@maplelaffs A stock 6.0 is virtually useless in a truck. No torque until you wind the shit out of it. The tranny that backs it up is just as useless. Way too much torque management by the computers, too. I should know, I just traded in a 2008 Sierra 2500 with the gasser. Got a DMax now. Infinitely better drivetrain.
@APontiacof455cubes Incorrect. The GMT900 3/4 ton gassers have the 6L90 6-speed. ALL Duramax's are mated to Allison's, which are INFINITELY better transmissions. A stock 2010 or earlier Allison will take almost 900 lbs of torque before they slip. This has been proven. The 2011's are even strongers. The 6L90 would explode if you put anywhere near that amount of torque into it, not to mention the horseshit software running it makes it a disaster to drive. I have owned several. All sucked.
@bigman55434 good call. Im sure the allison is better. BUT, there is a strand of marketing hype behind the allison name (similar to how the new hemi engines were all hyped up several years ago, when they really arent that great of engines at all). Yes they put them in M1 Abrams tanks but I've heard plenty of stories that dissprove its talked up greatness
@APontiacof455cubes The Allison is a completely different transmission, both in the way it functions, and in it's capabilities. The Allison 1000 series has been around for a long time, with a proven track record. There are a few weak points in them, which have mostly been software related over the years. They did also have a small issue with neutral/back up switch. Nothing structural. We could debate this all day long. However, there is a reason GM does not put the 6L90 behind the Duramax.
@APontiacof455cubes cont... we could debate this all day. However, spend a few thousand miles driving a truck with the 6L90 and then drive one with the Allison. I have owned several new 3/4 ton GMC's, with 2 of them Dmax's, and 2 of them 6.0/6L80 or 6L90's. The Dmax LBZ I had had a tuner on it, pushing it hard. Tranny never hiccuped once. 6L90? Hard shifts, missed shifts at light throttle, slamming back into 2nd on downshifts. Dealer said it was normal. The 6L80 in my Yukon was horrible.
@bigman55434 thats really too bad to hear. GM used to be on top when it came to transmissions. But once they went to the 6 speeds sounds like they fell off. Cause I've heard alot of good about 4L60s 70s and 80s.
@APontiacof455cubes I agree about the move to 6 speeds being their demise. They did it to try and push fuel mileage up, but I think they made it worse. Plus, driveability is horrible now. How can you expect a stock 6.0 to make any power at 1500 RPM's? That's what the motor turned in my 2008 Sierra 2500 at 60 mph. If you want to accelerate at all, you had to floor it. It would not downshift 1 gear - only 2. Allison and Dmax? No downshifts needed. It just accelerates.
@APontiacof455cubes continued... The last good gas truck I owned was a 2005 Sierra Denali with a 4 speed. That truck was rated at 345hp I think, but it had really strong acceleration and great driveability. It also got better mileage than my POS 2008 Sierra 2500 (12 for the 2500, and 14+ for the Denali). Granted the Sierra Delali (a half ton) was 500 lbs lighter, but it was also AWD. You need to test drive a new Dmax LML. They pull like a freight train. I will never go back to a gasser.
@bigman55434 When did they stop using the LMM dmax? I thought that was still in use. What about the new F250 with the 6.7 'stroke? I feel like Ford still has a better 3/4 package than Chevy. No IFS and at least in the past, a better motor. the 7.3 trucks were unstoppable.
@APontiacof455cubes The last year of the LMM was 2010. The 2011 is the LML. Major changes included an SCR exhaust aftertreatment system using urea injection, a boost in HP/torque to 397/765, new piezo injectors, 3 second glow plugs, and beefier bottom end to handle the added power. It's a really strong engine. I don't know much about the Ford designed 6.7, but from what I read, they are decent motors. Any new engine will have teething issues. I go with the one that has been around a while.
@eddierocks01 chevy is the worst car company ever...im so tired of people being loyal to a company who has fucked so many people over...selling them cheap plastic pieces of shit
@mb20041 While I agree Chevy isnt the best, you mustve forgotten about Chrysler. The junk they produce far exceeds what GM manufactures in craptasticness.
I used to have a 1983 C10 that was a total sleeper. faded red paint. absolutely nothing done to interior or exterior. i put all the money i had into the engine/tranny. carb, intake, headers, cam, heads,700r4 tranny, lockers... cant remember the smaller things i had done, but she was a sweet truck. till one day a F150 pulled out in front of me and it was totalled... oh well. nice truck btw!!
Could you tell me what exactly is done to the motor, like any head or intake work done? What size turbo is this and what cam/ stall did u put in it. I'm thinking about sticking a 6.0 in a c10 and turbo'ing it. Thanks
Yeah, I agree Dodge transmissions are garbage. Banks makes their Dodge customers sign a waiver releasing them of liability if their transmission is destroyed by the Banks upgrades.
Dodge transmissions aren't garbage, If you're on the subject of Diesels I'm taking it, the Allison is an awesome transmission capable of handling well over 1,000 ft.-lbs. of torque. It's just the Banks upgrades give the engine the power to literally rip apart gears. Just like the Hennessy Venom 1000 Viper. Literally rips tjhe gears apart on the T56.
He must of completely beat the shit out of it then. My neighbor has a pretty nice ass mid 90's with the old 12V, putting out close to 400 horsepower, about 1,000 ft.-lbs. of torque, nothing too special, but he hasn't had a single transmission problem.
If you put an STS turbo kit on a Chevy 2500HD 6.0 5-speed manual like some of the ones I've seen on here and this one, would you have to go with a bigger clutch or what would probabaly be best??
parish's chevy is a badass , but he is running a 408 built motor...and a fucking huge turbo, they in lil different classes , this is stock 6.0 with turbo, but parish's truck is a badass
ok ive never heard of a universal turbo kit youistill have to fabricate then and that doesnt make it universal and the turbo cant be "just right" for any application and how cant there be any lag........
well, I know that my 3.8L GN motor can push a 62-1 with no lag and thats w/o a ball bearing option. So I imagine that a 6.0L wouldn't have too much trouble. That seems to be the "generic" turbo size that sts uses. Its not universal though. Each kit is designed for each vehicle.
dude thats so nasty u were unleashing ur tires while u were driving...my hemi ram cant even come close to that but yeah..youve got like twice the horsepower LOL but it sounds so nice thats what im getting for my truck
the only reason sts's have so little lag is that they are tiny turbos.
