  • 8:51 that image is so cute i love adam cooper...

  • I replay this clip for about 10 minutes. Awesome work!

  • this is so incredible... those swans are SCARY though!! the way they move their heads really is so birdlike... yikes

  • The man wants to be the swan. The swan wants to be the man.

  • 0:51 - this is how perfection comes to life...

  • I LOVE THIS ENDING!!!

  • Um, i don't remember this version of swan lake. can anyone explain to me about the story line for this?

  • @rockinamber18 Check Wikipedia 'Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake'.

  • @rockinamber18 A prince goes mad and goes to kill himself in a park but becomes obsessed with a swan on the lake (all the swans are aggressive and arrogant in this, and played by men). A ball is called tot ry and find the prince a wife - von Rothbart (not a sorcerer in this - the private secretary instead) brings his son, who reminds the prince of the swan he obsesses over. The prince dances with him but the son later goes off with the queen. The prince pulls out a gun and aims at his mother...

  • @rockinamber18 ...and von Rothbart's son tries to stop him. Von Rothbart pulls out a gun to shoot the prince but the Prince's girlfriend takes the bullets for him. Police take the Prince away and the queen hugs von Rothbarts son as he and his father laugh behind her back. The prince wakes up in an asylum and here he dreams about the swans, and is reunited with his swan, who is killed by the other swans. The prince dies, is reunited with his swan in death and his mother finds his body.

  • I love this ballet. The flock was creepy though.... lol

  • @Maclabv that kinda sounded like you were just trying to big yourself up....."Well, after all, I do have a sensitive sould, being in my way to be a writer and all" seriously.

  • I'm speechless. I was all "classical" about twenty minutes ago. Now, I've seen that not all the "modern" things suck. Quite the oposite. This was just amazing. Brilliant. I'm still stunned that I liked it so much. Well, after all, I do have a sensitive sould, being in my way to be a writer and all. So I guess that helps one apreciate Art when you come across it, which is so rare nowdays, unfortunately.

  • Can somebody explain to me what this swan lake is about please?

  • @xxAmazonxxx

look up Swan Lake (Bourne) on wiki. But basically. I depressed prince who can't find love (paternal or sexual) has fantasies about a swans and a swan prince. At a party where he is suppose to meet his future wife, he sees a man resembling the swan prince but he's making sexual advances to his mom and rejects him. Prince goes mad tries to shoot his mom, but fails. Final scene is this video, he's incarcerated in a room and the swan prince (real or not) comes, but they both die

  • have to admit the flock of swans was pretty scary.

  • Is the black swan played by the guy at the end of Billy Elliot?

  • @icklerob

Yup, his name is Adam Cooper; genius dancer.

  • Phwoar, incredible, but even more so live.

  • @BoringEnglishFlicks @EDstar221 There *are* women in Bourne's version of Swan Lake. (See end of this clip!) The swans, however, are all male. A breathtaking production if you can get to see it on stage sometime.

  • Comment removed

  • Its just beautiful. Thats all. makes me weep everytime.

  • Are there any women in this version? I'm confused....is this an entirely male cast?

  • @BoringEnglishFlicks Yes. That's the point.

  • Is there a dvd of this ..omg I love this version soo much

  • I had the weirdest dream that involved this....lol

  • Hi, i'm about to buy this version, it is not in bluray version at this time, but it is on a regular dvd version and its Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1, wich ratio is the one you put here?

because it looks very neat to me..

    tks anf happy new year

  • thats awesome.

    i'd nearly cried :'(

  • so bad

  • I don't even know what it's about, I've never watched ballets, I'm not particularly interested, yet I happened to watch the last few minutes of this and my body is tingling with chills. How?

  • Comment removed

  • awful, the fat man

  • it's just incredible and such a great idea to create a ballet only with men. the great classics of ballet are dominated by women, there may be always a male principal but the swans, shades, wilis are always women. i love and like to dance the classics but this version of swan lake is amazing.

  • went 2 c this in cardiff in march!! me and my mother cried out bloody eyes out

  • Luckily, I saw this in Norwich not last week...

An act of utter beauty which often (at least 4 times) reduced me to tears...

    Utter Brilliance!

  • Impressionnant. Il a transcandé l´oeuvre. C´est impressionnant. Un Génie.

  • is this the same story as the one with the girl swans?

  • Lindo...

  • Without doubt THE most incredible ballet I have ever seen & I have seen quite a few. It was beyond words. Bourne at his very best.

  • Vivement que tu viennes voir le DVD du Gala de Maud, on vous attends avec impatience... Par contre on ne squattera pas ton appart pour les 10 ans.... Venez vite !!!!

  • what do you guys think of the prince? um... i might be amateur but i really dont like him that much.

  • i have no words!

    it's perfection!

    it made me cry :(!

  • I would KILL to see this in the US. It may or may not be coming to New York in Nov. 2010. Even if I have to hitchhike, I will go and see this!

  • @OrchidAkuma ..I saw this 7 times in LA.(I knew 2 of the dancers)...Its well worth hitchhiking too...

  • This is the best ballet and interpretation of Swan Lake of which Tschaicowsky could ever dream. HE would be so happy if he could see this Swan Lake...

  • Saw this for the first time recently in Bradford, and thought it totally amazing - it really took my breath away and was tearing up at the end. At times humorous, at others tragic and very beautiful. Would love to see it again! ^_^

  • I just saw it, I literally just walked into my flat. I needed to see this final scene. I'm speechless and I don't want to go to bed

I'm in love with the thing these guys made me feel

  • ok....i saw it last night....it was amazing.................beautifull......breath taking..........genious....!!! And i didn't saw a gay swan or whatever...I saw a human(princ) who needed love and care and he founded in this swan......It doesn't matter whether they're man or women......come on....i found it perfect..it touched my soul......!!!!!BRAVO!!!

