All newer vehicles are deadlocked so dont try to force entry as pulling the handle will not open the car, you will just dammage it. The locks must be picked by a professional.

I heard about this when I got a VW Golf Mk3.

The reason it works (so I was told) is because the central locking system on cars such as Golf Mk3's is not electronic, but uses compressed air to push up the buttons. So when you press the tennis ball (one cut in half I was told) against the lock it forces air into the system causing the locks to open.

I also imagine this would have just been with cars where the lock is flush with the door, as others have already said.

I was far from home and was told that the signal would travle through the cell phone and that would work, not! Had to have someone drive and bring me my spare key. Here's a tip, don't know whether it'll work 100% or not, but it'll greatly increase you chances of a win. Try in a late 90's VW Jetta. Like a '98 Jetta. I know that these vehicles have an "Air locking system". Pretty much the locks function by air pressure. So, maybe you'd get better results. :) Good luck!
