I think its already been said here in not so many words, but my guess is that Audi strayed away from turbo aspiration in the R8 because of poor heat management in the cramped engine compartment. If you could make it work without it turning into a big german s'more (i.e. burn to the ground), it would be much better than dropping a heavier engine in the back seat, but I think a V10 would be a better trade-off, weighting power delivery with reliability.
