thank goodness the drug addicts didnt take the copper, to shut the walls out and sell it to buy more drugs. So now the only ones that work are in Wallsend :D If it happens again ill know who to thank.
I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY SON, MY DAD WORRIED THAT I MIGHT GO INTO LABOR AND WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET TO A HOSPITAL, BUT AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT I DIDN'T HAVE HIM UNTIL MAY 20, 1977
I was there to witness it all. I was 15 years old at the time of the flood. About a couple hours before the water came over the flood wall my mother, myself and a sibling went to the Pineville hospital to get to higher ground. There were others. The Red Cross provided army cots, sleeping bags and food. Once the water went down we were then taken to Clear Creek Baptist School and they housed us for a short period. The flood was very devasting to alot of families!
I was living in Pineville when the flood of 1977 hit and it was a something to witness. From my vantage point along Bird Branch the world looked like a giant lake covering everything. If I remember correctly it snowed while the flood was on.
i didn't Live during the flood but my dad said that after everyone had lost so much lots of people left! they moved away to start over, he lost alot of friends from school because of that!!!
These are amazing photos. I lived in Bell County during that time and remember the devastation of the flood of '77. Many people lost so very much. It made me sad; it makes me sad now to recall such a devastating time. Some folks never recovered from their losses; they lost their homes, possessions and I think, in the end, a lot of them lost their lives from grief. Thanks for sharing the photos and reminding us what can happen when we least expect it.
my family used to live in Pineville many years back I was not born there but I always herd tales of Pineville ky about the flood and all amazing.,,my mother said Pineville allways made her very sad to think of living there back in the day
I remember the flood of 1977. I lived in Claiborne County, Tn. The Powell river was no longer a beautiful place where I was Baptised, but a rage of endless fury !
Wow. I looked for photos of the flood a few months ago and only found a couple. This is the largest amount of photos I have ever seen. I just noticed the A&P that Betty Jo worked at for so long...I had no idea it flooded THAT much of that area!!!
