  • Pat reminds me of Seth McFarlane! :-)

  • He is HOT!!!!

  • You've got one life girl: I repeat, ONE life! Make the most of this; because your existence is a beautiful miracle. Be brilliant! Be exceptional! Try this: work for your dream! Don't have any assholes anywhere near you: they want you to be like them. Be the best of who you are. I'm trying this.

  • Always liked this song and this jazz rendition is cool too

  • 5 people withdrew their labour of love!!

  • I love the way every single audience member seems to be glued to their seat. How on earth you cant get up and move to this funk is beyond me

  • like it...save the way sings 'heart' the first time in the chorus slightly rushed choruses

  • Excellent as always Hue + Cry.

  • Great version.I listened to it in 1988 a hundred times.Glad to see them again making music and hear that outstanding voice!

    keep on!

  • this version is great,,,,,,,,,, met Pat back in the 80's when i worked in the fruit and veg shop beside him, and he signed an autograph for me......

  • Its still quality BUT the original still the GREATEST!

  • original was better, but this version is class

  • 最高。

  • Rivvim, much 'spect!!

  • Met Pat back in 89 when he stayed in Gourock, very nice guy

  • "....we have been hugh and cry bloody amazing goodbye ! "

  • I met them 3weeks ago!! at The Midlands Music Festival, my teen heros, lovely blokes. Had a right good chat with Greg, top bloke!!

  • Quality not bad for a sweaty

  • AWESOME.

  • i know pat kanes daughter ! :D whoop whoop ! :DD

he came to our school to talk bout his book :|

    goodtimes (Y)

  • Love it....!

  • does any one know where to get chords for hue & cry cant find any anywhere

  • Its like a coke fuelled jazz oddyssy...awesome.

  • this just show how FUCKING GOOD they are

  • Phenomenal!

  • Check Ian Thomas' poppin snare-sound and the drum groove at the top of the tune...a little different to the EC gig? Every credit, Ian. This was really 10 years ago? I've loved H&C since the get-go...nice to find this today.

  • Great uplifting, boyish quality about his voice. Great musicians and I do tend to apreciate bands breathing new life into their material.

With this version however... although more complex, I don't feel it's necessarily superior to it's pop format.

  • This band deserved to be so big. It's a shame that the pop music at that time killed their limited success. Great musicians ++++++++++

  • I was gonna say that I didn't understand why Hue and Cry didn't become huge. Wasting my breath. I'm sure there's a wise person who has put it better than I ever could. I'll have a stab though for the hell of it! British public? You can't educate pork!' What a singer! (I hop to Yahweh he's not Jewish!).

  • I was gonna ask if that was Tommy Smith on Sax, but then Pat introduced everyone.

Tommy's wife, Laura Martyn is an amazing Sax player too.

Bit of a self indulgent performance, but enjoyable nonetheless.

  • Most pop music is self indulgent I don't see your point there? Today any shit gets into the charts The X Factor for example is killing music here in the UK. Hip Hop is an excuse for people who can't sing at all, too get into the charts so they can advocate drugs, viloence and misgonism. Hue Cry were good in the 80s 'Looking for Linda was one of their best-est hits.

  • AWESOME....love this song!

  • one of the most under-rated singers of the time, made it all seem so effortless.

  • that's Ian Thomas on drums! he's brill!

  • remember them from the 80's and always thought they were cool - that was just fucking excellent.

  • couldn't have put it better myself ! lmao

  • truly amazing

  • Like this one A+++++++++++++++++

  • How you have aged and have gotten better during that, this song rocks.

  • im a big jazz fan and i honestly thing hue and cry are underated in the scene, they are seen as an 80s band but the real fans know they are more complex thatn that, especially at intimate gigs, im 26 and fucking love them, maybe il get to play my szx to greg some day., lol

  • Im a jazz fan too and I also liked them in the 80s when they were flying high. I feel like ive evolved with them as their music has matured. Their Jazz albums are great and yes I agree that they are very underated!

  • I wonder if the singer Jason Kay of Jamiroquai was influenced with his style of singing?....

  • it has been said that Jamiroquai are 'shakatak with hats'- similar era.

  • Does he look a bit like Jack Baure?

    They are simply class!!

  • Class song!

  • This is just pure class. Love the original, but this is mind blowing, I LOVE IT!!!

  • top class, would love to see them live now!:-)

  • his vocals on this are strangely reminiscent of how Eddie Vedder does that feverish quick delivery on tunes like animal and whatnot..

It's cool basically. This guy is a great singer and a killer bunch of muso's with him of course.

    Love it!

  • too much pain

    too little gain....

  • I'm so glad I've found this little gem, I love the original but this is total class.

  • Grew up with the original but this........... WOW. It's brilliant

  • how did ian get fired from eric clapton?! its just insane

  • Ian Thomas best drummer ever

  • this is a good version but i think the original is the best one of all.

  • HLYSHT. Tommy Smith looks about 18 there! Great version though. I think I remember seeing it live.

  • That was fantastic, musically - but what was Greg wearing?

  • Ian Thomas!! by far some of the best drumming i've heard!!

  • Fantastic drumming

  • great band and i loved the original version. don't get the jazz thing but he still sounds good.

  • ianto and lorry are practically the best double act in the world.

  • met Pat Kane back in the 80s.... Their music is so cool..

  • a hamilton palace classic, only because i request it every wee, lol.

  • haha, im from ek, gonna pop over this weekend just to hear this

  • For some reason as a 10 year old i used to think the lines to the chorus were "Went by Barbados and lo-ooooove!!"

The folly of youth - top tune!

  • fantastic!!!

  • not bad .. enjoyed it

  • pat kane ? best singer in 20yrs that stepped out of britain ! ( sorry guys and gals ) scotland ! graham bonnet my fav vocalist had the same with the metal brigade ? bit different but vocals well beyond anybody else !!!

  • i agree but only that they are agreat studio band so so boring live, even more boring than david sylvian and that takes some doing!Forget them live..........really!

  • Great stuff!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow they look fantastic still and what can I say about how they soung Better than ever they must be Brilliant LIVE!!!Thanks 4 posting!!

  • I agree....In the Netherlands they never got the appreciation they deserve unfortunately

  • Oh God. Funk. Acid. Whatever you call it, they must be one of Scotland's finest jazz line-ups.

  • I can't help thinking he looks a bit like Ricky Gervais.

  • Great to hear Tommy Smith in this context. Excellent band and exciting groove.

  • Yes, an outstanding performance - and Pat is defintely one of a hell singer and sexy, to boot! Thanx!

  • I attended this gig with my brother who worked with STV at the time. Loved the whole jazz trip that Hue and Cry went on during this time, and this version of Labour of Love shows just how versatile that Hue and Cry are musically. A classic.
