I would have to put her as no.1 jazz singer... although Billie Holliday, Ella, Nancy Wilson, Chris Connor and others were amazing. She sings like a tenor player... well, she married Bob Cooper... lol. I got to work a bit with Anita O'Day and she was great until later years. More June!
Definately an originator! She was great and one of my favorites, right after Anita O'Day!We difinately need more vidoes of the stunning and talented June!
I have always been her number one fan from the very intro of her by Kenton in Evansville, In 1945.
I've been aware of her drinking problem and it has left me saddened. Such a great talent.
I was a deejay for a number of years and gave her a lot of air play.
l think often times she had to fight some of the more exotic arrangements of Rugulo.. Something a singer should never have to do but her lack of self confidence would not let her say NO. She is sorely missed.
Gee Charlie, that was sure swell to hear you gave June a lot of airplay. June was a real doll, and I agree, sorely missed, and in life under appreciated! Some of those Rugulo arrangements are a tad busy, but I still like her work with Pete.
Ever since I discovered Miss Lee Morse here on YouTube, I've found myself seeking out other 'songbirds' as well, and June Christy is a really great singer, isn't she?
One of the all time best Jazz vocalists. Up there with Ella,Sarah,as well as Connie Boswell, and Lee Wiley. Dinah Washington, and others were also great. Have a great week-end.
Jayee123-Sorry,but I completely forgot to mention Anita O'Day among the very greats. Others come to mind, but I've said quite enough. Have a great week-end.
June often opened her shows with this number; the full-out big band arrangement is spectacular, especially when played by the Kenton Band as on its tours with Christy and the Four Freshmen.
She's one of my favorites. She really shows her Jazz chops in this piece!

Well said. Complex singing for sure, but she makes it seem so easy, and she seems to be so happy to make us happy. A pro.
