I have fits of anger, it's called being a hotheaded Italian & if they gave labels like this when I was a kid in the 70s & 80s I would have ran the gamut of labels. I don't have patience for BS & get ticked when things don't go my way, then again most people are like that, not all but most. I'm also a very kind & loving individual & very emotional about things....then again if someone labled me with something that alone would piss me off & they'd probably label me w/ something else.
I am so glad you were the .01% that found the true issue. @Amam I would take a medication for ADHD or ADD to make feel it out myself. That is the only way we can understand what the kids may not be able to break down into words.
As long as it isn't for a serious illness (ex: cancer) I think it's ok.
Very glad they shared their story- I'm an adult in college also with a misdiagnosed child and i'm doing a paper on Children Misdiagnosed with ADD & ADHD
Very interesting. As a 25 year-old adult I'm still struggling with similar unexplained fits of anger (although I certainly feel like tearing things up, I obviously as an adult control myself), but I had no idea that it could be related to the ADHD I was diagnosed with as a child (of which symptoms I still have) - or maybe it's something else like in this case?
Anyway, I'm writing a paper for college on ADHD misdiagnosis. Is it possible to get the date/time/etc that this news story aired?
im glad that they shed light on drug misuse and misdiagnosis. but adhd is no worse than any other mental health problem when it comes to misdiagnosing and misusing medication. every mental illness carries the same risk of this as adhd. i dont see why adhd has to be the scapegoat here. i dont understand WHY people have such a problem with adhd and the medication used to treat it. stimulants are NEVER to be used by ANYONE other than those who need them. same for every other medication.
@threadysparrow It is not just ADHD, you are right. It was hard enough getting the news to cover what little they did. If you are referring to me taking my son's drugs to see how it felt, I suffered from the same symptoms that he did so I qualified by medical standards as someone who "needed" it. Once my son was off the drugs he told me they made him feel like he was underwater and now he feels like his head is above the surface.
VERY interesting. I have Lyme, babesia and bartonella and a raging case of ADD, which improves as I'm treated. It's not a steady upward course for me though. This information give me hope that I'll regain my abiity to focus and stay on track. I'm going to share it with a Lyme support group. It's very informative. Thanks!
$200,000 spend on doctors and medication for ADHD?! And in less than 10 years time?! Over $20,000 each year just for ADHD treatment...
Bloody hell, what the f*ck is wrong with you America?!
