  • "Hardest material on Earth" No there not lmao Graphene is.

  • very very nice. We cant talk to me?

  • I wish we could take the carbon from our air and make it into diamonds.

  • @Ticomfreak We can. Taking carbon from the air is rather pointless and wastes a ton of energy (thus more carbon into the air). It only takes a 1 year to make a flawless 1/2 karat diamond that can't be distinguished from natural diamonds. You can have a portion of your ashes when you are cremated turned into a diamond if you want. It costs about $8,000 and they can make any color diamond you want.

  • Once again an USA is the worst.. Buys diamonds without thinking just as europe. But apparently american are a bit worser

  • GOOD makes some awesome informative videos...

  • informational. cool video. i enjoyed it :) i don't agree with owning them but it is what it is. nice mini science lesson tho.

blood diamond is a crazy movie.

  • Diamonds are basically worthless. The only reason that they have any worth is DeBeers restricts supply.

Now they can be made in the lab using chemical vapor deposition, and these artificial diamonds are totally flawless, which is why DeBeers is putting serial numbers on diamonds so you know you have an "authentic" diamond.

    It's just carbon.

  • @fuzzywzhe Wow. You see, that I didn't know.

  • @fuzzywzhe Diamond only has practical use when cutting things. It's the hardest naturally occurring material on earth. And you're right that artificial diamonds can be used instead, and they're just as good. Things like cubic zircon should replace diamond in jewelery.

  • i dont really get it but the video was cool.

  • Moissanite's the best alternative solution to diamonds. It comes from meteorites from space and is shinier then the played out diamond. It also doesn't cause diemond wars.

  • whats so great about diamonds? I would throw them away immediately. even if I paid for them.

  • Thanks for nothing Good, you forgot to say that DeBeers controls the diamond industry and has huge stockpiles of them, artificially inflating their price.

  • same happens with gold

  • Lolz

  • I've always said I'd never wear a diamond.

  • why?

  • Because they symbolize greed to me.

  • why stop there?

    money can symbolize greed too

so cany anything else that represents a person as wealthy

  • you guys forgot all the blood that stains diamonds too and how de beers actually influences african wars to control its sources

  • why blaming de beers for african wars? why dont you blaim microsoft for the congo conflict due to coltan? or nestle for cocoa slavery in ivory coast? they only do bussiness. wars and peacekeeping arent on their menu.

  • According to Bullshit by Penn and Teller, there's enough diamonds on the planet for EVERYONE to have at least a carat.

We owe our overpriced diamonds to a few very big assholes.

  • Children get $1 a day but grown ups sometimes get less than that. Glad we were all born out of good love!

  • i love the creative direction of this piece

  • diamonds are one of the most common gems. so common they should be completely worthless in jewelry. not to mention the fact they can be manufactured. they are boring... stop buying them

  • I despise the use of precious gems for decoration. It's such a shameful waste of power for something so trivial and it's so offensive to the poor that labor to yield it.

  • Child Labour is the whole reason I refuse to wear/buy/accept diamonds.

My wedding band & engagement ring will be crafted by US independant craftsmen, using recycled, eco-friendly materials and methods.

  • for once I actually knew all this. A girl in my class did a presentation and video on her going into stores asking if they were legit diamonds. she got kicked out of a few big names. Funny, scary. Good job yet again ;o

  • Cubic zirconia looks exactly like diamond but is a lot cheaper and does not come with the guilt of exploiting kids in Africa.

  • The way these videos are presented is freaking awesome. Pretty light information but interesting nonetheless.

  • ty GOOD for making me a little less dumb

  • Break up DeBeers. They have a strangehold on the market and are driving up prices. Diamonds should be much cheeper.

  • No, Africa and its people ought to get a decent living from mining them. Even if you broke up DeBeers, would that make them cheaper, and still provide a decent life for the people that pull them from the ground.? I doubt it.

  • Which is why everyone should be artificial, lab-created diamonds.

  • or... not use commercial items to symbolize love...

  • It'd be beautiful if everyone thought that way, but we're material creatures that can't yet read each other's minds, so often times we ask for a physical representation of what's on our minds.

  • symbols have always been around. instead of trying to stop people from doing something that is in our nature, how about just trying to get people to run their businesses properly and ethically, or supporting the businesses that do things right?

  • ratkins2323 made the most sensible comment here. It's not diamonds that are evil, only the unethical business practices. It's not wrong to like diamonds.

  • i agree i like diamonds. but i won't support such a corrupt industry.

  • Great clip!

  • Why not ask gov. to close the borders to this crap like we do for other questionnable goods?

  • Tried to explain this to my GF last time she brought up diamonds and engagement rings. Of course she just assumed I was being a cheapskate.

    A) Expressing love for someone has NOTHING to do with the size of the rock you can put on her finger.

    B) Diamonds (just like oil and other precious materials) fund some of the world's most violent and pointless wars.

  • if you ever do propose why don't you get her something that means just as much. i love golden and rainbow obsidian. i'd be happy to show that off. bottom line if a diamond can't do it find something that will.

  • @dmoore714 Marketing and advertising are very powerful tools. This is but one of the sad effects it has on society.

  • @dmoore714 a diamond ring is/was suppose to be the insurance policy a girl/wife has over the boyfriend/husband, if the male were to cheat or unjustifiably cheat on his female companion. The diamond ring would serve as compensation for the time lost with the other person. And it has other values and uses also.

  • Very disturbing. We live in such an unfair world...

  • GOOD Magazine.....please do some GOOD and make a video about HEMP the most useful plant in the world!

  • Don't ever buy diamonds. Debeers is like the mafia without the worry of a crackdown.

  • beautifully made short,

therefore the film spares us from an imagery dissection the horrid practices behind the trade... but we all know about that,

how can we have the precious stones without imploring the terroristic methods of mining?

increase the wealth to those it belongs to,

and stop making the wrong people rich.

I think Obama would try to balance it out if he could, in a reasonable way...

  • LOL... Obama this Obama that.

He doesn't keep his own Promises.

BTW I did vote for him.

Sorry to say he probably gets a scratch on his back from that Country.

  • The crap do people need diamonds for? They don't do anything.

  • they get some ppl laid, and other to say "yes".

  • so that you'll know how much richer they are than you

  • Well it's useful in the industry and researrch area but other than that.... The commoners just use it to impress....

  • That settles it. I'LL NEVER BUY JEWELRY EVER EVER EVER.

We're all a bunch of narcissistic materialists (modern version of the word, not the cool philosophical kind).

    Good job there GOOD!

  • Another well done Good movie :P

  • blood diamond (film) sounds quite accurate then.

  • Indeed - watched it recently and I believe it's really a pity that some people value a little shiny stone more than the lifes lost during the diamond conflicts.

  • cool.

  • very nice.
