  • The style is JAZZ FUNK

  • Why don't you all stop playing this sad game of "I am such a dancer b/c i know what style this is or isn't", and watch the damn video. There's 2 very taleneted people doing their thing...who cares if it's hip-hop or not!

  • It's not contemporary.

  • Its called contemporary dance

  • what kind of style is this? it's not hip hop...what is it pop/jazz or something?

  • @WeronikaHope you idiot ... It's STREET JAZZ

  • that's ballet not hip-hop, E for effort though...

  • Commercial Jazz

  • i love lauren

  • It's dancing and it's fun! Love Brian and Lauren! :)))

  • That's Hip Hop?

  • @biomechomegapsi i have no idea

  • @biomechomegapsi hell no lol that was more jazz

  • street jazz ===¿¿¿???

  • that was beautiful

  • it looked like a Sonya piece

  • what is this song called?

  • Glow by Nelly Futardo

  • brian is so much stronger

  • @ekosh1911 > Uh duh...it's Brian Friedman silly! lol

  • no...nice try though.....it's Brian!

If this was Bobby Newberry there would be more hip shackin' and poppin' and sassy walkin', and I think we all know that.

  • Whats this song?

  • felt more of a hip hop jazz feel compared to a full hip hop feel nice triple pirouetee just now from the guy

  • monster of jazz ...not hip hop

  • um... i'm thinking both actually.

  • actually its like hip hop jazz then contemporary...lol

  • wooow xd

  • i cracked up when Dude said "Yeeeeessth!"

oh yeah. 'n that was sweeeet.

  • hahaha

  • hip-hemporary at its BEST!

    LOVE Brian and Lauren!

  • awesome, but i felt it was more jazz than hiphop.

  • wanting new friends

    great vid kD

  • gosh, brian is so fast!!

  • love them... theyre so nice

  • f0rreall, I agree with you. Not just the dancing, but the way they walk too! 0.0"

  • its a mix between contemporary an hip hop u artard

  • awesome choreography, but not hiphop.. friedman's ridiculously awesome, but a monster of hiphop--- No!

  • maybe the best dance i have ever seen!!! absolutely amazing. Brian kills it...as usual!

  • when brian dances it reminds me of blake and vice versa..

    they're both awesome !

  • He is faster

  • plleease give me a name this song!!! :(

  • Glow-Nelly Furtado

  • what's the name this song????

  • Damn! I wish I could do piruettes like that

  • o man that lauryn one of the contestants from last year she was ok she really came into her own towards the end wades piece woke her up.

  • he clearly out danced her.....but its brian..i would be honored to dance in the same building as him

  • Brian is absolutely amazing, I can't get over it..

  • If your memories are greater than your imagination your already dead. Until then all noninfluential walking dead wanna be influencers remain mute, and pay homage to the hungry and determined innovators like Mr. Freidman and the no names like myself and many others.

  • Hip Hop and Jazz are the same thing a culmination of techniques of the past and ingenuity of the individual. Both are different time periods and the dancing of both reflect and correlate with the music of the time. Thank you Mr. Freidman for your ingenuity that pushes us forward and also helps us remember the blueprints of the past.

  • this isn't completely hip hop because it has jazz elements but thats not a bad thing because this is very creative. brian is a genius and good thing he picked lauren because she killed it.

  • he ttly owned but hey, lauren really nailed this to the freaken wall..

  • I keep coming back to this clip for choreography inspiration, even though I generally stick to ethnic dance (flamenco, raqs sharqi, classical indian, etc). AMAZING!

  • lauren is my HEROOOO

  • Why not spend your time debating over something with a purpose like world hunger, global warming, or politics? Just an idea... To all the people who don't understand what this video is about, it is a showcase where we can go on stage and express ourselves how we see fit. I felt like twirling, and maybe inspiring hip hop dancers to step into other fields like I did.

  • hey... Brian Friedman here. I never realized that people actually spend time commenting on these videos... I can understand if you want to comment because you were inspired and they brought you joy, but all the negativity seems like a waste of time.

  • Use the negativity as inspiration for urself. So that they can shut the fuck-up.

  • i love Brian Friedman.

  • What is monsters of hiphop? Is this like a dance convention? Let me know about this.:D

  • i agree that their similar BUT

    NOT the same

  • These dance conventions feed right to their target audience using these kinds of choreographers....today EVERYONE wants to be "HIP HOP" thats just whats "cool" before hip hop there was Jazz and thats just what people did So I don't agree with the label of people thinking this guy is a "hip hop" dancer because surely i know that he wouldn't tell people he is.

  • dvsmind33, He's both a HIP HOP AND JAZZ dancer.

Their both similar in many ways.

  • well I agree with Kinetic84

  • look up on it brian choreographs hip hop routines really good hip hop routines. their are all different versions of hip hop. it doesnt have to be the hard hitting shit all the time. he's eclectic. he does everything. not every hip hop choreographer just has to do hip hop.

