows a volume overlay similar to the mac's. maybe apple forgot to strip this feature off the "slim" version of OSX running on the iPhone's and iPod Touch's.
