Nancy Ames Is the real thing...the only thing wrong with these performances is that it seems she's not singing in the right key for her voice. If you ever hear her Latin or Brazillian albums, this girl has great pipes, great style - and don't forget the great hear. I keep hoping someone will post something from the 1969 Trini Lopez Special she was on - they put a soundtrack album out and it is great!
I think seeing the comic side of this only comes with time. At the time, I am sure this performance would have been judged more harshly. But with time, we can look back and smile at what to its contemporary audience would have seemed annoying or lacking in taste.
This number applies an inappropriate style to the material. It ignores the idiom in which the song was written. This is most noticable in the Beatles, song the others also find their style flattened and wedged into chosen style. The effect is comic, because it brings together disparate styles of the period in one place and dramatized the gulf between them.
@seanbagleyus Very good points you make...

She was a much better singer than I remembered her to be.

Humpy's overbite that he has mentioned was so bad when he was a kid, was still somewhat noticeable in those days.

She is hysterically funny. Have these songs ever had such uninflected, unidiomatic readings ever?
