I had this happen to me too. I plugged it into the wall and nothing. I ended up placing the iPod in the docking station. Instantly the apple came up and had a status bar come up under the apple. it rebooted and did the same thing again. Then I got the main menu. All it want's is an "authorized" charger.
does this ipod have a back lit screen?

(or see if you can partially plug in the usb to charge the ipod, or plug into a non computer usb)
older ipods require you plug it into a wall after you restore 'em.
(they fear the ipod going dead during the restore)

this is simple. You need the original firewire charger. Because it need some files from it.
