  • This video should be among the Bharatanatyam items on DVDs at GeeDVD*com !

  • A pure joy to watch! Born to dance!

  • I love the fact that I understand none of the language but I can tell what part of the songs are about from her facial expressions. Simply brilliant!

  • Harinie Jeevitha's performances can only be matched by Medha's (her 4 DVDs are on w w w . J a y Q .o r g ), even though in a different style.

These two are the greatest dancers in India!

  • Those who compare her with Medha should check Medha's dancing on

  • wow

  • i love her expression

  • This is so unbelievably amazing.

  • It's hard to believe she is 11 years old!

  • is it me or is there some similarities with balinese dancing..amazing how similar some of the hand gestures and footwork are.

    .

  • @gr019 Well, both are Hindu cultures, so that might explain it.

  • excellent dancer, better than Savitha Sastry

  • i luv the dance and costume, but i am curious; is it part of the dance to smile so hard? and is it traditional to point the foot the way she does or pretend she's drinking something?

  • @toBe8ere Most Indian dances are like telling a story. So the facial expressions are equally important.

  • @toBe8ere A big part of the dance is the expression; it's like trying to portray a story. That's why there's over-the-top smiles and dramatic kohl on the eyes of most of these dancers.

  • @BoxEffect it's not as if, it telling a story, it is.This dance tells the story of Hindu deities. This dance is divided into seven phases. The opening is dedicated to Ganesha. There are other tribute later to other deities and the "narrative" of love stories vécues by the deities. It's always tell something. Kohl is a make up,and not just specific to dancers.

  • @BoxEffect ,but it's traditional in India, because we find it beautiful. but it is true that it serves to emphasize the look and it helps to see the expression of eyes

  • Comment removed

  • @kelvin94fernandez yes it is true that every step has a meaning i know this because i learn this traditional dance too

  • @UKNOWTHEIROUTTHEIR not all of it is her real hair, fake hair is braided in to make it longer ;p

  • Proud to be Indian......proud of my luck to be born here.....

  • What a dancing Goddess! Beautiful...

  • She danced beautifully! I'd pay to see her any day!

  • what part of india is this in?

  • @itachizlastresort

this is from Tamil nadu, south India

  • @itachizlastresort The art form 'Bharata-natyam' has its origin in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. However it is now a very common dance form in India, especially in the Southern States like Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Children normally start their training at the age of three, though there are latecomers too! The earlier they start, the better dancers they become!

  • She's 11!?

  • Beautiful, entrancing. The thing I love about Indian, and south asian dance in general, is how the face and especially the eyes play such an important part in the dance. Love it.

  • stylish and perfect performing , each & every movment and body language, face feelings EXCELENT

  • From what i've heard this kind of dancers enter an altered state of mind, kinda like religious ecstasy is this true?

  • @cosmothechihuahuadog It;'s possible, Bharatanatyam can involve all types of yoga including meditation. Sufi dancing is more of a transcendental ecstasy dance though.

  • @pushpanjali

excuse me Sufi.. please correct yourself..

  • @cosmothechihuahuadog No, that is not true! These are trained Bharata Natyam dancers. They perform according to the pre-fixed dance-steps and hand-gestures (mudras) and face expressions (bhavam). While 'bhavam' requires the performer to 'act', they do not do it in ecstasy. Infact, they need to concentrate and focus their mind and body to the lyrics and the rhythm (thaalam) to reflect the story they are portraying through the dance. Each of these dances will be based on some ancient story.

  • @kakukkari Exactly! When my friend had her arangetram I was absolutely amazed at the physical stamina and focus it took. It's different from other dance in that bhavam is an integral part; in other forms of dance you can get away with breathing through the mouth or heavily through the nose, not here!

  • very nice

  • The first song is natesha/nataraja/shiv kauthvam
