The narrator's description isn't quite describing the flaps decision correctly. He knew a lesser flap setting would make the plane glide better. What the pilot was worried about is that the *transition* from full flaps to partial flaps involves a short initial drop before the new glide slope is achieved. If they were higher up there would be no question that was the right thing to do to glide further. His worry was whether or not they were too low to handle that initial drop.
Can someone that knows about flying explain to me why the Pilots did not immediately retract the landing gear and the flaps when they relised that the engines were lost in order to gain enough height to reach the runway?! Or was the time so short there just was not enough time....
@DanSweden101 I think they just werent conintrated on the landing gear they were focused on powering the engins they should have worriede about that but they just werent focused on it
@schlumbucket yea, hot woman, I'd like to crash land with her on a remote place and stay unconscious so she gives me a long mouth to mouth resuscitation

If this explanation is correct, why did it not happen in more aircraft?
Isn't an electronic problem in the fuel pump contol systems just as probable? Just ask anyone with the experience of an electronic bug in their car!

a programming glitch?
vapor lock?

@DanSweden101 why the pilot didn retract the landing gear is that the landing gear vil take some force from the inpact