  • Went to see this in Salford at the beginning of March!

I was in such awe I lost my breath - It literally took my breath away! I was shaking due to a rush of adrenaline and ad to fight to hold back the tears.

  • it is not a gay version :-) ...you have to see all of it to understand...

I have seen it twice! it is PERFECT

    just perfect...

  • i have a guestion..??is the princ in love with the "male"swan????I mean there is not a girl????oh,ok...........though i love it!!!! I think is a beatifull balet!!!though i am comfused!!!!!!

  • I have seen this on TV before, What was it about? Was it a modern gay version of Swan Lake?

  • i saw this on saturday in bradford, the one with Richard Winsor and it was amazing! i managed to hold it together right up to the point where the prince and the swan are presented above the bed and then i was in floods! at the end of the production we were having drinks and the swans were at a table near us and i got to meet them! i had a picture with Travis "Swan number 5" and then they all signed my cast sheet! it was AMAZING!

  • @xXloveangelmusicbaby I saw it at the Bradford Alhambra too, earlier in the week; had heard really good things and was so glad I saw it, it really lived up to my hopes! ^_^

  • wow this was so homoerotic, im sure Tchaikovsky would of lovedd it...amazingg

  • I saw this a few days ago, with Jonathan Ollivier as the Swan, and Dominic North as the prince. I was in TEARS by the end. So so beautiful and heartbreaking and the skill was just amazing. The STANDING LEAPS!! Oh man. Just sheer brilliance.

  • I saw the virsion with Jonathan and Dominic today, I was so shocked and moved....I think they are the greatest to act the Swan and the Prince. I like Jonathan so much...

  • @mqtomato Weren't they just amazing? I was in TEARS at the end of the performance. I swear, for the last 10 minutes, I hardly breathed. Standing ovation right from the start of the curtain calls.

  • @forgiveninasong I saw that production too, in Bradford, I was completely blown away

  • is this the fulll dance, i have to analise it for my gcse xxx

  • Like almost everyone else, I was deeply moved by this stunning contemporary dance/theatre production - Matthew Bourne's definition. I have seen it twice and long to see it again. It somehow made Tchaikovsky's music contemporary too. Richard Winsor as the Swan made a huge impression on me; he had amazing stage presence. Swan Lake explores love, need and rejection so profoundly and is undoubtedly Bourne's greatest work to date. The spoof ballet within a ballet was wonderful too!

  • if only his mother had given him a hug...

  • Went to see it last night, with Richard Winsor playing the lead swan and SO enjoyed it again, however Adam Cooper will always be my favourite! beautiful.....

  • Beautiful! Much more 'action' and evident feeling than in any interpretation i have seen (yet). I especially like the way the music was changed at the end to be in a major key, and not minor. Perhaps the end is not so sad in this version?

  • thank you for posting this,

    it's so beautiful..

    gay, male, straight or not,

the beauty of ballet is beyond that,

but i like the fact that guys are dancing :)

  • best video i´ ve ever seen here ... great, awsome ... i love it... thx for it!

  • It is exploring homosexuality, yes. However, it is not entirely clear whether the Prince has in fact interacted with the swans, or if they are figments of his imagination. :)

  • awesome thanks

  • @raindropwaterworks

Another possible interpretation is that the lead swan is the prince's fantasy alter-ego: a sort-of avatar-wish. The swans are free, he is trapped; the swans are graceful, he isn't (except with them - and that might be only in his mind); the swans are loved and accepted, the prince gets rejection and disdain. Only by their deaths in their respective worlds can the prince join his avatar and so receive the love (including from his mother) and freedom until then denied.

  • I've never thought of it like this. But I like your thinking :)

  • so im asking in all seriousness with no derogatory tone, is this a "gay" ballet?

  • was in audience at Sadlers Wells last Sunday for the current production of this wonderful ballet. Breathtaking and heartbreaking final scene. Bravo!!

  • Same here!! Just saw it today, it's amazing isn't it?

  • ...what is the story of this ballet?

  • beautiful! wish i could move like that!

  • I love the ending... it's so beautiful!! this ballet is sensational!! :D

  • Superbe spectacle vu à PARIS en 2005.

  • The fierce power of the swans - absolutely Breathtaking! I saw this at Saddlers Wells in 2004 and will most likely never forget that performance. The strenght made such an effect. Amazing!

  • That was so beautiful, what a moving ending! Pretty much perfect, and so sad, I was in tears. Adam Cooper is such an incredible dancer.

  • Tchaikovski and Matthew Bourne make an excellent combination.

  • hermoso!!!!!

  • I cried so many times in this ballet!!!

I love all the emotion! x

  • this is so sad! I've never seen a swan lake before where I wanted to give the prince a big fat hug...

  • Comment removed

  • just so beautiful

  • Yes this ballet captured some undefinable essence of the imagination and male or wild animal longing for the impossible. It was so ravishing that it literally took my breath away till I was gasping for more. One of the best ballets EVER produced on stage anywhere in the world.

  • excellent Adam Cooper´s performance.....

  • Adam Cooper is sooo beautiful!

  • thats adam cooper right? he is amazing!

  • This is the best performance which I've ever seen in my life!! I went to see it in Tokyo. It's powerfully beautiful male swans..... and it's very much like real swans! I'm in love with whole performance!!

    Just gorgeous and beautiful.....

I get re-energizing by watching it!! Thank you!

I would like to watch it again real stage!!
