John Carpenters "The thing" is a classic horror film. I have watched it numerous times and it still holds up. The tension just goes to 11 due to:

1 - Super cold environment where you can't survive (mother nature as monster!)

2 - Psychological 10 little Indians themes of trust

3 - Embodies fear of fatal diseases

4 - The thing can be anywhere and anything (paranoia to the max)

5 - The music is incredibly tense and creepy

And Kurt Russell's hat steals one scene and his beard steals the rest
