  • paul williams was in there too

  • well according to our giant computers you are a huge nigger, thank you and god bless

  • OMG I wanna see more.Where can I buy the DVD?

  • THE FUNK BROTHERS BABY!!

  • Okay I'll say this: People hate on Ruffin cuz he had an ego the size of Texas, but ya know he could back it up for one and no one hates on his voice or talent or showmanship. He has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. That's just me though. I often wonder what direction the music of the Temps would've taken had he stayed with the group and never messed up. I still prefer the C5 classics to the psychadelic/funk era stuff that gave them grammys and whatnot. I'm a Ruffin fan man. Nuff said :)

  • THE TEMPS WILL NEVER BE REPLACED!

  • Rare footage. I wish someone would compile as much rare footage of the Temps as they can get their hands on and put on DVD!

  • Wow....love this video.... I to see vintage/real footage!!!!

  • SOoooooooooo hard to choose between him and Otis Redding. I'm more of a David Ruffin fan, miles and away, but the only guy who could do the things to a song that David does is Ottis Redding, Michael Jackson, and Mike Patton. David is my all time fav though.

  • Wow! What talent!!!!Luvn' Ruffin

  • THE VOICES.....EDDIE KENDRICKS, DAVID RUFFIN, PAUL WILLIAMS, MELVIN FRANKLIN'S (BIGBASS)

  • Real performers with class who could really sing!

  • What's The Name Of This Song?

  • @thecortezx5 That's "Sorry Is A Sorry Word "

  • I see a couple Collins, RCA, Gates, Pultecs, and that glorious Fairchild! Now that was the Motown SOUND!

  • whats the name of this song plz

  • @GEEKINSTUD sorry is a sorry word

  • @Militarymight101 thanks i've been looking for it a whole yr! i may be young but i love the temptations

  • @jdetanna Damn right hes the best ever

  • Ruffin, Number 1 then, Number 1 always. Greatest lead of all time.

  • From the album" Temptations With A Lot Of Soul, "Two Sides To Love"was my favorite...Man,was Jamerson cool or what ??? Wish that I could have been a fly on the wall lol. ;-). Peace !! StonieDogStl.

  • Having visited Hitsville a few months ago-- this clip just resonates with the talent that was there-- and the best voice of Motown- Mr Ruffin.... such a shame between his demons and likely some jealousy after he left the Tempts- his career was cut shorter than it should have been as a star

  • Wow....were I get more of this..and what the name of this song

  • how can i find more studio recordings like this?even james jamerson in the back

  • I'm the 113th like!!!! WoW I Luv this "MY GUYS " Together in the studio!!! This is RARE!!!

  • I LOVE MOTOWN!

  • How incredible to see rare footage of the original 5 Temps in the studio. One thumbs down?? Really??

  • wooooooooooow

  • Is that really how they recorded? I mean singing live with the musicians like that? Or was it just set up for the camera. Ruffin is totally incredible here.

  • @jasonpfinch it was just for camera

  • @jasonpfinch There was definitely a lot of "live" and one-room recording then. It still gives you a better feel, in my opinion, vs. recording the drum track first with scratch guitar, bass, vox, etc. This type of recording is part of the reason a lot of the rhythm section can sound a bit "smashed" and blurry .... you've got single mics on large parts of the group vs. individual mics on each instrument or each drum.

  • All of them were there! The Classic 5 plus You can see James Jamerson and I think Witherspoon and then Ivy Jo Hunter and Eddie Holland came in.

  • I miss my friends!

  • from 2:06 on you just went to church. close your eyes.. you where there

  • Dem Cats Is Coo! Take it to church!

  • who's the one that place the thumbs down

  • Oh Eddie Kendricks!!! That thang was so fine!!!

  • i wonder wat happened to this version

  • So good to see another clip of James Jamerson

  • Pray that God will deliver us from the lie that naked and looking unsightly is hip and cool. The devil IS a liar. KMMS

  • man this was great. first time i've ever seen them in the studio actually recorded. this film look so fresh like it was recorded this year. this was when music was great and the artist was really singing. thanks for posting this.

  • some good and rare footage ! thanks JIMBOND27

  • this was only filmed for a news special....the motown groups would record over the tracks of the funk brothers

  • Smokey did not produce this song and therefore not in the video...Norman Whitfield actually took over the producing duties from Smokey during the late 60's. The gentleman is definitely not Berry Gordy. He's Brian Holland of the songwriting and production team Holland-Dozier-Holland.

  • I love this it's like a glimpse into the magic

@coolyfett that was one of the holland brothers from writing team HDH

  • Where was Smokie at???? Who was the guy the interrupted the session?

  • @Coolyfett The guy who interrupted is probably Berry Gordy, Motown record producer.

  • @x1te no, that's not Mr. Berry Gordy

  • @Coolyfett Brian Holland--he was the producer of this song.

  • this is gun!!!

  • Thanks for the post. I remember when my sister bought this album. I am going out to get the CD. Again, thanks.

  • Oh my gosh i love this does anyone else have anymore of their in studio time???

  • OMG! does anybody else have anymore of there rin studio videos i would love to see more

  • is it just me or was Eddie Kendricks handsome!!

  • @tmacandi It's not just you--he was very handsome!!!!

  • Aww I love this video it got my baby Paul in here and Daivid awww. I love it.

  • Wasn't feeling this song at first but it grew on me. I like it better with every listen. I think it's because of David. His voice is so wonderful, and it's a real treat to see him at work.

  • What infleunce to the music world the greatest group to ever perform on stage

  • THANK YOU!!! This is GREAT!!!

  • this song sucks...but GREAT video.

  • The boy was an incredible singer! Not the sole responsibility for the success of the temps but damn he sure was a cause!

