He was MUCH better in person. He would say pretty clearly " Hello dare!" "Hello!" "Whaddya doin" This recording wasn't very good.. I pretty much freaked the first time I heard him, I thought I was hallucinating.
Making generalizations based on country, race, age, etc is all the same. It's for the weak, aimless people who fail to understand what's what and why. Leave country comparisons and that naive good vs evil mentality on the sporting field.
@ptrlaurent What is with Europeans always putting Americans down? You're making fun of your own people! If you want to insult Americans, at least reserve your comments for Anglo-Saxon Americans so as not to offend other groups of Americans. I'm an Armenian-American and when someone says all Americans are stupid, I take offense to that as I identify myself as an American, but I am not the redneck, ignorant, white trashy kind of American. Don't lump us all together!
I just love the notion of Americans, who barely seem able to get it right about whether they're talking about England, Britain, UK, or half the rest of Europe, lecturing us on how to direct our gratuitous insults at better-specified subsets of the American people! Hey, y'all sound the same to us -- we tell it as we see it! :-)
I think there's a tendency to generalize on both sides: some Europeans think that all Americans are boneheaded ignoramuses, and in turn some Americans think that all Europeans enjoy putting Americans down. And then the cycle just repeats and feeds on itself. Human nature in action, really.
does anyone know the movie with the seal , and there were kids that dressed him up and he wore sunglasses, i really want to know so i can watch it again
Actually. He was originally adopted by a Maine family, and the voice he learned to imitate was that of the family father, who used to call "Get ovah heah" when he wanted to feed or play with him. Dunno if the dad was old-old, exactly. But it is a pretty decent Mainer accent (not a Boston one) that you hear.
@JollyMunkie Yep...we started getting it a year or more back, with the then current season. Since then, they've gone back to the first series, and been showing them all in order.
@JollyMunkie I hear Australia has a mish mash of eps out of sequence - so some are new and some old. Alan Davies said Aus can watch how his hair seem to grow overnight and Stephen's weight goes up and down.
yeah, he did sound like pacino. lol. At lunch time in the business district, we used to go down to the Aquarium and sit outside watching everyone react to Hoover. This clip is not a great representation of his voice. He actually could say his name really well. And entertained everyone with his mimicking. A very intelligent seal. There are many people from around that area who loved Hoover and still miss him to this day. The Aquarium should have a bronze statue commemorating him outside.
I met Hoover when I was a kid! I remember accusing my brother of talking under his breath and pretending it was the seal. It turns out that it really was the seal. I'm not crazy! Thanks for the memories, Hoover. I miss you! :-)

I have to admit among the popular talking animals(parrots, apes, elephants, etc) I did not count seals among them.
I knew they were hiding something... Just you wait... They're planning revenge for the bloody pastime of baby-seal-clubbing!
