I have to say, I also have never considered ZUN art "Bad." Some of the drawings can be a little awkward at times, yes, but otherwise everything is very colorful and detailed. I can look past a few quirks in drawing, and it looks just fine to me. Even in the PC-98 era.

And the graphics in Touhou other then art is undoubtedly amazing. PC-98 games were restricted by hardware and EoSD wasn't outstanding, but I found PCB and onwards to be absolutely beautiful in backgrounds. MoF and on especially.

ZUN art is not your flamboyant Gonzo/Sunrise/Kyoani vectorized computer edited images running at 120fps, but rather something more human, more personal, that's the key difference, ZUN art is not the anime industrial product result of an extensive marketing research program but more like a handicraft, something made for the joy to be done, like when someone creates their own art in the back of a school notebook.

Not as good as a professional manga-ka, but it has a certain charm to it. He has also been getting much better if you look at the games in chronological order. Also, if you look at some of the other people who do the same thing, their art is even worse...)

It's easy to draw Zun art, all you have to do is follow 3 steps:

1) Google "Doll costume" for reference

2) draw a doll costume on your mind. Don't forget the silly hat

3) avoid drawing hands and arms. otherwise, they're just tubes with tiny hotdogs

SA had great in-game graphics, but the character art wasn't that great. But it was a step up from MoF's art.

But UFO.. It's like, what the hell happened? Every stage so far has had new bullet types AND the character art is GREAT. Hopefully it will stay like that from Touhou 13(if there is one)

Though Kanako's theme isn't my favorite final boss theme, this is definitely my favorite stage 6 theme. When you surface in the air surrounded by wood pillars with gohei hanging from them, its just really cool. The stage fits Kanako really well.
