  • she didn't fit any category because she could sing anything and for the most part black radio thought she was too white for black radio but they had to play her because she was so big. Bruce springsteen wrote "protection" for her donna album it was a duet actually but became a solo for that album.I guess if bruce was on it then it would have given her her rock and roll credibility in your eyes. "i feel love" according to Rolling stones is one of the most influential songs in rock history

  • Does Cathy know about this video? This is the first time I've seen it!

  • She has always been a great combo of rock and soul.

  • @badpappy shes famous for disco and that is all

  • she is "better known" for her dance music; however, she also has grammy awards in rock-n-roll and gospel categories; and an Oscar for best song in a film. She is also a very well respected song writer in the music industry and an excellent business woman. Being "best known" for something doesn't mean they aren't known at all for anything else. That holds true for just about everyone who is successful.

  • all true and i do not question her talent. mostly i question her induction in the rock hall...but as you know their putting rap artist in now along with hip hop crap. so really my contention is the rock hall is shit. i dont care how talented you are or succesfull if it aint rock you dont belong in the rock hall of fame...thats what they got the grammys for or the BET awards.

  • WOE... so you would be okay if she got a BET award? Why? Because she is black? Hummmm. Yikes.

  • @SWSimpson you got to be kidding, really? you tossing the race card at me? reread my statement. ok lets play..who do you think should be in the rock hall...rush or donna summer? on a pure rock & roll basis. and do you think whitney huston should be inducted also. same kinda music as donna...if you thinks so..then maybe led zeppelin should be in the bet life time awards just based on their blues roots....is this rascist?

  • Look at those dancer on the right - LOL!:)

  • How can this show have been aired in 1980 if this song came out in 1991?

  • The Title just states that Donna was the Winner of that Grammy award aired in 1980, The clip is from 91-92. The clip just shows some of the Rock additude that was not aired back in 1980 award show.

  • It was the first time they had the category.

Pat Benatar would go on to win the next consecutive four years and then Tina Turner.

  • Yes, I believe it was the 1st year that Grammy Award was honored. I dont think it was even aired. There use to be a site that gave all Grammy nominees for the last 25 years. I will try to find it. I remember Pat sweeping that award for the next few years. I also think Donna was contender for that same award in 1981.

  • Is she the first African-American woman to win in that category?

  • she was also the first person ever to win 1979 was the first year they had this catagory and she won with the song Hot Stuff and not with this song this song was from her 1991 CD Mistaken Identity the song and album was not a hit......nor was it or any of the songs nominated for a any grammies.

  • The nominees were actually:

    Cindy Bullens - "Survivor"

Rickie Lee Jones - "The Last Chance Texaco"

Bonnie Raitt - "You're Gonna Get What's Coming"

    Carly Simon - "Vengeance"

    Tanya Tucker - TNT

  • Sorry the show was air 1980, but the Grammy was for 1979; Bonnie Raitt, Pat Benatar, and Carly Simon were among the nominees announced for Best Rock Performance, Female, at the 1979 Grammy Awards, Along with Donna Summer's win.
