excuse my english, hey men i gat a big question for you...can i run in full speed pcsx2 emulator on this laptop????????and also i was wondering about what is more better? the Dual 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 580M – NVIDIA® SLI® Enabled or Dual 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6990M AMD CrossFireX??????????
Yea, having looked at a lot of gaming laptops lately the only one that can even compare is the 8180 sager. This is the only other laptop that has the option for 2 GPUs. It costs less but the GPUs have to be manually upgraded (from 560s) and once you add everything alienware provides it is almost the same price with a more unreliable warranty. Asus G74s make me laugh, great for a tight budget, but will suffer with newer games out later this year...
I removed some comments due to them being useless. If you like Asus go buy it. I'm sure its a good machine as well. I don't really care. I can tell you for the last 4 months this computer has been awesome. I looked at the g74sx and I don't like the looks. For a desktop replacement this thing is great. And that's advice coming from someone who owns it not a web surfing cowboy who reads about things and thinks they know everything about Asus.
To all you haters out there, the Asus laptops are not even as powerful as the m17x, the best company that can stack up against the Alienware's m17x is MSI because there laptops have the Gtx570m, all the Asus ones only have the 560m, which won't play jack shit maxed.
@manandblack2 LOL WHAT?! The ASUS G74 does not even have a QUARTER of the power in the M18x. Hell even the M17x blows the G74 away in terms of GPU power!
@NateN34 , Dude , I'm basically recommending the latest ASUS laptop on the market which costs far less than Alienware . Also Asus uses great ventilation turbo boost to dessipate hot air while overclocking to maximum which needs alot of power and also to compare the power brick , they both have the similar size so don't say Asus is crap , ok ? Alienware company has the worst customer service ever . I rather go for Toshiba Qosmio Or Asus .
Yes there is some glare but I game in the dark. This the lighted keys are a must for me. I would look into something anti glare if you are worried about that. The screen is shiny and will reflect. But the LED screen is soooooo nice. When I compare my old gateway and this one next to each other I didnt know it could look this nice.
@deathhunter5546 They are not both equal... the asus g74 supports 3D and has a nvidia GTX 560 while the m18x does not support 3D but has a dual video card configuration you can put TWO Gtx 580 SLI cards in the m18x wwhile the asus will not support a higher end graphics card.. although the asus g74 is a exxcelent laptop with a decent price but if your really looking for a high high HIGH end gaming laptop go for the m18x or the sager clevo NP7280 it all depends on your budget. hope that helped.
I only game in the dark so I'm selling my Dell xps and getting an alienware m18x for Xmas, i have an iMac osx top quality and the m18x is no doubt 2x better graphics wise and quality wise
You will kick yourself in the dick if you get the other one. The fit and finish is better on this one. IMO. No seriously I have had mine for almost 2 months now and I love it. Nice quality everything and I am loving the lighting. I no longer use a desk light at night. I just pick my gaming color based in the mood I am in and rock out. You need to ask yourself this question if you say they are the same. To bling or not to bling? ... I like the bling! :)
I have an old m11x. Its good no doubt. BUT my mate unboxed his m18x, and the lighting is sooo much better. Weirldy enough, purple looks the best on it O.o
1.5 nvidia. In theory more driver updates and better design. The truth is radeon is not as terrible as it used to be last decade. I have always bought Nvidia and never been dissipointed. I have read some articles saying that this card is last years model and its crap but as you can see it rocks crisis 2. So IMO nvidia. I am happy and you will be to. Keep in mind on a gaming rig only load the bare minium on it. Dont crap it up with bloatware.
I wasnt too happy with the m17x and its dual graphics cards. The 2gb AMDs are apparently similar to the design of the m17 graphics. My question is...is it better to get the dual 1.5 nvidia, or dual 2gb amd? Just need to soo an fps comparrison if possible :) thanks
I would say the game did not install right or your settings are wrong in the nvidia control panel. I use sli options for AA. I would check your settings and make sure SLI is enabled.
@wackerxxx Well I have the 6970m crossfire and the crossfire is enabled and everything but I get a really choppy framerate when I run on 1920x1080. And I can barely run on the lowest setting
No if you get the backpack from Alienware or the messenger bag. The Targus 17 inch lap top bags with the soft rear laptop holder pouch will fit it as well. You will feel it no doubt if you have a long walk across campus. What will get heavy is all this lap top plus an ipad and more gear. Find something with lots of padding in the sling. So to answer your question this is bearable only if you don't crap up your bag with other gear.
I feel its worth it but like I said. If you forgo the pretty case and name you can get a bit more with other laptop makers. I liked the total package of what it is and barring any problems in the near future I feel this is money well spent. 2046 bucks after discount.
Well - Dell gives US government employees a discount on thier laptops. They have a special site through AAFES.com that you log into and you can see the lower prices. But it looks like the guy posting above this was able to do a phone deal. Get a cup of coffee in you and break out your haggling skills and call them. Now in theory the US government is a huge buyer of desktops from dell so I can understand they made thier money on mass purchases and can give a discount.
@wackerxxx i spoke with a dell guy online and i got him to knock £400 off which is 645 dollars and he has agreed so far! so i will be getting my M18x for 2097 dollars which is pretty good ayee, I hope I get it.
I bought a radon years ago when they were starting out and I had to have special patches to run my games with that card. Thankfully they have improved the situation but ever since then I buy Nvidia. Maybe I'll try something again from them but there are always so close on specs I don't see a need. make sure your antivirus is not scanning all your files when you play as well. Avast is a nice antivirus you can turn off when you game as well as put it in gaming mode.
Wow, I compared it with my computer, (OP system: Win7, 2,5gb DDR2 ram, 2,5Ghz dual core proc, ATI radeon 4550) and in this there's no lag or something that happened on my computer.
@nucleartactician Thats odd. I preffer it do to the core clock speed. If you look its around 35-40% faster.I do hear that nvidia makes better drivers thoe.