  • lauren is coming to my studio!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Babu 92: I never said I want "everything to be ol skool," my friend. A dance foundation is a dance foundation.Yes, hip hop dance continues to evolve, but not with the help of people like Brian Friedman...This man is a jazz dancer..and a DAMN GOOD ONE. I am not knocking his talent in that arena, but he is NOT a hip hop dancer, does not come from the culture from which it emerged, and as a consequence is in no posiiton to innovate the style.

  • I assume this response is for me. So, first off: no, I have never seen dave scott or shane sparks teach a jazz class. I am not sure what that has to do with anything because I never criticized those guys for being bad jazz dancers...second of all what is your overall point?

  • i love this video. whats the name of this song?

  • glow by nelly furtado

  • my trainer is her room mate..bitchesssss

  • jazz

  • WOW!! GOOD CLIP!!

  • Xcuse me Lauren from So You Think U Can Dance is not a bad dancer! & she isnt dum!

  • sorry you feel that way because Lauren Gottlieb happens to be one of the most established dancers in the business right now, especially after making it to the top 6 on SYTYCD. Her career is on the fast track, she is by no means dumb and she basically killed this combo!

  • shes a great dancer but i didnt like her much. i think she out dance brian.

  • ur pathetic.u makes me laugh.

    =)

  • that was cool, but was not hip hop...

  • en pointe? no they're not!

  • ok, sorry, not en pointe, but their feet aren't flat either.

  • hip hop..??

  • yeah its more on the lyrical/ contemporary based side of hip hop.

  • jazz

  • ah yes, my two favorite dancers in one vid. greatness :)

  • I agree that ^_^

  • awesome

  • whos on camera or saying yes?

  • That would be me.

  • THATS NOT EVEN HIP HOP DANCE

  • Don't get mad at this guy for stating the obvious. Brian friedman and Lauren gottlieb ARE [jazz]/hip hop dancers, and this is a jazz dance... don't deny it. I mean, their en pointe for most of the dance. It's not a bad thing.

  • nice one relly cool!!!!

  • I love that guy screaming "YESsss!" while they were dancing. I love Lauren.

  • Brian Rulez :D

  • do you know the artist and name of that song?

  • Wow Brian completely outshined Lauren there.

  • Some people might say Matthew Bourne's work isn't really ballet, just because it's contemporary and isn't your typical, classical ballet, who's to say that Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker! is any less of a ballet than the original version of The Nutcracker, in exactly the same way that people can't try to say that this isn't passable as hip hop. It's not old school hip hop, so what? it's new, inspired, technical, challenging, sophisticated, commercial hip hop, and it's beautiful to watch, period.

  • That was amazing, i do not get all of you people trying to criticise this saying it isnt hip hop! You can't pigeon-hole commercial dance nowadays...it has evolved, hip hop now is much more than just hip hop.

  • I never knew how many people resonded to things like this. I feel sad for people who try to break down any art form. Creativity is a beautiful thing and should never be denied. This was a hip hop event, and in the showcase my goal is to inspire at least 1 hip hop dancer to broaden their skills the same way I inspire technically trained dancers to cross over to hip hop. 1 world, 1 love, 1 dance.. to all the haters out there, Grow up, please... B FREE: Brian Friedman

  • lolz

    bakla

    hhahaha

  • wow

  • lauren is amazing and anyone who htinks otherwise doesnt know much about dance.

  • You guys are so good.Great job

  • luvz it!!!!!wow!!!!!lauren u go girl!!!!! nd brian amazing as usual!!

  • he nearly kicked her in the face haha

  • That was more like contemporary/lyrical.

  • Brian is the best dancer everrr =)

he is also amazing the song is great too =)

  • you guys all sound like immature idiots. brian is one of the BEST dancers/choreogaphers out there and that is that. he can do any style and rock the shit out of it.

  • BRIAN FRIEDMAN IS AMAZING HEHE!!

  • awesome !!!

  • go lauren <3 so sad she got kicked off the show b/c she was awesome. unfortunate that the schwimmer fanbase controls this show.

  • Lacey Schwimmer didn't win the show in the end. She came in forth.

  • I meant the family's fanbase controlled the show up until the finale. And Lacey didn't necessarily come in 4th, they didn't specify the order. It doesn't matter now though, go Lacey and Lauren!

  • Nigel revealed that, that was the order ^^

  • i love brian friendman he's the best!

  • LAUREN GOTTLEIB IS THE BEST!! shes famous here in the dancing community in norway:D hehe. we love you!

  • and anyways, take a break. its just a video. no need to get all defensive about a video now shall we, when there are much greater issues at hand other than if brian dances hip hop, arent there? (aids, poverty, etc)

  • to all of you who are saying this isnt hip hop (especially kinetic84).. thats fine-but he didnt teach this. i should know-i was there. he taught a completely different dance

  • but wasnt the whole begining the same??

