I Invite you to try out the exercise of doing something like this, it appears simple, but is a good training to welcome learning always new things even if we don't like 'em
i always feel thatif it took o'sensi 60 somthing years to develop aikido and how do people think that they can master and then devleop better aikido in less than 10 or 20 years... i leave it for the next life. in this one i hope only to learn some (or at best match)o'sensis aikido...
Well, Osensei seems to have encouraged individuality. See how different his direct students are in how they do aikido. That is one of the things I admire the most about him. Aikido is not a Xerox machine.
I do not aspire to do aikido better than Osensei, but maybe better for me.
thats an interesting coment, do u teach ur students to do aikido like u. or do u teach them to do whatever works for them.and the said students trained at differnt times in the life of osensei, hence the diferent styles...
I try to teach them the way to their own aikido. And no, the differences between Osensei's students are not because they studied for him at different times - even students from the same period differ much.
7 blind men will discribe the white elephant in 7 diferent ways but only the transendant one will know its white. good luck finding ur aikido, i will learn to understand osenseis. ps see u at the top of the mountain...
I would not feel comfortable doing that. I added "shiho", four directions, to the name, to point out that it's not the traditional way of doing the kata.
Always attempt to cut from the center of the head.

PD: Is 31 or 36 jo kata?
Urbexx99 3 years ago 2
It's 31 kata - but observe that here it's done in four directions instead of two. My own little experiment...

I love the idea of doing this kata in 4 way. Thank you for sharing Sensei. :-)

It's a nice jo kata!!!

You must rename your 31 jo kata, add your name to it, 31 jo kata + (your name)!

I would not feel comfortable doing that. I added "shiho", four directions, to the name, to point out that it's not the traditional way of doing the kata.

Why you changed the kata?

I explained that in the description text to the right, above. For more about this kata, see my website. The link is also in the description text.

Like the fluidity with which the kata is done: great jo kata
