I don't know about Grand Funk Railroad, or even Led Zeppelin. They sound more like they were influenced by Free, as were a lot of other upstart Southern Rock bands at the time, most notably Lynyrd Skynyrd.
@notfragile33 Oh I'm sure these guys were influenced by both Led Zeppelin and GFR. But the southern rock slant is definitely there, I mean after all, they WERE from Texas. I'm sure you've heard of Bloodrock, another Texas band that was kinda classified as "GFR's little brother."
@MattHatter To me, Bloodrock is more a cross between Deep Purple and Steppenwolf. They have the organ/guitar interplay like Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore. Plus, Bloodrock never liked the "little brother" tag they were given, just because they were on Capitol records and had their albums produced by Terry Knight and Ken Hamann. They thought of themselves as more progressive than that, they ended up influencing bands like Kansas
@notfragile33 I think you're right. This sounds a lot more like Free or James Gang than it does Zep. Kind of resembles Leaf Hound with a Texas accent.

These guys were heavily influenced by Grand Funk. I read they opened for GFR on some Texes shows back in the early 70's.
