But what about the majority of french speaking people in Canada that doesn't get any word of english... Hey, 28% of canadians are francophones, it's almost one third. Re: criticisms about Harper talking French. It's been that way for as long as I remember. The talk in English is interspersed with talk in French. Canada is a bilingual country. Do you not think there are Francophones who don't understand English who would be interested in what Harper has to say? And not only from Quebec. I live in Manitoba. There are plenty of towns in Southern Manitoba where the first language is French. St Boniface in Winnipeg has the highest # of French outside of Montreal.

Focusing on jobs is a win-win for the recovery and this country. The person with the job will win. The country will win,as income rises the tax revenues increase, and that is one significant way that the deficit (which long term, is a major problem) can be cut. Re: criticisms about Harper talking French. It's been that way for as long as I remember. The talk in English is interspersed with talk in French. Canada is a bilingual country. Do you not think there are Francophones who don't understand English who would be interested in what Harper has to say? And not only from Quebec. I live in Manitoba. There are plenty of towns in Southern Manitoba where the first language is French. St Boniface in Winnipeg has the highest # of French outside of Montreal.

Why exactly is Stephen Harper speaking French at all? He's in the US, they're first language is English. We have two languages, but the majority of Canadians speak English. When people come from non-English speaking countries to Canada, they speak English. He should be speaking English. Canada is still under the Queen of England. It's rude to leave the Americans in the dark for so long speaking French then speaking English. In my opinion anyway.

It is no mystery to you or me or to any Canadian that, despite being neighbors and sharing the world's biggest trade partnership, Canada and America are not the tightest allies. We should be. Could whoever posts the videos please look into attaching subtitles? Even though I don't know French, I'd still like to know what the prime minister is saying so I can have the full perspective from both sides. Likewise, it might be good to have French subtitles so that the Canadians who don't speak English can hear Obama as well.

Focusing on jobs is a win-win for the recovery and this country. The person with the job will win. The country will win,as income rises the tax revenues increase, and that is one significant way that the deficit (which long term, is a major problem) can be cut. Spending should of course be eliiminated on unnecessary things, and greater efficiencies introduced, but massive across-the-board cuts without considering the consequences is counterproductive.

The first part of this, about trade, etc, was just said to cover the fact that what they REALLY wanted to talk about was Egypt. America is not liked by the rest of the world. Canada is one of the most liked countries in the world. Obama needs Canada to convince the rest of the world he is right about Egypt. (Did I just type that? Yes, I appear to have. As a Canadian, astonishing to me that America would care what Canada thinks). News sites are highlighting the part about Egypt, which is proof.

@ApocalypsePlough I think, this has to do with America pushing its economy into Canada, controlling the northern border and creating jobs in America while pretending Canadian jobs will increase and taking advantage of the crisis in Egypt to keep the public distracted, that's also why they announced this on a late Friday afternoon. No matter how you slice this it isn't in the best of Canada.

They couldn't come out and immediately start talking about Egypt, so they went through the trade stuff to throw people off their scent. The news sites are highlighting the section on Egypt, which is proof. They got their way, methinks, But, really, what do any of us know? Where is Julian Assange when you need him?
