if the suspesion spring is too thick it could affect the beat. The most likley cause is ware in the escape wheel and/or Verge pivots.

Thanks for the video. What effect does the suspension spring have on the beat? I have been trying to but my mantle clock in beat, without success. Then the suspension spring was replaced and that drastically improved the swing, but it is still not in beat. The clock stops after an hour or so. Should I experiment with other suspension springs?