  • I've played guitar since '67 FYI. I do practice a ton and I pick up lots of things from all this great stuff on Youtube. Sorry to say that I have gotten no insights from your comments, And populating your posts with "F-bombs" is about as boring as it gets, Captain Vocabulary.

  • sund nice this music live for every

  • Snake pit

  • The tune they are rehearsing is "Sorry is A Sorry Word" which was the flipside of "All I Need" from 1967

  • What great voices! ...And Mr. Ruffin...had an amazing voice. They all did.

    Temptations Forever.

  • ruffin be takin folks to church when he sings

  • im not feeling this song!

  • Who is the guy telling the musicians to take it to Letter C...Now it appears he knows music...anybody know his name..also the fella with the dark glasses on swinging his arms ..I would just like to match names with the writers and song producers and vocal coaches..

  • holland an dozier

  • The guy talking is Eddie Holland. Lamont Dozier is on the stairs in the back.

  • @JIMBOND27 I think that's Brian Holland doing the talking.

  • I love how young men dressed like they had some sense back then. They were classy and handsome. I wonder what it would be like to see that now.

  • Back in that time dressin' to impress was just as important as when you hit the stage. 'Not only were the Tempts known for thier percision on stage, but the way they dressed off stage was just as sharp !

  • Ain't that the truth!!!

  • No doubt, I agree with you! Times were different though. Even now that I'm a lil older I feel like I dress to impress! The tempts were always on point with the wardrobe, they were very fashion-coordinated and a chemistry that was unmatched by any other group. That's why we all love them. Long live the Temptations!

  • @zariahnyree they're ll a bunch of crackheads and crackbabies running around with their underwear exposed.

  • this supposedly isn't a real session but is a set up to show how a real session goes...yeah but truth is a lot of producers would say stupis shit like put a little more feeling in it...cuz them shits weren't musicians and weren't trained so they didn't know how to say play a dominat 7th chord instead of a major 7th..they would say stupid shit that didn't mean anything to a musican and the musician would still have to figure out what to play according to his own musical understanding

  • Hate when Holland comes out and interrupts.

  • 4real...me too...'specially since he didn't have shit to say of any substance..."the guitar I wish y'all could give a little better feel on that guitar part there"...what the fuck does THAT mean?...typical non-musician speak..."and the piano give a little more emphesis on that bass part there".Huh?...you already got a bass player there who can play a LITTLE BIT...guy named Jamerson...remember him? let HIM put the emphesis on the bass part...while you stay your ass in the CONTROL ROOM...jeez

  • If you check the article link on the right, it says this wasnt a real session. They just did this for the a news crew camera. And you really need to shut the fuc# up trying to talk sh!t about Eddie Holland though lol

  • @JIMBOND27 ...who is Eddie Holland...Yo daddy? F...You

  • @sonwamac How did your guess? And Motown certainly is my era, my inarticulate friend. I just sound younger than I am.

  • @jimifan you're boring..shut up...do you play an instrument?...go practice your ax. Do something constructive

  • @JIMBOND27 lol...u guys r killing me! lol

  • @sonwamac ANYBODY who know ANYTHING about Motown certainly knows the absolute musical genius of Holland/Dozier/Holland. Period. If his comments strike you as "typical non-musician" you might consider this was a "staged" recording session for the cameras and PERHAPS not accurate!!

  • @jimifan ..I know plenty about the history of Motown..its from my generation...what the fuck do you know about music?...You Hack

  • @sonwamac But you didn't know who Eddie Holland is? And FYI the bass part he was talking about was for the piano player...

  • Check the cute chick playin' congas...probably an apiring singer who tok an opportunity to do ANYTHING just to get in on a session...or maybe she's actually a percussionist as her main axe....that's Motown for ya...everything unorthodox but mainstream at the same time

  • even david and marvin gaye played drums for other acts...had to b a great experience either way, like being a part of a great concert lol.

  • The female is percussionist Bobbye Hall.

  • they had no idea how they (motown) were changing the entire landscape of music back then. wow what an impact they had! berry, smokey, HDH, funk brothers, cholly atkins, stevie, marvin and the rest of the family, they all played a great part in what would become the greatest music empire of all time! thanks for posting. God bless!

  • You can tell that this is when the Temps truly stuck together. Yes, younger and healthy. But that is what life dose and will do to you and the rest of as. In the1987 concert David and Eddie where still very good looking men. The drugs and cig's that effected their live was a personal thing. Which we all have. Love them both and wish they where still here.

  • wow they're great ! Also black men back in the 60's was so much more handsome and clean cut. I love the way they were dressed (colorful suits)

  • dis is on dat temptation dvd i got u can buy it n store rite now its da temptations performes frm 1965-1972 go buy it

  • Love it!! This a rare treat!!

  • I can dig it!

  • David had a wonderful voice along with The Temptations thanks.

  • more more more, and look at thequality.....where is the rest of this?

  • If you havent seen the live version of "What's Going On" with Jamerson... make sure you check it out! I posted it as a video response.

  • david looks very healthy, I guess it was before the drugs. this is truly a great film clip. thank you

  • Actually i think he already started doin drugs at this time :(

  • I found a pic in B&W of David frm this session...Paul and Eddie lookin all cute lol too bad the mic is blockin Paul's face for most of the vid

  • Thank you for upload..just priceless!!!

  • This is truly a rare gem.

  • I can't beleive what I'm seeing ! I LOVE IT - so glad to see my Eddie live - I do love them all, but Eddie have my heart.

  • is that studio A ? cause i thought it would be smaller

  • OMG!! I could just hug you for this LOL! I really enjoyed this video. TEMPTATIONS FOREVER!!!