  • not at all

  • I can do without Lauren, but Brian is definitely no joke.

  • y is every1 writin so much there like paragraphs

  • this may have been asked before but does anyone know the song?

  • glow by nelly furtado

  • one can mix different styles together, there is nothing wrong with that, but do not teach jazz and call it hip hop to make money, it is immoral!period! call fusion...or here is an idea, call what it is...street jazz!

  • btw dancingkatie: before you debate me try educating yourself on the history of hip hop dance! Hip-hop is social dancing, not studio jazz!! I am not saying he is a bad dancer or even a bad choreographer, I am however saying he is not a hip-hop dancer and monsters of hip-hop is not a hip-hop dance convention; what they teach is street jazz which originates from califronia(where Brain friedman went to train, fyi)

  • response to dancingkatie and 102704: if you want to see real hip hop dancers go to rocskteadycrew,eliteforcecrew,rhpm...Brian is not a hip hop dancer, he is a jazz dancer. hip hop dance has always been "interesting and fresh," and is today what it has always been "african american" social dancing. You want footage of real hip-hop dancers, sure, stay on youtube and look for respond to sound which is a history of african american freestyle dances including hip hop

  • response to 102704 and dancinkatie916: george bush is known the world over yet he is the worst president(according to the job description) in history, so Brian, shane, and whomever being known around the world is irrelevant to the level or lack thereof of talent...if having the entire world know you is a precursor to being good then all those "bad" auditionees on sytycd are great dancers-0)!

  • It's Lauren! I love lauren! I hope she wins SYTYCD S3!!

  • this man is fierce....i dont care what anyone says...this boy can dance

  • exactly.

  • Brian Friedman is possibly one of the most brilliant choreographers of our time. please PLEASE show me some videos of your "true hip-hop dancing" that is better than shane sparks, brian friedman, and the other hip-hop choreographers that are known around the world for their dancing! hip-hop has always had different versions within the genre of dance and to say that this and other pieces of work are not hip-hop and they are destroying the "specificity of the culture" makes me giggle

  • do you like wade robnson?

  • and he dances hip hop professionally

  • its just a showcase.

and they are showcasing what they do best.

and brian can teach hip hop cause hes knows hip hop.

  • People like Brian Friedman, Shane Sparks, Dave Scott, and entities like Monsters of hip-hop do the culture a great diservice when they teach jazz under the banner of hip-hop; it stops us real hip-hop dancers(who do african -american social dancing...what hip-hop is and has always been) and destroys the specificity of the culture!!! Shame, shame, shame on you all!!!

  • All three of those choreographers are amazing at what they do. They are great hip hop choreographers and sayin g that what the do is a "great diservice" to the culture is pretty ridiculous. They infuse different styles into hip hop, jazz for example, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's what keeps the choreography new, fresh, and interesting, and I'm sure many people would agree with me.

  • Have you ever seen Dave Scott or Shane Sparks teach a jazz class... ever.

And if people never changed or added something to a style of dance, we would have never had krumping, or probably hip hop, since hip hop is derived from african dances. So before you want everything to be old school (Not that old school is bad, I do like it.) think of the styles of dance that created it.

  • THIS IS NOT HIP-HOP!!!! This is street Jazz!!! How dare Brian Friedman showcase this stly at an event called "Monsters of Hip-hop." Complete and utter disrespect to the culture.

  • That was not Hip Hop...that was funk jazz.

  • its nelly furtado glow

  • hey does anyone kno what song this is and who sings it?????

  • whats the professional name for the turns?? juz turns?, lol

  • nelly furtado- glow

  • brian is really the bomb!!! he is the shit y'all!!! he is so damn amazin...sizzlin' hot moves....

  • I LOVE YOU BRIAN!

  • Hopefully the fundamentals taught by Poppin Pete, Mr. Wiggles, and Pop (who I believe are also on the Monsters of Hip Hop tour) is truly. Poppin Pete said to me after Monsters of Hip Hop: The Show in August "the state of hip hop dance is sad," with a sad glimmer in his eye. Hip Hop is NOT dead, but it is up to us to make sure we keep it alive in a way the founders would be proud of. I know Brian cares about the future of dance so I would think this was the message.

    5th Element: A revolution

  • Amazing. Brian is my favorite choreographer. I would love to learn from him (Santa Clara?).

The piece, though, bears not the slightest resemblance to hip-hop (in terms of music, technique, and style), so I hope it doesn't get misinterpreted that way (locking performed at a ballet convention would not be called ballet). It should be said that this is a showcase of Brian's ability, not as an example of hip hop.

    5th Element: A revolution...

  • where can i get this remix?

  • the chick dancin wit brian is lauren gottlieb :)

  • WORK Brian WORK!!!
