it's not really improv but this particular line wasn't written in the script or discussed or anything like that. I guess Jim Carrey was originally just supposed to exit the gas station and get in the van without really saying or doing anything but randomly went and made a comment about big gulps anyways lol... the black guys are just movie extras so it's not like they were expecting it which, to me, makes it that much more awesome
@sp4yke Yes, it's improvised, but the thing that makes it funny is that Lloyd starts some friendly banter with some strangers and has nothing more to say. The awkwardness and lack of social ability is what's funny... but it's hard to explain, maybe because "awkwardness" is based on cultural norms
@sp4yke basically he is just initiating a very awkward situation. Big Gulp is a size of drink served at the convenience store/gas station "7 eleven". He's talking to a couple black guys that may or may not want to talk to a nerdy white guy about what they're drinking, seeing as it is usually thought of as kind of awkward to start a conversation like that.
