The one for ADAM is a great port, but that damn controller.. hurts your thumb after the first few screens. I dont understand why you can't use the keyboard to play, that owuld have been SOOO much better. BTW, that monkey thing looks like the DonKey Kong from Nintendo.

I noticed myself if you play the Colecovision version, when you take one step on the ladder, let go of the stick, then go up again. Mario climbs much faster that way.

I had colecovision, and Donkey Kong is a great version. We also had the expansion module for play atari2600 games. Talk about versitable. The 2600 version of DK looks awful. But what do you expect for such a simple game system.

Coleco didn't license Donkey Kong to Atari and Mattel. Coleco made those versions themselves without any involvement from Atari or Mattel. When Coleco bought the home rights to arcade games, one of the conditions was to make a version for all major system (to maximize the royalties for the original developer)

I think you made a mistake about the ADAM version. It is not supposed to be identical to the coleco vision version. Here is a video of it watch?v=KlFF8JCfBS0 .

maybe it's just like that because....oh who the hell knows. even the file size is different from my regular colecovision rom, so who knows what that is

I don't yet own the Intellivision version of DK, but it is considered the worst port. Over at Atariage in the Intellivision sub forum there is an interesting topic about the rumor that Coleco designed it bad on purpose. Surprisingly people are saying that is just a myth. It is an interesting read.
