How could you think it's a penis? Artist said "seduction", which does not mean penis. Anything tall and cylindrical is not a penis. Radio man's agenda is to bring it down, saying the artists intention was to take the tax money and slap the tax payer in the face with a penis. If you think it is a penis you have a disgusting penis. Just because it's tactile does not mean it is a penis. As a public sculpture it has wonderful formal qualities of form, texture, color, line, volume, rhythm, shape.
Its great man! This thing is hilarious. Denver Public Art is kicking ass! I love the big blue Demon Horse at DIA, and I think that this Big Red Diseased Penis is great too!
Never even crossed my mind to compare it to "penis" until these radio comments! Even if you see phallic symbolism so what? Let me quote:
"Strong traditions of phallic art are evident throughout Egypt, Greece, India, and Northern Europe. A wide range of art, myths, and cultural customs have been central to phallic symbolism, dating at least as far back as the Neolithic era, about 8000 B.C."
Controversy is great for the artist. KHOW, keep it up! Let's just all be thankful that it's not another big blue horse with red eyes. Now that's lame!
It's great that Denver art is being discussed on the radio! John McEnroe is fabulous, and his work is always edgy, new and fun. Public art is often controversial, and I'm glad to see this piece is no exception. Yay for "National Velvet!"
These guys have no idea what they are talking about! Just like Hickenlooper said, smutty minds. The quote at the end describes these radio guys perfectly

I caught that too on Conan's show during his monologue. Denver's "National Velvet" is starting to get some national attention.

Ugly! Can't believe Denver paid $50K! Looks like a grouping of saggy titties piled to form an ugly penis.
