Incredible version of one of my favorite Karen songs. You really should record this in a studio to get rid of the echo's. It's absolutely stunning. Great job.
Thank you very much and a great suggestion! The echos you're hearing are probably that of the real Karen Carpenter. This is a recording of me singing along with her, that's all.
It would be nice to hear some singing, just with you! Maybe there is a career in your future...but with that, you have to be able to be comfortable singing Carpenters songs without Karen in it...that is the true way to tell if you could do it!
I have done it, actually, and it's been quite thrilling. One of the great joys for me as a child was being able to sing along to them and not necessarily be able to sing on my own. That I know I can do; it's just nice to sing along with Karen.
Okay.. if this is not Karen Carpenter.. You need to send this tape to Richard Carpenter now.. You are the closest singer I have ever heard that has attempted one of Karen's songs.. You are very very talented..
This is truly one of the nicest compliments I've received. Thank you. In some respect I think of myself as being talented, but not really when it comes to singing along with Karen Carpenter -- I'm copying her, so it's not really MY voice. I just feel that her range is comfortable to sing along to. I hope to meet Richard Carpenter before either one of us passes away.
@KindredC Karen taught me how to sing. Her projection and intonation was impecable. I wore out all my Carpenter records. I always loved her and she is my inspiration still. Richard is a fantastic arranger and has an incredible ear. I think he got the best out of Karen with his beautiful arrangements which were a perfect compliment to her angelic voice. Why do the good things have to pass so soon? God bless Karen and Richard
You were very kind to write such beautiful sentiments about a brother and sister musical duo who seem to be undervalued for their gifts and contributions in today's time and society.
I've been singing along with them since I was very young so singing along to their music, sounding like Karen Carpenter, isn't too much of a challenge for me, honestly (with the exception of some songs which require incredible amounts of breath and vocal control). This song is special to me.
Ahahahahah! That's such a nice compliment. Who knows how Richard would actually respond, especially if it's a MAN sounding like his sister. I can't imagine him being too comfortable with it. Regardless, though, it was a really nice suggestion and compliment.
You're really kind to write that. Honestly. I don't know what to say... I'm thankful that you took the time to listen, I guess. I'm sorry that I can't write anything more. I LOVE doing it!!
One of the most haunting Christmas melodies, sung by one of the finest, smoothest voices EVER! Thanks for posting. Richard's arranging and orchestration abilities were top-notch, too! This is right up there with "Mary, Did You Know?" by Mark Lowry!
It was a pleasure to post this! It's very haunting and has a great story to tell with a lot of emotional power. It's really fun to sing to. To get the same resonance that Karen had on certain notes is particularly moving.
I wish you could of just recorded yourself singing. I'd like to hear it. Miind checking out my version?

Thanx for this beautiful song & the background!!!

I thank the Carpenters for doing; I just copied singing it, that's all! The background needed to be 'Christmas' or 'holiday,' I thought.
